  1. I'm getting mad LaMarr Hoyt vibes from Kimbrel in the throwback uni!
  2. Yermin is under contract with Big League Advance for a loan he took out with them earlier on in his career. It was documented in Real Sports, can't find the HBO link, but here's a write-up: https://www.southsidesox.com/2021/6/22/22545598/white-sox-yermin-mercedes-hbo-featured-on-hbos-real-sports. In these contracts, these athletes agree to give a percentage of their "total career earnings" for typically one large cash advance. I'm willing to bet this retirement fiasco is just a scheme to wiggle out of this, before coming back from retirement and cashing in.
  3. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) Red Sox still linked to #WhiteSox slugger Jose Abreu, but keep an eye on Cardinals. @scotgregor: https://t.co/zObvTOxJTk https://twitter.com/dailyherald/status/939661213394280449 Wonder what key piece puts it over the edge for each team? Boston = Devers St. Louis = Reyes
  4. Free Agents Hector Rondon Michael Pineda Jarrod Dyson Trades Abreu to STL for Carson Kelly, Jake Flaherty, Sandy Alcantara, & Jonathan Machado Garcia + Davidson to ARI for Pavin Smith & Anthony Banda Draft Nander De Sedas – SS Roll into the 2018 season with the best farm system in MLB – by a long shot – with strong competition in several key positions.
  5. Viciedo to SEA for Tom Wilhelmsen and a low A prospect Danks + Thompson/Beck to LA for Crawford + $$$ Sign Brandon Beachy & Rickie Weeks
  6. Decline on Floyd & Konerko...(hopefully Paulie just retires) Try to move Dunn & Danks (maybe could see Dunn moved but it's highly unlikely for both to be moved) Extend Sale, Beckham, & maybe Quintana /or Reed Sign Tim Lincecum & Delmon Young
  7. That's such an underwhelming return for Rios. I don't have a problem if the Sox are calling this a salary dump, which it is, but please hold someone accountable. You can't keep making mistakes on top of other mistakes and hope your fanbase doesn't catch wind of your flawed organization.
  8. Rios + cash to PIT for Hanson & Kingham Ramirez to STL for Martinez & Adams until tomorrow.
  9. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) Who is Wendelkan? http://www.soxprospects.com/players/wendelken-jb.htm
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) White Sox: Garcia, Middlebrooks+Allen Webster Red Sox: Peavy Tigers: Iglesias Would like that better.
  11. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) @ChrisCotillo: Source: #WhiteSox have discussed Carlos Martinez, Kolten Wong, and Michael Wacha with the #Cardinals in potential Peavy/Ramirez deals. For a Peavy/Ramirez deal to STL, I can see this combo: Choose one of: Matt Adams Carlos Martinez Kolten Wong Michael Wacha Choose two of: Tyrell Jenkins John Gast Carson Kelly Michael Blazek Choose one of: Seth Blair Charlie Tilson James Ramsey Eric Fornataro Jordan Swagerty Tim Cooney Wong, Jenkins, Kelly, & Blair for Peavy/Ramirez would be my pick
  12. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 29, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Kubel seems to make pretty good sense to me based on who's available. No reason why there's not room for him. If none of them got injured at all (very unlikely) and playing time was split exactly evenly between Konerko, Dunn, Rios, De Aza, Viciedo, and Kubel, that would be 135 starts per player. I agree, but at the right cost.
  13. Flowers need sunlight to bloom. Say no to AJ, it's time to close that book.
  14. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) Heard that a guy the Sox are considering as a Floyd replacement is a certain former 1st rounder that may be non-tendered by a division rival tomorrow... Chris Volstad? 1st Rounder in 2005, possibly dropped by KC.
  15. Trade Floyd to MIL for Martin Maldonado & Mat Gamel Sign Brandon McCarthy, Youkillis, Mike Adams
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) I know it is risky, but I still think the Sox are Royals could be a good fit with pitching and 3B's. Be careful what you wish for.
  17. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 01:55 AM) Dan Hayes is reporting that Beckham, DeAza, Floyd and Viciedo might be traded this off season. Beckham, Viciedo to TOR for Edwin Encarnacion, Rajai Davis Floyd to WAS for Danny Espinosa, Sandy Leon Aza I believe is smokescreen for Rios, but then again the whole report could've been. CF De Aza LF Davis DH Dunn 1B Konerko RF Rios C Pierzynski - resigns 3B Encarnacion SS Ramirez 2B Espinosa Leon starts in AAA, maybe makes Pierzynski available for trade.
  18. QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 02:50 AM) If the Sox can sign McCarthy and jettison Floyd, I will be pretty giddy. Sale Peavy McCarthy Danks (Healthy) Santiago/Quintana/Anyone Would look pretty good. I'd like that rotation as well. Maybe Floyd + prospects could be packaged for a young 3B and a left-handed catcher: Kyle Seager/John Jaso?
