Wow relievers were a hot commodity once again. Capps for Wilson Ramos/Joe Testa Dotel for James McDonald/Andrew Lambo Lopez for John Bowker/Joe Martinez It seems like we could've traded a bullpen arm? What would Putz or even Santos land, if Dotel netted Lambo/McDonald? Not saying I wanted the Sox to be sellers, but if you see certain markets heating up; act on them. Those prospects could've been packaged for a bigger move. oh and can someone say no to the Yankees. Yankees: Hey Cleveland were taking Kearns and Wood for a while Indians: Ok are you putting up anything? Yankees: EH....will let you know later. We've gotta go to Houston and take their best hitter and some of their money.

Anyone think Werth could clear waivers after Victorino comes back off the DL and Brown shows he can contribute? I think Werth could be a decent pickup. Everytime I check the box score for Philly Werth usually has 2-3 hits every game along with 1-3 RBIs. He could be our RF and Quentin can move exclusively to DH.

Just came back from the game. Tough loss, but our offense was either having bad luck or Braden was that dominant. Maybe a bit of both. Fireworks @ the end of the game were something special. I do want to say, when did half of our fan base become like Cubs fans?; half the people at the game today weren't even paying attention to the game, crowding the concourse drinking and talking, or on their phones f**king tweeting or whatever. This was before Danks gave up 4 in the 2nd. It seemed like me and my girlfriend had to get up to let someone through every 2 minutes. I really hate to gripe about this on a fan site, because I trust no one here is like that. But goddamn has anyone else experienced this? Maybe its ok since they're money is green too, but it felt like a huge beer garden. It felt like Wrigley. I propose a section devoted to the A.D.D, faux-hawk sportin', Nick Swisher jersey wearin', PBR swillin', constantly on their IPhones; so as to not disturb the people who are trying to watch a ball game.

Let's just go back to AZ and say" listen we threw you a huge bone with Hudson, What's it gonna take to get LaRoche""and don't you dare say Viciedo/Beckham/Flowers/Morel". A couple of mid level arms: Torres+Cassell.

If the Rays are linked to all these guys were trying to trade for. How about facilitating a three team deal that would net us Carlos Pena?

QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) Furthermore, even if the Sox had acquired Jackson to use him for a Dunn deal, that makes no sense for the Sox. That leaves us with a severe lack of pitching depth. Don't give me that bs argument that we can skip the 5th spot much of the rest of the season. The problem is two fold. First, our good starters could use an extra day off to stay well rested. Second, and more importantly, if for some horrible reason we had another pitching injury then you can toss out all odds of making the playoffs. Our 4th starter would be Carlos Torres in that scenario. Yikes. I just don't get this deal. Aside from the points i just mentioned why it would be asinine to move Jackson for Dunn, say the Sox ended up doing that. Hudson, Holmberg, and a prospect for Dunn is not a good deal in my opinion. Doesn't Dunn (as of right now) equate to just under a type A free agent. I think his currently ranking is a high type b. If Rizzo was asking for Hudson+Viciedo for Dunn and we traded Jackson for Dunn straight up. We would essentially have traded Hudson+Holmberg for Dunn and that's a successful move. Problem is Rizzo is trying to leverage his position by continuing to ask for more, but there has to be some interest because I can't see KW playing to a GMs hand like that. Unless there was an agreement and Rizzo reneged on it, in which case KW should rightfully kick his teeth in.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) Why does everyone consider Hudson "our most valuable" to every team? How do you know what every other team considers valuable? How do you know that there's not a team that doesn't covet a young power bat like Viciedo who's mashing in the bigs to all fields like a veteran at 21 over Hudson who crapped his pants in the bigs at 23? Tonight Lucas freaking Harrell just showed twice the sac on the mound that Hudson ever has. Are you kidding me? Do you not remember his meteoric rise through the system last year. He still had residual buzz this year even though he wasn't dominating the minors like he did in previous years. He was our most valuable trade chip a good young SP and we got bamboozled into wasting him, along with another decent prospect, for some fly-by-night promise(Dunn) from a ridiculous GM(Rizzo). I've said this many times on this board, the acquisition of Jackson doesn't bother me. He could've been had for way less than Hudson. Hell you throw a couple more prospects and KW could've rivaled offers from Haren/Oswalt. Absolutely got fleeced.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Seriously guys? This is the worst trade KW has ever made? This has been a terrible deadline? I've seen several people mention it so far. Um, this guy has way better stuff than Hudson does, is still relatively young, has experience pitching in the AL Central, has experience being in a pennant race, and is under control for another year for decent money. Now I know what people mean when they say the Sox have overvalued Hudson. The way I think of him is the way people thought of Jeff Bajanaru. Yes trading a SP who's under team control for 6 more years for a SP who's marginally better, cost 10x more, and is only under team control for another year; qualifies as a sh**ty move. More so than the Swisher trades. In the 1st Swisher trade no prospect came close to Hudson's value now(losing Sweeney sucked but we didn't completely overpay); the 2nd trade, we did get screwed return-wise, but at least we were dumping Swisher's increasing salary that helped us re-sign Floyd, trade for Peavy, and acquire Rios. In this trade we took on ~$10M in salary for a minimal upgrade. And please don't give me the "he's young" talk, he's under team control for another year and guess who is agent is....Boras. Don't talk about how someone is a great young project when they're paid like a proven veteran.

