QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) If one of Flowers/Morel/Danks had to be included, then I'd make sure it wasn't Flowers. I know he's really struggling right now, but I still think he's got the most upside of the three and provides us with an option at catcher for next year if need be. As for Danks/Morel, I'm not sure who I'd rather include in the trade. You'd be selling high on Morel and selling low on Danks. On the otherhand, Morel might be able to contribute in some capacity next season, while Danks doesn't even look close to being a major leaguer at this point. IMO, Danks has the higher upside, but he's unlikely to ever become more than a reserve outfielder if he can't significantly cut down on those strikeouts. I'd rather hold onto Morel over Danks. Good defender, line drive hitter in the mold of a Michael Young/Brian Roberts type of player. John has to understand Jordan has had all the time to show what he can contribute and it seems like the same story each year: K-rate is ridiculously high.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) I wouldn't even blink over trading Hudson and one of Danks or Morel for Dunn. That's a damn good deal for us. Don't you think that might stretch our rotation a bit thin? That would make one of Torres/Marquez/Sale?? as our 5th starter. Don't get me wrong I agree with you; if it's Hudson and Morel/Danks2 for Dunn that's a great deal for us. But i think that would have to be tied with another move for a starter: and who would we trade? and for whom? I'd rather KW take advantage of the Phillies/Oswalt situation and see what it would take to get Werth. Amaro wouldn't ask for Beckham and we could probably get away with not trading Hudson.

Werth would be a great addition to the squad. 1.) He'd give us better defense in RF and move Quentin to DH. 2.) He would take care of the LH Power Role, since he's hitting righties (.901 OPS) better than lefties (.836) 3.) He'd command much less than Dunn via trade. I read a report somewhere that stated the Phillies were wanting to dump Werth somewhere so they could use the savings/prospects to attain Oswalt. So I don't think they necessarily demand Hudson. I think a package of Santos, Marquez, and Gilmore would be fair for both teams. I say yes to Werth.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:02 AM) If he gets sent down, it means we are not going to win the division. We can't win with Lilly/Omar at second. It does in my world . If Gordon hits .203 he's not helping our club win. Plus, didn't you see I added Dunn. Rios/Quentin/Dunn/Konerko at the Cell is gonna crush. C'mon bud don't pee in my Kool Aid and tell me its lemon flavor.

- Sox trade Jordan Danks/Charlie Shirek to WAS for Adam Dunn. Does extremely well, expresses interest in signing extension. - Beckham hits well for a few games, but still struggles. Sent down to AAA; Lillibridge and Vizquel fill in. - Quentin continues his tear and ends up with higher HR/RBI than 2008(36/100) - Konerko and Rios cool off a bit, but still close to/or above their career averages. - The starting pitching does ok. Floyd does the best with Freddy being the weak link. - They continue their stellar defense and end with the fewest errors in the AL. - Finish atop the AL Central with Minnesota behind 4 games(but still in the wildcard race). - Lose to Yankees in the ALCS.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) So the team had an 11 game winning streak and now a 7 game streak with a break in between. I would have never expected this group to do this. I hope the all star break doesn't cool this team down. The real bummer is when the Sox play the Twins I'll be living in AZ. Has anyone ever bought the MLB web streaming? It's either that or loiter a sports bar. The neat thing is I will be living 10 minutes away from the Spring training facility. Me an my brother are hoping to get a chance to watch Strasburg pitch against the Diamondbacks in August. Tickets are really cheap too. Even if the Sox are good or bad, I may suffer from White Sox withdrawal. At least I still have Sox Talk. You never need to pay for MLB.TV or Extra Innings or any other bulls**t for that matter. All you need is: 1.) Trusted family/friend who lives in the TV broadcast zone. 2.) Two computers. One with a TV tuner. 3.) gotomyPC.com account ($14.95/month $90/season+playoffs with a 30-day trial) There are other remote PC access accounts(Remote PC, BarracudaDrive) that are free or cheaper, do some research. I know MLB.TV lowered their prices to $14.95/month $79.99/season, but if you figure that you will also have access to Hawks, Bulls, Bears, Local College?? games than it's more cost-effective to do this. Both the computers need to share the remote access password. This is where the trust comes in. All you do is have your family/friend hook up Computer A w/the TV tuner onto the channel the game is on(WCIU,CSN,WGN Access Computer A with Computer B using gotomyPC.com account. Enjoy live feed. My friend did this at school for the Oakland A's games, I guess he really wanted to see them lose . But works pretty well. I don't condone any illegal activity.

