  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) Let's try closer to $18 million. Choo is a terrible fit for the Sox right now. He's a platoon player at this point and he's a poor defender anywhere he plays in the outfield. Ellsbury is a different story. He's a plus defender, has a well rounded skill set, and is entering his age 30 season. If you gave him 6/$120, he'd probably return surplus value for at least the first 4 years of the contract, and he has the skill set that will age well so it could legitimately be for all 6. If the Sox are willing and able to spend and get their guys - we'll say Ellsbury (6/$120), Abreu (7/$70), and McCann (4/$60), which is also $45 million added to the payroll, give or take how they set up the contracts - you can look at a lineup of Ellsbury - CF Semien - 2B Abreu - 1B McCann - C Dunn - DH Garcia - RF De Aza - LF Ramirez - SS Gillaspie - 3B That team at least gives a shot. That's not what I'd do, but it's an option and that team can absolutely be competitive. I'd be all over that team, though I'd let Conor and Gordon duke it out in Spring Training, with the loser becoming a good utility player. I'd also resign Floyd and stick him in AAA as insurance. Look to trade one of Santiago or Danks and then go off to the races. Could a package of Dayan, Danks, and cash net the Sox something? Or would it have to be Viciedo and Santiago?

I missed the Blacklist this week. Anyone know where I can catch a rerun?
  3. Trade Danks somehow.
  4. This is the worst Congress ever.
  5. Mo is pretty damn awesome. Here's hoping he gets to play CF.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Thread revival. Kiley McDaniel's Top 50 2014 MLB Draft Prospects as of August 21st. Going to start my draft research/familiarization a few months earlier than usual. http://mlb.scout.com/2/1318151.html Kolek looks really intriguing.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 07:57 AM) wretched. lol unless of course you mean: a mechanical device that allows continuous linear or rotary motion in only one direction while preventing motion in the opposite direction. in that case, i dont understand Ratchet is a term to describe "disgusting"
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 06:35 AM) Also Lance Broadway. Good guy. He had a semi-important role in Olympus Has Fallen with Morgan Freeman, too. What the hell?
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 05:44 AM) How does Axe deserve an F? He is a minor league pitcher who earned four wins at the major league level. That's overachieving in my book. He was also Tank Commander.
  10. I don't know how I forgot Wassermann or Sergio. I was at the first game Sergio pitched in, had seats by the bullpen. I yelled good luck to him because I loved his story and he looked and nodded in response. You could tell he was nervous as hell. I was going to buy a Sergio shirt when the 2012 season started, but alas he was traded for a piece of s*** pitcher.
  11. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 03:33 AM) I don't think AJ was ever that blatant. I think Gomez & McCann both come off as assholes there. For real. That was stupid.
  12. TaylorStSox may be going just a little overboard.
  13. Ross Gload is a great pick. Gload, Iguchi, Beckham, Uribe
  14. I wouldn't be against resigning Floyd as a sixth starter.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) Apparently a lot of players wanted nicknames like Batman(Battier) and Flash(Wade) but due to copyright laws they cannot do it. Im kind of curious if King James will be on Lebrons jersey Sucks that Flash can't be on there since that's his best nickname. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) Knowing that choad, it will be. He just needs to keep quiet and winning games. I don't think people will forgive him for "The Decision". Oh god what if LeBron went with "The Decision" Even I'd have to applaud him for the balls that would take.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) I see the Royals as the little kid who gets picked on all the time. Why root against them? Their fans aren't even that annoying. The only thing that annoys me about their fans is now that they are sort of in the race, they are blaming Yost for everything. They aren't even blaming the Sox for ruining their season. Sox have played .500 vs. KC and lost 13 in a row vs. Cleveland. If they just win six of those games vs. Cleveland, the Royals are in happy heaven. Why hate KC, though? Their are harmless for the most part. The BBQ here is delicious; the steaks are very good as well and we have some delicious thin crust pizza in these parts. Cause they have spoiled the Sox season multiple times. We have to hear about their extended run of dominance that is coming anytime now. The food in KC doesn't matter. Seriously. Why bring that up?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 11:34 PM) Has only 1 of them aired? The previews looked great. Only one, but it was a damn good start.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) I enjoy spending the whole offseason hearing about how this is the year for KC and their stud young prospects, only to see them not make the playoffs for the 28th consecutive season. This.