  19. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 7, 2012 -> 08:14 AM) I know you put some thought into this, so I don't want to be too critical here, but Chone Figgins has been one of the worst players in the league 3 years in a row. .646 OPS in 2010, .484 OPS (!!!!) in 2011, and .533 OPS in 2012. He's owed $8 million in 2013 and a $9 million option vests for 2014 if he gets 600 PA in 2013. You can bet that Seattle isn't going to give him anywhere near 600 PAs next year. Olivo is now 33 years old and he only hits LH pitching. The Sox already have Tyler Flowers on the roster, so Olivo makes very little sense. Jason Vargas had a 97 ERA+ last year - his 3.85 ERA was severely deflated by playing in Safeco. He is a middling to low strikeout pitcher who throws lefty, and he is historically a flyball pitcher - which is death in US Cellular. So unless we want 4 lefties in our rotation, one of them beyond mediocre, he makes little sense for the White Sox. So we'd be trading an All Star OF and a decent lefty starter for really bad/expensive pieces. Arguably, it would be the worst trade on its face in recent MLB history. I'm not sure there's anyone on the Seattle roster other than King Felix (untouchable) or Kyle Seager that I would touch with a ten foot pole at this point. Maybe John Jaso. Floyd for Davis/Patton? Chris Davis is a decent player, but he's a 1B-DH at this point. So he would be stuck behind Konerko and Dunn. Patton is a nice piece, though. Again, not sure there is anyone on the Orioles roster I would want except for the untouchables (Markakis, Jones) Was trying not to overvalue our players. I'm guilty of that at times. I like Rios but he's proven to be a liability, considering his tenure on the south side. I definitely think KW should sell high on him and I think picking up Floyd's option and attempting to trade him late in the offseason could be a good idea once teams overpay for Grienke, Haren, etc. and big spenders who fell short look for bottom of the barrel bargains. I suggested Figgins, Olivo, Vargas for the past ties KW has had with those names, but would be excited if that package could fetch more. Who would want to trade though, Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Oakland ?? Still in keeping perspective, I have my doubts teams will overpay for Rios and see at any attempt trading him would be a success. Floyd I think would be a great fit for the Orioles, being from the area could provide extra incentive for both sides to get something done. I think Patton would be a great addition to the pen and I feel Davis would fit well with the Sox. He played over 40 games in the outfield this past season and his career lines playing at US Cellular and more notably Kauffmann Stadium have been terrific. More generally I think we trade Floyd for a pen piece and outfielder, considering Rios will be traded and the majority of our FAs are let go.
  20. Trade Rios/Quintana to SEA for Vargas/Olivo/Figgins Trade Floyd to BAL for Davis/Patton Decline Peavy/Liriano/Youk/AJP/Hudson/Myers resign Johnson/Wise/Olmedo Sign James Shields Sign Shaun Marcum Sign JJ Putz --------------------------------- CF Alejandro De Aza 3B Chone Figgins 1B Paul Konerko DH Adam Dunn LF Chris Davis RF Dayan Viciedo 2B Gordon Beckham C Tyler Flowers SS Alexei Ramirez BN Miguel Olivo BN Dan Johnson BN DeWayne Wise BN Ray Olmedo SP Chris Sale SP James Shields SP John Danks SP Jason Vargas SP Shaun Marcum RP Hector Santiago RP Nate Jones RP Troy Patton RP Donnie Veal RP Jesse Crain RP Matt Thornton RP Addison Reed CL JJ Putz
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) John Danks is flat out unmovable right now. I agree that's why I think they keep Peavy and trade Floyd
  22. The Sox have a ton of decisions to make this offseason... Peavy, Liriano, Youkilis, Myers, Hudson - all could potentially be free agents (Personally think they keep Youk and Peavy) or do you capitalize on high market value and trade Rios or Dunn? Do you part ways with Danks or Floyd? (I think if they keep one of Liriano or Peavy; they lose Danks or Floyd) Is Beckham around next year? or do you package him for a pitcher? There a ton of uncertainty for 2013 but KW has decisions; and ironically those are the times where he performs his best work. And also should make for a very fun & busy offseason to follow.
  23. This is a tremendous win for the Blue Jays. Snider never really panned for TOR and he nets them a very capable bullpen arm. ...Lincoln would've been a good fit in our bullpen.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:17 PM) Sure, why not? It's a rumor. I don't understand why people are getting pissed about this particular rumor being posted. Unless I've completely missed the point of the Trade Winds subforum. It's not like I posted it in the Soxtalk regular forum, and I even included a question mark in the title. Some peoples just need to calm down and take a breath. As I said, we will find out in less than 16 hours if this holds any truth whatsoever. No point getting worked up about it. I'm just giving you a hard time.
  25. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:10 PM) I'm not really sure who was trusting this guy in the first place. You just thought it was a worthy enough lie to start a thread about it?
