Time To Change The Business Model
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) They are in job preservation mode. Get to 90 wins and call this season a success. Actually guys like Jenks and AJ are in job preservation mode. Kenny's got some decisions to make on veterans. Why not let them play the season out. The kids will still be around if Kenny doesn't trade them.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) I honestly hope JR grows some balls for once and steps in. I don't think Ozzie will listen to Kenny. That is ridiculous. Whats he trying to prove? Pretty much everyone mins the WC teams will clinch so he doesn't have the "pride" excuse anymore. What he wants his managing record to look good this year? It's really pathetic. What makes you think Kenny disagrees with that? Maybe certain veteran players will finish better and make for some trade bait. Like Linebrink or Teahan.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) He did the same thing in 07 trotting Pods out there over kids. Maybe he wants to protect the kids from choking baseball the Sox have put on of late. Plus keep playing the guys that started may further help in personnel decisions for next season. The kids are going to be there for awhile unless Kenny trades them away.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) vs Twins since Ozzie took over: 04 9-10 05 11-7 06 9-10 07 9-9 08 8-10 09 6-12 10 5-12 The last two years have been awful, but before that it's been more about timing than the final record. They own us in September. Go to the turn of the century it's no different. Manager has nothing to do with it. 03 9-10 02 8-11 01 5-14 00 7-5 If you want to go back before that the only time the Sox got the better of the Twins was when the Sox had losing records.

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) I am getting so tired of the Twins kicking our ass year in and year out. I know everyone agrees, but I just had to say it. Every f***ing year. I have no problem with it as long as if the Sox were to have a comfortable 1st place lead. It not impossible to have a losing record to a divisional team and still win the division. They just need to win as many games possible for the Twins to be a non factor. With the exception of 2005 they fail in this consistently.

Is this going to be another 9-3 beat down in a row. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) Duensing should be up for Cy Young votes based on his amazing contributions this season (not really, but it's hard to argue with his productivity). Something they were talking about on the radio the other day is how the Twins are going to be a hot spot for FA pitchers, as everyone would love to pitch half their games in that cavernous park. I still think players follow the money. I can't see any pitcher wanting to be there in April and parts of May. I think a lot of players will miss that dome when it's Oct.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) I am of the opinion that locating and aquiring every member of the 1990's Cleveland Indians for their farewell tour isn't a great way to build a consistant winner. Also picking up your random sox killer is a bad idea when they suck against everyone else. Giving long term extensions to medicore players is bad. If you want to keep Ozzie fine. Just ozzie proof the lineup. No crappy left handed hitters that Ozzie can over expose. Then hire an experienced bench coach that can call Ozzie's BS. Then for the love of god don't listen to the man on personnel decisions. He is in some sort of alternate universe where we are in the National League and we are the florida marlins. Teahan is still a Sox killer. Tori Hunter will be the next guy Kenny get's because he always wanted him..say in 5 years. This team got older with the recent off season acquisitions. I thought this team back then would closer to losing 90 than winning 90. Kenny built this team not Ozzie. Above Kenny is JR who can say no when shelling out money. I woudl have to say the biggest surprise of the season is how well Omar is playing at his age.