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) No. haha

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) No. Wow, No, what a sound rebuttal. Montero's line after 4 seasons: .309/.368/.486/.855 Flower's line after 5 seasons: .281/.392/.490/.882 Flowers also has ~20 more HR/ ~60 more RBIs. Flower's(.63) BB/K ratio is better than Montero's(.53). The only thing Montero has on Flowers is the bloated over-evaluation of AL-East minor league systems. But back to the comparisons. 2B David Adams 3 seasons: .281/.370/.439/.809 CJ Retherford 4 seasons: .283/.336/.464/.800 CJ has 3 times as many HR and twice as many RBIs than Adams. RHP Zach McAllister: 37-27 3.14 ERA 1.204 WHIP Carlos Torres: 35-32 3.49 ERA 1.317 WHIP McAllister is better than Torres here. But keep in mind Torres has pitched fairly decent when he was called up to the Majors. Very similar trade packages; only thing is NYY prospects are ridiculously overvalued.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Except we're in no position to sell of valuable assets (Flowers) for a 3 month rental. True but if you were to tell me that's all it would take to acquire Lee, I'd call you crazy.
-
Wow so it looks like Jesus Montero-David Adams-Zach McAllister for Cliff Lee. We could have gotten Lee for Flowers-Retherford-Torres. Unbelievable. I don't get surprised when the Yankees sign top guys in FA, but when they dupe teams into these trades; it's pretty evident how good their front office is.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) http://budweiser-budvar.cz/en/kontakt/prod...ru/ostrava.html When I was in Ostrava in late 2006, they were still marketing it as Budweiser, just different logo. yep that's it. I feel a beer appreciation thread coming on.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) If you like to drink beer, Eastern Europe's the place. They actually have Budweiser beer which is claimed to be THE ORIGINAL version...sorry, StL Cardinals fans and Mark Buehrle. Since it's the weekend, you can google Davon Kim, but I would recommend not doing it at work! I'm sure she has her own personal pages at freeones.com or asianthumbs.org. And no, she's not a lesbian, either. I'm sorry that I could never make it to one of her shoots for bikinipleasure.com (I think Midwesterners would still be shocked to see a girl actually wearing a "micro-kini" at a public place), that would be impossible to be an "objective" observer at...right now she's in the Canary Islands/Buenaventura with a Ukrainian model doing a shoot. It's called Budvar and you can find it at Binny's or specialty liquor stores. Czechvar is more common around here, made by the same brewery and almost alike. Can't go wrong with any Czech beer. If you want to check out a good underrated European beer, try Skopsko, brewed in Skopje Macedonia since 1922, but original recipe came from guess who "Czech immigrant farmers".

Not Born, 1986. +1 for the young-ins. another +1 for Eastern Europeans. 100% Albanian. Sorry no hot models, just hairy women and decades of feudal war.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) I would imagine that he played something like 18 games against those 5 teams. You can't use 18 games as a justification that a player is going to be good against the AL if he were to make the transition. I understand the sample size, I was just handcuffed at work today to thoroughly find/calculate the numbers. Dunn's career average AL OPS is .896 and that's in 128 games, which again is still a small size. But .896 is very respectable. His best numbers come against Toronto, Texas, KC, and Detroit. Dunn is a slugger. I personally was pulling for him in 2008, when he was a free agent and we were after Abreu. Before that I think he put up 40 HR/Season 3 out of 4 years. If the Sox acquire him, which is slightly a pipe dream, no one here should have cause to complain. He'll do fine.
-
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) He'd hit just about the same number. He played in one of the best hitter's parks in baseball in Cincinnati facing weak National League pitching and hit only as many as 8 more homers than that. You wouldn't expect him to come over to the American League and become a better hitter, as virtually no players do. I think you're discounting this. National league pitching is certainly not weak. And on his translation as an AL hitter last year he had an average OPS of .905 against BAL, BOS, NYY, TB, TOR. An OPS of 1.472 against the Yankees, a hitters park like ours. IMO, Dunn would work out just fine in the AL. *edit I re-read your post and saw that you weren't saying Dunn would do worse in the AL just wouldn't become a better hitter. Apologies.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Luke Scott's probably the best cost effective player I've seen mentioned so far in this thread. Cost also factors into the type of talent you give up in a trade. I don't see them giving up anything other then B-prospects, so people who are suggesting Yonder/Kila/or any other young talent is missing the point. The point is to trade for a productive over-priced short term solution.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) realistically i'd love to see Laroche or Luke Scott. What I would love to see is them giving Hudson a start or 2 to kinda judge whether or not the can send say a Gavin Floyd for Dunn or Fielder. Or another name thats mentioned on here a lot is Kila Ka'aihue and i might even give up flowers to get him. I'll throw Brad Hawpe's name out there, .281/.367/.467/.834. Won't really cost much, talent-wise. I think I'd rather have LaRoche than Scott. Both are nice players, but I'd be reluctant with Scott by how he fell off last year after the ASB. His Pre-ASB OPS was .976 and post was .667. While on the other hand, it's almost a sure thing LaRoche will have two amazing months in the second half of the season. Watching the Sox play in National Park(how the ball just seemed to hang up in the outfield) it's incredible to think Dunn hit 38 homers last year. And beyond comprehension on what he'd hit at US Cellular. If the White Sox are buyers: Dunn, LaRoche, Hawpe; seem like the three names that would come up, maybe an improbable chance of a Fielder trade. But I wouldn't hold my breath. Let's see if we can continue this after interleague play.

