  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) Cutler is becoming an absolute winner But Cutler is a loser bum.
  2. Brandon Marshall trade will forever look awesome.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) Hey look, a Henry Melton sighting!
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) Makes the post even better.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) I'd move Santiago to the bullpen. We could use a nasty lefty reliever for an inning or two. That would be a terrible, terrible move. I'd want to throw out in an ideal world a rotation of Sale - Q - Santiago - Johnson - Rienzo next year, but that means trading Danks which will be difficult. But one of Q/Danks/Santiago will be gone next year.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) I agree with greg here. Verlander, Miggy and Prince are 3 of the best in the world. It's totally loser thinking to sit back and wait for them to get worse in order for the sox to get better. Sounds like Bulls fans - "No, we're not really better, but Wade's knees are going to give out at some point. Then we've got 'em!!!" Lame. All those games where Leyland decided to let him go 120+ pitches may be catching up to him. I wouldn't be shocked to see him fall off like Zito did. Prince is just unhealthy and once he's out of his prime he'll be done. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 11:33 PM) Which means you don't even watch baseball. Verlander doesn't deserve to be in the playoff rotation and Prince is having the worst season of his career.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) I hate being negative ALL the time but I have to continue a bit longer ... how many years in a row did Atlanta make the playoffs? Detroit is going nowhere possibly for a long time. They are committed to spending lots of cash. Let's see if the Sox get that payroll back up there in an attempt to rebuild quickly thru free agency. I'm hoping but I also could see us pulling a Minnesota and going on the cheap. It's up to Jerry and how much he wants to see the Sox rally in his lifetime when his Bulls are looking pretty darn good. Verlander is declining and Fielder and Cabrera have about the least healthy frames possible. Those three combined are like what, $75M?
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 10:11 PM) PK's right about the cycle of life of an MLB team. And FWIW, I'd rather it be happening now when you consider what the tigers have built, a formidable team that will contend again next season. Sox don't have the talent or resources to go toe-to-toe with them right now. And hopefully we'll be ready to go once they start their expensive decline.
  9. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) I've tried buying toys like that from the fun stores in Indiana. They won't sell it to you if you're from Illinois, even with a FOID. You could try Armslist I guess, I don't know if those guys are willing to risk having it come back on them either. Its not as simple as just saying "Hey Mr. Indiana, 4 ASSAULT STYLE KILLRIFLES, a box of bombs and 7 BANANACLIPS with 2000 rounds of your best BABYSEEKING AMMO, please. Oh, and some cheap smokes." You have to first get your hands on the weapon, which isn't easy because they are expensive things that people are usually very protective of, then you have to break a whole heapin' helpin' of laws. But yea, I guess if you're a murderer you don't really care about breaking laws, which makes me wonder what good banning guns would do. Except Chicago effectively has a gun ban. And people get shot everyday. So we already know, it doesn't work banning guns. Even if you try to blame it on Indiana. Because when you can only ban guns in one area, you can't cut off guns coming from outside.
  10. The L is pretty awesome and if they did away with it, then traffic would be a nightmare.
  11. If you Abreu and McCann, Dunn gets better pitches. So do Avi and Dayan. Those 5 combined provide massive power. Enough that you can probably live with Gordon, Alexei, Semien, and ADA.
  12. This is the greatest free speech case ever.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 19, 2013 -> 10:36 PM) If it was up to you, we'd have a $275m payroll of 35 year olds. All WS vets to. No losing bums.
  14. Do I start Bennett or Witten?
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) The whole problem is acting like the state of Illinois is the entity to do this. State governments are f***ing stupid in the 21st century and work much worse than federal governments. They consistently f*** up every responsibility that they have, while nobody knows why they have those responsibilities (education standards, healthcare) instead of other entities (local governments? federal government?). Their means of collecting the money to fix these things are meager and without fail are regressive and harmful to the lower earners of the states. We have a high amount of agreement in the USA that progressive taxation is a good and fair thing while the norm in state governance is a flat tax. There's no way I want state governments running new mental health services when they can't do anything already. No state governments are working well. We need to reduce the responsibilities given to them, not increase them. +1
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) Awesome solution, instead we should just let them roam the streets. Also, define mentally ill...I'm not talking about a person suffering temporary emotional issues...I'm talking about people like this guy, who heard f***ing voices in his head, and had repeated serious mental issues in the past. There's a big difference. Meanwhile you have people like me that have the same f***ing problem and are actively seeking help and not going to buy a gun. Anyone that owns a gun right now is more dangerous than me and I'm supposed to be locked up? f*** that.

    The TV shows you can watch are f***ing hilarious.
  18. I'm not gonna read the thread, I got to page 2 and all I can say is... f*** anyone who says you should lock up the mentally ill.
  19. On trading for Gomez: Depends what we get for Viciedo or De Aza. But, I'd be ok with letting Hector go in such a deal, especially if we get a high pick that can let us get another good LHP in the pipeline.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 15, 2013 -> 06:31 PM) I fear that my vision would continue to get worse. Not sure if that is legitimate concern or not. What's the point of correcting my vision from -4.0 to perfect in both eyes if I'll gradually just start working back up to -.50, -1.0, etc? Your eyes should be done changing at that point. When my doctor recommended it to me, it was because my eyes are no longer changing over a long period of time.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 11:31 PM) Faced the minimum and threw 97 pitches. That trade and the eventual extension of rizzo, if Cashner stays healthy could look really bad for Theo. ...but Theo is god!
  22. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) I think a better question would be, what does Spoelstra do? Coach.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 09:06 AM) Sort of. First of all, the farm system has been better than most in baseball at producing pitchers, in recent years. That doesn't play into the current narrative about the system, but people are starting to realize it now. Second, the system has been nearly devoid of producing serviceable position players in the past 5 or 7 years. However, there are a few signs of life now, with a few infielders worth keeping an eye on. We'll see if they turn out to be anything or not. I personally think Semien is a starting major leaguer, and have for a while now. Micah Johnson is intriguing. There are others more raw as well. Third and finally, the team has not only changed its draft philosophy in recent years, but they have made dramatic improvements in LatAm after that section of org being decimated post-Wilder. Basically, the farm system still lacks depth, particularly in position players... but your characterization of it being something the same as always, "sucks", is inaccurate. There's real improvement already underway, but you won't see the fruits of that right away. Hopefully the Sox build a bigger reputation of developing pitchers and they get more and more picks. Remember the vaunted Braves pitching prospects? Delgado, Teheran, and Beachy are all good but Sale is the best of the bunch and Quintana and Santiago aren't far behind. Sometimes the unheralded prospects can be just as productive. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 10:27 AM) All tools are useless in the hands of those who have no clue how to use them. Deep and profound philosophy on SoxTalk.
  24. Should I start Bennett over Witten or have him over Montee Ball at flex?
