  1. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) So the As get Jarrod Parker and Collin Cowgill (plus Ryan Cook) for Trevor Cahill and Craig Breslow. Cowgill and Parker would have been nice pieces for us to get for Danks. But I guess that wasn't possible. I posted this trade a few days ago in a different thread: "Floyd and Thornton + $2M for Jarrod Parker, Adam Eaton, and Ryan Wheeler." I hope this means the A's are holding onto Gio.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) What about Milwaukee, then? If they lose Fielder, they could definitely use Konerko.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Your guess? Or do you know something? I have a buddy who sells tickets for the Rangers, but it's pure speculation. I texted him this morning going to work after I heard about Pujols signing. He just texted me "Our phones haven't stopped ringing!" Albert to the Angels was crazy. But Wilson to the Angels as well; really stings the Rangers. I wouldn't doubt if Danks is traded there and maybe Konerko, if they miss out on Fielder.
  4. Danks and Konerko will be traded to the Rangers.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Man Kenny, I liked you a lot more when it was 2006. He still can't alienate large portions of his fan base by outwardly proclaiming re-building. Even though that's what he's obviously doing. This is classic marketing PR fodder- don't acknowledge you're s***ting on your product, even if you're s***ting on your product.
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) Because they owe him good money and if his offensive WAR is more productive then his negative defensive WAR because he can not DH, you have to live with it. Totally agree. But to consider him for the OF is quite a crude joke to all parties involved. Although, I do think him playing 1B will allow him to step into a more NL rhythm of game. This however would require a Konerko trade.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Johnson, Wilson, Buehrle is a helluva 1-2-3. The greatest rotation never seen.
  8. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) GordonEdes Red sox disappointed that Santos wasn't shopped to them b4 White Sox sent him to Tor. Way to go Kenny-that's how you trade. Only talk to one team and pull the trigger. Kenny your time is way up. We need someone with a change of philosophy on trading. For the past 2 years, the Sox haven't come out ahead on any of Kenny's decisions: Rios waiver, Dunn, Teahen trade/contract, Peavy, Rushing Beckham, Swisher both trades, Ohman-2 year deal, and list goes on. I know it's not going to happen, but Jerry FIRE KENNY WILLIAMS. Really dissappointed we couldn't get Jed Lowrie, Josh Reddick or Lars Anderson, or any other overblown Red Sox prospect. The Santos trade was great. No, we didn't fleece anyone, but both teams got value. It's a good trade on both sides.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) The Diamondbacks are willing to trade prospects. Good trade partners for the White Sox? Maybe they'll send some of their prospects for Danks, Floyd or Thornton. Floyd and Thornton + $2M for Jarrod Parker, Adam Eaton, and Ryan Wheeler. Danks for Yasmani Grandal and Homer Bailey. Konerko + $8M for Paul Goldschmidt, Clay Zavada, and Keon Broxton Dunn to 1B Quentin to DH Rios to RF De Aza to CF Viciedo to LF Goldschmidt backs up Dunn Flowers and Grandal duke it out for backup C Bailey's our new 3 Zavada maybe helps out in garbage innings. The rest go to the farm, until you get hot for a bit and then we trade you. We can't develop players. Thank god were starting to realize this and trading at peak value, like the Santos trade.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) I can't see Pittsburgh taking a player of Konerko's age and contract. I vaguely recall reading early reports the Pirates were interested in perhaps making a surprise signing during FA. I figured maybe with the prospect of Fielder and Pujols changing teams, the Pirates would see an opening in their division. I also sincerely think someone like Konerko could help their club tremendously. Plus they have a lot of intriguing talent. I think a smart move for Kenny would be to trade Konerko this offseason and move Dunn back to 1B. Konerko has a ton of value and we can get teams that missed out to Fielder/Pujols to overpay. Dunn would benefit as well, since he wouldn't sulk on the bench after a horrendous at-bat. He could field. He could forget.
  11. Thought I'd give this offseason a shot... Gavin Floyd and Matt Thornton to CIN for Homer Bailey(SP) and Yonder Alonso(1B) John Danks to TEX for Derek Holland(SP) and Erik Morrison(2B) Paul Konerko to PIT for Garrett Jones(1B/RF) and Rudy Owens(SP) CF Alejandro De Aza SS Alexei Ramirez DH Carlos Quentin 1B Adam Dunn RF Alex Rios 2B Gordon Beckham C AJ Pierzynski LF Dayan Viciedo 3B Brent Morel Bench: Flowers, Alonso, Jones, Lillibridge Jake Peavy Derek Holland Homer Bailey Chris Sale Phil Humber Rudy Owens Zach Stewart Donnie Veal Dylan Axelrod Will Ohman Jason Frasor Jesse Crain Addison Reed Sergio Santos
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 25, 2011 -> 12:31 AM) I don't get the Alonso love unless we deal Paulie...that's the only way this makes sense Which would be a the next logical move, in that scenario? And not as difficult as it seems... Even though he still has 15.5M owed over two years, Konerko has performed at near MVP levels in two straight years. Ozzie's Marlins would trade for him if they miss out on Pujols, Giants, Nationals, Cardinals, Brewers. This offseason we'll see teams vying for Pujols and Fielder and many will miss out. Now's the time, more than ever, to trade Konerko Paulie almost was traded this year to Arizona. It would be an unpopular move. But if they're serious about re-building. Danks for Yonder Alonso , and Konerko for prospects. Makes a good bit of sense, at least financially. Edit: Remember when we traded for Konerko he was a Red, we could have some luck with former Reds 1B types (Dunn and Alonso).