Per Chi City Sports. I don't know if this was posted yet, but it looks like the White Sox dealt Wes Whisler to the Marlins last night. Others are saying its Whisler and two other minor leaguers, but no details have been released. Who do you think the White Sox could be targeting? Cantu? Sanchez? Ross? maybe Logan Morrison?

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 07:22 AM) Well, you have a point. However, didn't Ozzie and Ozney have an agreement that he would go to college if he wasn't picked by the 6th round? If that's true, then I guess it really didn't matter whether he was picked in the 8th, or the 22nd round. I just find it hard to believe that all of these people have suddenly displayed their worst behavior, at precisely the moment that they are being so carefully scrutinized by the MLB.COM coverage. Wouldn't you think that the opposite would be true? They should all be trying to put forth their best public image, unless it's just a well orchestrated stunt. For my part, I'm put off by the whole thing, either way. If they are all such idiots, I find it embarrassing as a Sox fan. If it's all a stunt, I'm equally offended by their attempt to dupe baseball fans everywhere. If I enjoyed these kinds of silly theatrics, I'd be a fan of Wrestlemania, not baseball. This is definitely something that provokes speculation, more so your point on Reinsdorf's behavior. We're all familiar with KW/Ozzie rapport, we can judge when the media tries to frame this problem as a current predicament, when us Sox fans know different; but the puzzling thing, as you stated, is Reinsdorf lack of intervention during this tug-of-war. When the sides got personal and started involving family(Oney,Ozney) and different business ventures(Market Restaurant) Reinsdorf should've stepped in and reminded everyone what their jobs/roles were. Because last time I checked neither of them have been very effective this year. The reason he didn't do that and allowed this to ballon into a farce is head scratching. But I'm not much for conspiracy theories.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Allow me to speculate about all of this with a completely different hypothesis. Consider the following: 1) Baseball is after all entertainment 2) Jerry Reinsdorf is a pretty smart owner 3) There is intense competition between the Sox and Cubs for the Chicago baseball entertainment dollar. 4) There is this MLB.COM reality show being produced featuring the White Sox. 5) Ozzie has always been regarded as a very entertaining personality, and not above theatrics I recall the video of A.J. and the mock fight with a professional wrestler during Spring Training, a couple of years ago, in which Ozzie participated by hitting the guy with a folding chair. What if the producers of MLB.COM suggested to the Sox that they could generate a lot of interest and publicity if they staged a big riff between Ozzie and Kenny? Jerry Reinsdorf, though reluctant to go along, decided it would be worth the publicity. Such a scenario would explain how a smart business man like Reinsdorf would tolerate such behavior without stepping in and firing someone. If this is not an act, then there are a lot of people here who are bigger idiots than we think. Ozzie would have to be an idiot for allowing his sons to cause so much controversy. Kenny Williams would have to be an idiot for not exercising some self restraint, and for allowing Ozzie to usurp his responsibilities and control. Ozzie’s family would all have to be idiots for creating such a scene and jeopardizing Ozzie’s professional career. After all none of this would look good on his resume, if it were real, and if he ever intends to get another managing job in the Big Leagues. If this isn't a publicity stunt, wouldn't you think that everyone involved would be on their best behavior, knowing that it will all come out in the MLB.COM show? Maybe we're the idiots here for falling for this stunt. “I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’‘. I would've agreed with you completely, before the draft. My general assumption was much like yours, The White Sox/MLB are trying to generate some interest in there upcoming show, so they're showcasing the dysfunctional dynamic between KW/Ozzie. But the Sox taking Ozney at round 22, where he was projected at 8-12. Is a pretty hard hit to question if it was fake. It's one thing to stage a riff between two characters in Chicago and its another thing to jeopardize a young talent's financial/professional career and use him as a pawn in a publicity stunt. What if another team had taking Ozney? MLB would've had to manipulate the draft so as Ozney would've been available that late. If that's the case, it then becomes a disconcerting case of MLB's authority. I think the relationship between Ozzie/KW is entirely real and has been for some time, only now before their reality show is it starting to garner more media attention.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Joey Votto of the Reds. It's a long shot, but not an impossibility. The Reds have stud 1B prospect Yonder Alonso just about ready to be called up- so they'll have to either move one of these guys to LF or trade one. It wouldn't be cheap, but there's at least some logic behind it. Would Love Votto as well. Kinda like a second coming of a young LH Konerko. If I remember correctly we got him from Cincy. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Morris went right after the Sox took Grimes. I think we all would have liked to seen Morris picked instead. Was hoping for Morris as well. We got lucky with the last Auburn 1B why not try our hand on another. Oh well though, don't know much about Grimes, but it sounds like he'll be hard to sign.