This is a terrible trade for the White Sox, maybe one of Kenny's worst. I have all the faith in KW and there have been numerous times where we've all been proven wrong and I pray this is one of those times. But on face value we traded our best pitching prospect, who was filling in nicely as the #5 but had the ceiling of mid-rotation, who was under team control cheap for 5+ years for a mid-rotation type who's under control for one more year after 2010 and who's contract will balloon to $8.35 M next year. Not to mention we also kicked in another decent(LHSP? I thought we were low on those) prospect in Holmberg. Nothing against Jackson, he's got potential, but you don't trade Hudson for him. The only way to rectify this is if we make an even swap of EJ for Dunn. No other prospects included; i f**king mean it not even a Josh Kroeger type. No Viciedo. No Flowers. No Morel. Just EJ for Dunn. That way it works out as Hudson/Holmberg for Dunn. But even then were left with a hole in the back of the rotation

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:07 AM) If you really are reading everything I post, then you would see I put Morel and Hudson on the same level of "keep them if you can". Obviously since Hudson is the one everyone covets, then the next best thing would be to protect Morel if you can. I agree, there's something about Morel that screams he can contribute on a major league level. I've had the privilege of watching him play a couple of times and it seemed like his bat always made contact with ball, he adjusts well to pitchers, and his defense is great. I don't think he'll be an All-Star, but he does have that "i really hate using the word grindiness but I can't articulate it better" that could benefit our club.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:02 AM) Exactly. But looking ahead to 2011, wow. Peavy (hopefully healthy), Danks, Floyd, Jackson, Buehrle with Hudson/Sale waiting in the wings. Me likes. If it goes down like that one of those starters not named Danks/Hudson/Sale are getting traded before the 2011 season. Peavy/Buehrle/Danks/Floyd/Jackson is overkill for a starting rotation, especially considering Hudson/Sale could contribute for far less.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:52 AM) Source says the second prospect is another pitcher. I bet it's Torres since he was pulled after 75 pitches tonight. http://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/19890599061 sh*t flavored icing with your sh*t cake? sure why not.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:33 AM) It's up on FoxSports. Sox on the verge of landing Jackson This is going to be such a dumb move if Hudson's involved. I'm not against trading for EJ, since I said SP can always be used as offseason tradebait. But for crying out loud, Oswalt went to the Phillies for Happ/Gose?/Villar? and Houston kicked in $11 M. Kenny, be smart don't be a retard.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) There's no possible way we got both Jackson and Dunn. They want Hudson and more. If we move Hudson for Jackson, then what? I was running on the possibility it wouldn't take Hudson to get EJ. Then using Hudson/+ another prospect to get Dunn. Hudson for EJ ,straight, is a bad trade for us. Hudson has the same ceiling as EJ, and is under team control for longer and cheaper. Hudson could be used to reel in someone bigger than EJ
-
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:06 AM) If you can add him without sending Hudson, you can swing Hudson for a nice bat. I dont really understand Jackson as a target though. Thats a pricey rotation. I'm all for it as long as it doesn't involve Hudson. I'm also not so sure it has to. AZ could use bullpen help. I'd love it if they could acquire EJ and then dangle Hudson for a big bat. My 1st choice would be Werth. But what if KW really stuck it to Rizzo and acquired Dunn and Jackson? And to those saying he'll be expensive next year, who's to assume he won't get traded in the offseason. After teams overpay/lose out to free agency they'll frantically look into trading for a reasonably priced SP. It'll only benefit the White Sox, but only if Hudson isn't included. Since, IMO, Hudson has more value than EJ. Edwin Jackson and Jayson Werth to the South Side by Saturday, I've got my fingers crossed.

If the Rosenthal tweets were true about the Sox after a mid-rotation guy. Brett Cecil from the Blue Jays fits the bill 8-5 W-L 3.89 ERA 74 K 31 BB 1.17 WHIP would be a really decent under the radar pick-up. As for the Orioles, Luke Scott maybe Jeremy Guthrie.
-
I'm going to be so upset if we trade Flowers/Danks/or even Morel for 2 months of Lilly who is going to get abused in our park. A couple mid level prospects, fine, we chalk it up to a secondary move that had to be made in order to get Dunn. If we lose 2-3 of our top prospects in one fell swoop, for a couple rentals, we're going to be looking at Brandon Short, Christian Marrero, Nick Cioli as some of our top prospects.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) So in the last year the Phillies have been able to trade for Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay and it looks like Roy Oswalt all while not sacrificing anything from the major league team and holding on to their #1 prospect in Dominic Brown. Yeah, farm system depth is really overrated. In 2009, Carlos Carrasco, Michael Taylor,Jason Donald, Kyle Drabek, Lou Marson, and JA Happ(who'll presumably be going to HOU for Oswalt) were all ranked higher than Domonic Brown and then sent away for Lee/Halladay. I understand your point of how deep Philadelphia's farm is, but to suggest they orchestrated these great deals while retaining their best prospect(Brown) isn't exactly true. The Phillies have paid a great deal, for what'll be one of the best one-two in the NL of Halladay/Oswalt. What if they could've retained Lee too? Unbelieveable. Halladay-Lee-Oswalt. And to the poster suggesting we could trade for Werth and Happ. Happ is most definitely going to HOU and I can't see them trading Werth while Victorino is out.

In defense for Washington if anyone's been around the DC/Baltimore area you're aware how bad their rats/mice problem is. They're literally everywhere. Not saying its alright to have their droppings in your food though. Good to see Chicago doing what they should do. Actually my best service experience(food/drink wise) at a sporting event was at the Scottrade Center for a Blues/Hawks game. We bought club level tickets and wasn't aware that all club level seats are entitled to all-you-can-eat/drink. The food was well prepared and the beer was ice cold. Twice as good because it was free. I strongly recommend catching a Hawks road game while they're in St. Louis. I just wish the United Center would adopt the same practice. -

Victorino on the DL with an oblique injury, Domonic Brown has been called up. I think it pretty much seals it that they're keeping Werth. It's a shame would've been a great mid-season pickup.
