QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Pena's ERA going to be over 5.50 after this inning. Can't wait until he's out of this organization, and we get an actual long man. I wouldn't be too sure. The organization really believes in this guy. I wanted him gone last year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Thanks for destroying any motivation the fans have for coming out the rest of the season. Well, the Yankees and Red Sox fans can at least give us some additional revenue for our payroll, that's about the extent of it. We've seen this before and it wasn't under the same manager.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) That's your argument for why Thome wouldn't help this team. Yes. Get over it.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Cross Pena off the list for next year too. He's nothing but DJ Carraso with better stuff. Sure, he's had 2-3 nice outings when he went long and saved us, but he hasn't done us any favors recently. I'm actually thinking we would be better off with Brandon Allen fo 2011. I never understood the Pena envy. He was involved in last year's string of losses in clutch time.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) is there someone that isnt falling apart in our pen? jeeze lol Maybe Linebrink? Only if he gives up 2 runs. Where's the fire Coops thread?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) No, his forte was the 3 run home run that wins games 4-2. Like...for the Twins today. Yawn. Nice try.
-
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Ozzie has to learn Alexei can't always get the job done. I really hate giving up outs. He probably has the worst plate discipline on the team.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Now, the better question is can we get a clutch hit in the 8th or 9th inning? Hasn't been our strength the last 10 days. Wasn't that our beloved Thome's forte? Oh wait....it wasn't.
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) No its that you can't just pitch Thornton every f***ing inning of every game. Hell, he's been shaky lately anyway. You put wayyyy too much on Ozzie rather than players playing like s***. Oh please don't induce any logic into this.
-
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) I know I said earlier in this thread that I don't think Putz should pitch back to back games anymore. After further evaluation, I think we should shut him down until the end of the regular season. If he doesn't get the necessary rest to get his arm strength back, he's no good to us in the playoffs. This is the only reply I can think of.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) yea so he cant hit now he cant field? and then you have people like cowley, for example, that said oh, how can we get dunn, etc because what would you do with guys like jones and kotsay, right.......this is depressing I would take that as Jone and Kotsay are hard to dump on other teams.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Wow, that was pathetic by Jones. More BRUTAL managing by Ozzie! Seriously, where the heck is Thornton. How about just let Thornton be the 1 man pen. You can't blame Ozzie when most of your pen sucks. I fear the day when Thornton's arm falls off because the pen sucks. Putz is now the new Linebrink. August, Sept. is the worst time for your pen to fail.
-
Nice throw by Castro.
-
QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) Sorry, dozed off between Putz pitches. What's happened? That could be part of his problem.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Doesn't mean he should ever be allowed to face LHP Sometimes it's unavoidable.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) You're making your case based on ESPN the Magazine articles? I think that means I win. Is that a corrollary to Godwin's law...the probability of ESPN commentary being used in a sports argument goes to 1 with increasing time and the first one to use it loses? That should be a sticky. Well done.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) Generous strike 3! BTW, Kotsay is now 0-21 against LHP. Hit safely in 7 games before that.
-
I hope Putz isn't the new Linebrink.
-
Do you think Tiger fans go thru the same thing when they play the Sox as we do when the Sox play the Twins. Like no lead is save enough,
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Frank Thomas says hello. I'd love to see Frank in his prime again.
-
This is getting nerve wrecking. Next we will want our starters to go all 9.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Thome just hit a 3 run home run off of a LHP, Who cares? PK just hit a game leading 2 run hr.
-
QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Do you think he has a shot of actually getting it??? No but who cares? He's been really good at SS and that's good enough for me.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) The guy struggles to make it through 5 innings these days. He will singlehandedly kill our pen. It gives them a chance to use Linebrink. Who cares about wasting him?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) No reason to bring Kerry Wood into the discussion. Sale's Mechanics are somewhat iffy, but you can put him up against Strasburg and say that Sale's mechanics are better in some ways. Check out his AAP page for a legit discussion. Basically...it's up in the air. Cooper's usually good at keeping his pitchers healthy compared to everyone else in the league. He might have injury problems, but it's not an absolute. He might need to bulk up some so that frame can take some stress of the arm. This was Kenny's worries when they had McCarthy.