QUOTE (Real @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) I'm predicting a Tigers/Twins tandem at the top of the division at the end of 2011. Sox will be a 3rd place team. Will be decent, maybe 87 or 88 wins, but the Tigers and Twins are way beyond us looking forward. I think the Tigers are always good at underachievement.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) Adjusting to the NL didn't cause Peavy to throw 89 mph fastballs and flat sliders. So.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) Just looking at the Twins lineup, if Morneau can return healthy next season, there's no reason they cannot win 95-100 games again. Just absurd depth throughout with a few superstars around them. There pitching needs to improve along with it. They've got some money now for next season. A good farm and a few bucks will make them tough to beat. I still think they will be one and done if their first opponent is the Yankees.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Well scoring only 92 runs in April might of had a slight hand in some of our losses. Yep, but pitching and D was bad. The pen was the only group that showed up. I'm beginning to believe getting guys from the NL will not improve an AL team overnight. They have to make a big adjustment to facing pitchers they're not familiar with. A NL pitcher like Peavy is not use to facing a league where one division will have more hitters than the entire NL. While Jackson blows that theory, Hudson looks really good pitching in the NL. Maybe Kenny should stay away from getting NL players and the Royals.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) I love the fact he led us to the WS title, but he's done nothing this season to deserve the axe. Nothing. Shhh...you sound rational. It's all Ozzie's fault. Repeat 3 times. (It's all Ozzie's fault.) (It's all Ozzie's fault.) (It's all Ozzie's fault.) Then repeat 5 times... (It's all Kotsay's fault.) (It's all Kotsay's fault.) (It's all Kotsay's fault.) (It's all Kotsay's fault.) (It's all Kotsay's fault.) Then you'll start to fit in.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) And yet we had our surge in June and July, two of the hottest months when the park played smallest and we hit a lot of homers. The offensive numbers, overall, aren't terrible at all, and probably better than most of us predicted. It has been the bullpen and more recently again the starting pitching that has really been the reason for our downfall...along with a tougher schedule and the fact that the Twins have been playing out of their minds without Morneau for the second year in a row down the final stretch. Do tell. Some are blind to this while hugging their favorite scapegoats.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) The team was built poorly. They were built on the idea that we could recreate the 2005 pitching staff and be lights out and win 3-2 games all year long. This is not the NL. We play in the American League and in a stadium that plays like a bandbox in the summer. We took a valuable position and put two bench players and made it into a mess. Its the typical Ozzie formula, take a crappy player that should be the last man on the bench and overuse him. The first two months when we had a horrible horrible offense might of been mitigated a bit if we say actually had 9 hitters up there instead of 8 and a pitcher. Nice try. The pitching sucked. When that sucks along with defense (2 years in a row, starting 3rd baseman loses job)nothing can overcome that. Next.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) Yeah, the Tigers were chased down both times by the Twins, but I was talking about the 2008 and 2009 seasons specifically. The weird thing is that most Tigers fans consider the White Sox to be their biggest rivalry, and yet the Twins have been the much better club. Probably because the Sox have owned them from time to time.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) You don't know that. If we got off to a better start this year, especially offensively. we would have had a lot more breathing room. Don't forget Kotsay's horrible ability to hit with RISP and the rally killing that resulted. Wrong again. Next.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) The last two years, of all the teams leading their divisions at the All-Star break, I think it was only the Tigers in 2009 and the D-Backs in 2008 who didn't make the playoffs (10/12 teams eventually made it or at least got the Wild Card). Add the White Sox to the casualty list. Weren't the Tigers leading also in 2006?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) Well Ozzie was the one who wanted to play NL style in his personal 2003 wayback machine. Too bad we play in the AL and have a position called Designated Hitter that he decided to put a few bench players in. But hey, our players are well rested for October tee time. You can't blame the season on lack of a DH. This team was built on pitching and has been the most disappointing group. There's no DH on the planet that can over come that.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) Not the worst season ever, but one of the most disappointing and frustrating...in recent years anyway. I don't know why. Preseason predictions had this team finishing 3rd or 4th.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) He's not bad at all. It just seems like he's hit his ceiling. But the problem is it seems as if he wants to get paid like a #1 or #2. He's not even a top 5 left-handed, let a lone top 15-20 or so pitcher overall, in baseball. and keep from doing Javy Vasquez impressions when facing the Twins..more big game instead of big lame

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) I would disagree. Why the f*** would we fire Ozzie over this? Because people think this is the worst season ever and it's all Ozzie and Kotsay's fault.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) That Sox righty hitters have one hit to left field all day, and that if you keep trying to pull the ball vs Duensing, you're going to have no chance. That's been going on forever. There must be a sign somewhere at the Cell that says"I dare ya to try to pull it out of here. I dare ya".