Really excited for the rest of The Blacklist. Spader was perfect.
  20. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) As odd as it feels, martial law in Chicago makes sense. There's such an open disregard for the law that you could call it an insurrection that needs to be put down. Tell people they have 48 hours to leave then waste it. Two big problems: 1. THAT IS SO RACIST AHHHHHHHHH 2. You can't seriously trust the government to not abuse that precedent whenever possible to establish a police state You're absolutely crazy and it may be one of the funniest things I've ever seen. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) This will sound crazy, but one of the most shortsighted moves the government made was by dissolving the leadership of these gangs, especially where the violence is most concentrated, between the GD's and BD's. When these gangs had strong leadership, they were governed by their own codes, rules and standards. There were real repercussions to breaking these rules. Now, there's no leadership and no structure. At one time, these gangs were pretty tight run organizations. Lawmakers were naive in thinking they could eliminate gangs. The reality is that these are multigenerational organizations that the members identify with before anything else. The number of gangbangers has only increased and now, with no leadership, you're left rogues and renegades who have grown even more violent. It worked with the mafia, but honestly the mafia had nothing on these guys. The entire scale is completely different. Unfortunately, there is no short term solution to quell the violence. I'm sure as hell not smart enough to come up with one. Actually, I do know. It starts with legalizing drugs and robbing the gangs of their purpose, to secure areas to sell the drugs. Take away their funding. This is one of the more introspective looks into this that I've seen.

I'm digging The Blacklist so far.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) I knew somebody would say something about the Royals. I just want our bullpen to be better and I personally see a candidate for excellence in Santiago. If he's wild coming out of the pen like the other post suggested, then obviously that's a huge problem. Walks are killers. So if he has trouble getting ready on short notice, fine, I'm mistaken. I just want a GOOD BULLPEN and I thought Santiago was an in house candidate since we have a ton of starters and a ton of lefty starters. As far as prospects, I should change it to "young pitchers" so you won't get mad. I always thought a prospect was a young player. My definition differs from yours. Ok, fair enough on the prospects point, but then that makes Sale and Trout prospects. Prospect just basically means they aren't at the major league level yet other than maybe a cup of coffee here or there. Yeah, I made the Royals comment because they blew their #1 pick and he was a terrible starter for years. Much different than this unheralded guy who came up through the minors as a starter and excelled there before getting jerked around as long relief then closer then starter. Give him time to transition into a starter again.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) I'm not going by advanced stats, just the eye test, and want to say that I don't understand why many of you are so high on Santiago. I think Q is a much much much better starting pitching prospect. I'm sick of us trotting stiffs out there in the lefthanded relief role and why not just make Santiago an EFFECTIVE lefty reliever the rest of his career? The Royals switched on Hochevar and he helped that team a lot. Why don't we do that with Santiago. I believe Q has earned the starting slot but Hector could be a bullpen guy for years to come. If we are ever going to start contending again, we'll need some lefty relievers that can, uh, get people out. 1) NEITHER OF THEM ARE PROSPECTS. WHY DO YOU KEEP SAYING THIS. THEY ARE JUST AS MUCH PROSPECTS AS SALE IS. 2) Yes, let's model the Royals, quality franchise. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) Hector does not profile to be a good lefty reliever. First of all, he has a significantly higher walk rate as a reliever than as a starter. He has remarked that he simply struggles getting loose on short notice. Secondly, Hector's weakness is getting lefties out. As a reliever, we would be bringing him in against lefties. He has struggled to make his curveball into a usable pitch and this is what would make him a left-handed reliever. Beyond that, he's been successful as a starter. He's not super consistent and has some things to work on, but he is very talented and is just not a guy you give up on. He has top of the rotation potential. We see him get by with a fastball alone at at times; imagine if he starts to really utilize his offspeed arsenal as he gets more experience and a full season as a starter? And Luke Hochevar was a dreadful starter. He threw almost 700 innings in which his best season was a 4.68 ERA. He just wasn't very good and proved it over a very long time period. If we give Hector four seasons as a starter and he struggles to keep his ERA below 5, I'll be all for shoving him in the bullpen. Logic is wasted.
  24. I have hopes that the defense will improve. It's the offense I was unsure of and they're doing fine.
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) The run for first down where Cutler f***ed up the DB is the marquee play of the game IMO. Yup. I expected him to slide or run out as QBs are prone to do.