  13. In the case of trading Adam Dunn, I don't know if KW finds the modesty (or more importantly willing trade partners) to trade a free agent he signed just a year ago. That's an incredible amount of pride to swallow for a gutsy, aggressive GM like KW. IMO I think Dunn starts to turn it around in 2012 and 2011 will just be an anomaly in his career. Rios is the one that should be moved. And I think he'd be easier to move than Dunn. I was pondering a Chone Figgins for Alex Rios swap. Figgins has $26MM left on his contract (12:$9, 13:$8, 14:$9-vesting option) Rios has $37MM left on his contract (12:$12, 13:$12.5, 14:$12.5) Maybe a straight swap could work since Rios has performed better than Figgins lately, but I wouldn't care if a low A prospect is coupled with Alex to make the trade palatable. Figgins starts at 3rd, De Aza takes CF, and Morel spends time developing in AAA.
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) Speaking of this...not a fan of trading Lexi but you could probably rape the DBags farm since Drew fractured right ankle tonight. We could buy our old farm back.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 08:10 AM) Ugh. It's not about Ozzie having a personality or being sometimes a little too colorful. It's about his son making private matters public and jeopardizing the integrity of the clubhouse and the organization. this all sounds like Ozzie/Oney are kind of like George/Lenny from Of Mice and Men. I think we all know what's in store: Oney's gonna tend the rabbits.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) The only way this could happen is on a one year deal. My thoughts exactly. Hard to believe this is a ploy to drum up interest/contract dollars for Soriano, since everybody knows the White Sox are about tapped financially. If that were the case they could've named numerous other "mystery teams" that one might find believable, as far as signing Soriano. I think Boras/Soriano have found that the market for his closer has become underwhelming, in terms of both years/money. The best closing job available is with the White Sox; behind solid SU w/ Thornton, Crain, Sale, Santos. And Boras/Soriano know this.
  17. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) I find the last comment surprising. They've been more athletic recently, but the traditional type of team usually associated with Oakland (under Beane) is probably the most boring team to watch I could imagine. Yea, sometimes they can be a bit brutal. But I enjoy watching the Athletics. I think my affinity for Oakland stems from parallels I see with the White Sox. Both teams play a second fiddle to a a more "popular" crosstown team (Giants, Cubs) Both teams I feel employ a sort of blue collar work ethic, which is reflective in their overall brand and advertisements. I also feel Beane and KW share similar GM philosophies.
  18. Wow Billy Beane is absolutely enamored with OBP. Between DeJesus/Barton/Willingham they should have an overall OBP pushing 400! OBP is great, but when you're relying on Matsui as your main power source. I'm afraid all that hard work has gone to waste. If they only had a legit slugging threat... Regardless Im always happy to see Oakland do well, their teams/players are always fun to watch.
  19. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:23 AM) Has Arthur Rhodes signed anyhwere yet? I wonder what he would cost? But I'd be OK breaking in a youngster in that role too. Santos/Sale could be really great as LH/RH setup tandem, but I think that might be limiting them a bit. Both of them have the stuff to be dominant. Sale especially has a tremendous ceiling. Therefore picking up another LHRP,that only comes up for one or two guys, is beneficial to the growth of our younger arms. Rhodes is another great name, though I'd think he'd be paid a little bit more than Beimel/Byrdak. Anyone as long as the money is ~$1.5M or under–we don't need to have the best candidate since this is such a limited role.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) LR Minor Leaguer MR Pena MR Santos SU Sale SU Crain CL Thornton We're getting warmer... Looks good... could see a vet LOOGY signed late in the season like Byrdak or Beimel on the cheap. And a couple of kids(Infante/Carter/Marquez/Nunez/Dolsi/) fight it out for the LR/MR roles
  21. Wonder if this is prior to the Crain signing or in addition. If it's the latter, then holy s**t; KW/Reinsdorf and company really want to win a World Series in 2011
  22. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Linebrink replacement. I think its an upgrade and will probably be for less money per annum. I hate these longterm deals for relievers but not much you can do in this market. Uncle Jerry is digging deep this year. I think he's more Putz replacement with Santos/Infante/Carter/Nunez taking care of Linebrink's role. Nonetheless what an amazing offseason.
  23. Sorry for the confusion. I doubt anything will transpire with the Yanks/White Sox. And to tell you the truth, aside from Montero, Yankee prospects don't excite me enough to trade a cost-controlled young SP like Floyd or Danks. If they had a deal in place to drop CQ for a 5th starter/prospects and wanted to turn Floyd into Granderson/prospects; i'd be fine with that. Even considering how horrible Granderson is against LHP.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Trade 2 starters? Ehhh... No, one or the other. Not both. Obviously the packages wouldn't be similar, since Floyd/Danks/Jackson have different values. But I tried to give a laundry list of players I feel could accompany needs. If the Yankees propose Curtis Granderson, Hector Noesi and Danny Brewer for Gavin Floyd I'd have to seriously consider.
