QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) Fantasy Expert @MrFantasyExpert SOURCE: user playing with the Phillies via mlb2k12 could not find Jordan Danks or Nate Jones in the player search. (TRADE DENIED) I don't know if that's him admitting he is a lying asshole, or if he is mocking people who may have tweeting him wondering who the hell Jordan Danks and Nate Jones were. I dunno. My money's on him being a lying asshole. when will we learn not to trust any random twitter handles that aren't kOna.

If they think Danks pitches again this year: Floyd + Septimo to PIT for Kevin Correia, Brad Lincoln, and Josh Harrison. You then have Peavy-Sale-Danks-Liriano-Quintana-Correia-Humber to construct different rotations to keep injuries at bay. Correia/Humber could be used as swing-relievers late in the season when the lineup gets crowded. Brad Lincoln steps into the bullpen with Jones going down to AAA. Josh Harrison rounds out the bench: Hudson-Danks2-Harrison-Flowers

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 06:47 AM) Getting back on point, are we REALLY committed to paying a setup guy $10M next year?!!?!?!?!!?!?!? That's ridiculous. We must be getting $5M from Houston? What are the terms here please? As said previous to this reply, that option is vested to how many games he finishes, if the option does kick in, there's a $3M buyout that the White Sox can use. I see Myers as a fail-safe; he'll set-up and long-relief at first, but if Reed/Thornton continue to struggle I can see him close some games.

QUOTE (chicagostatecougars @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:59 AM) If he pitches well couldn't care less. +1 Trying to find role models out of a sport, that not only promotes but documents incessantly the individual athletic merits of its players, is extremely pointless. Might as well model your good samaritan skills by observing the ethical behavior of type-A-venture-capitalists. or to put it in other words... If he pitches well couldn't care less.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) When the Sox traded for Jackson his ERA was 5.16. Volquez is a similar style pitcher in that he has a good fastball, but has control problems. It would be nice if he was a workhorse, but at the time the Sox traded for Jackson they didn't have Peavy. At this moment, the Sox need quality innings more than just innings. Volquez is the best option aside from Hamels or Greinke. A package of Volquez and Street is really what the White Sox would need to propel them in the 2nd half and possibly through the playoffs. Who do we give up, though? We're thin in the farm and don't want to disturb the ML club because they're doing well.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 02:16 PM) Sox scouting the Marlins/Cardinals series... People thinking about a possible Miami trade.. but I wouldn't discount a St. Louis deal. Mitch Boggs or Lance Lynn maybe for someone like Axelrod, Petricka, or Castro coupled with Dan Johnson, I know he's not a prospect but a capable ML power bat that could be useful to a team with zero power from the left side.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) You sound as if sports teams should be treated like a charity. To a point they are. Most stadiums are built with tax player dollars. Not at all. I frequent games because I know at the end of the day it's business and not charity. Teams get sold and moved, not saying it could potential happen to the White Sox, but for some it's business. For others it's much more. -
Youk dabbled in a bit of acting.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) I don't know how you all feel but it was so nice having 30,000 in the stands. The Brewers fans were even educated on the game of baseball which made for an interesting night. Lots of drunk people in my section which was cool but there were two creepy guidos wearing white tees that were obnoxious. Half of that were Brewers fans. I generally dislike when front office complains about attendance, but KW has an argument. We go to ~10 games every season, last night was my 3rd game so far, It's a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things but its what I can do to help. If there's fans here who haven't been to a game yet this season, do me a favor and cancel your soxtalk account and go to a game (you're going to have fun). Yes Brewer fans are cordial, knowledgable and nice; but their cheering is the last thing I want to here when the Sox are down. There were so many Brewer fans last night, you could here booing when the Sox got the benefit from a call. That drives you crazy if you're out there supporting your home team. -
It's nice. The 2D moving still image is kind of overdone in sports, IMO. One piece of criticism is the ball is poorly composited as Peavy is pitching and Alexei is swinging. It looks off and it could've been done better. I love the dust reveal of "appreciate the game" at the end. One thing though I read the caption at the bottom of the video: "Moments" television commercial was selected by the White Sox as one of four winning submissions for the team's 2012 advertising campaign Being in the Design/Motion Graphics/Animation business I can tell you spec work is an ever-growing cancer that's deteriorating my industry. I'm disappointed the White Sox would pursue those measures. While this commercial and three others were selected as "winners" hundreds more were suckered into producing free work and that's plain wrong.

If indeed Oswalt heads to St. Louis and the Red Sox start getting anxious to trade for Gavin. What are the realistic expectations? Do the Red Sox have decent enough prospects? are they overhyped? If we're working on a position of leverage, I'd like KW to pull a fast one on a rookie gm. The Red Sox are starting to get desperate.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

I like Gordon's bat and has + speed with 17 SB last year, he would round out the top of the order well. I view De Aza as a 4th OF and don't think we'll sign Cespedes. Ramirez - Rios - Gordon - Konerko - Dunn - Viciedo - Beckham - Pierzynski - Morel Soria would be included to offset cash coming in from Floyd/Thornton. His salary could be absorbed this year and cut ties by buying out the club option(if he sucks) or (if he bounces back) he easily becomes a great trade candidate in 2013. Huston Street and Brandon League(I expect to be signed long-term before then) would be the best FA options. I'm cool with prospects, but at some point we have to realize we're the Chicago White Sox and not the Oakland A's. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) That's the thing though, I don't want Kenny actively shopping Floyd in an effort to dump more salary. If a team comes calling and is overpaying to get him, then do it, but Floyd is not someone we NEED to trade, like Quentin was. Agreed. My dream trade is Floyd+Thornton+$ for Joakim Soria+Alex Gordon. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) I'm hoping Simon Castro pans out. I think he will. KW/Coop/Scouting has a great track record with these type of pickups. Castro, IMO, has tremendous potential even after this past season. Plus, Quentin had to get dealt. Getting anything near this value is great success. Don't know if this was posted somewhere here: http://projectprospect.com/article/2010/10...scouting-report but good read, even though this was prior to his 2011 season.
-
This is a decent move. Simon Castro was one of the Padres dominating pitchers prior to his dismal 2011 season-which leads me to believe KW/Coop & Co. identified something they could tweak to return him to form. Thought maybe we could've gotten Grandal and Castro, but that might've been too much Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Sale, Humber with Molina, Castro, Stewart - waiting in the wings is pretty good.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) With all this money saved, I would actually like to see Floyd given an extension. As much as I like Floyd, I think he's reached his ceiling with the Sox. If there's a team out there willing to overpay for him, I think you make that deal. -

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) There is a rumor on Twitter that the Sox target might be Adam Jones. I'd love to see him in a Sox uniform. Maybe a Floyd deal?? I don't see the need to target an OF, I'd prefer young SP prospects. but Viciedo-Jones-Rios would be a pretty nice OF. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 19, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) If trades are to be made we have plenty of time. Those that need the pieces and don't have them around ST will be the ones in a pickle not us. Plus we do not have to move our people. Yes we do. We have to move Danks and Quentin at the very least. You realize they aren't signing extensions with the White Sox? Letting them go without compensation is a complete mismanagement of assets and should reflect negatively on KW. Good GMs can recognize/develop talent, great GM's know the precise moment to cash in those chips. -

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 18, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) The only teams we wouldn't match up well with are ones looking to trade RP prospects, right? Are we flush enough at any other position that we would have trouble matching up with any team that wants Danks? Basically, I'm confused as to how any team that wants Danks would match up better than any other, as long as they have enough value within their system (which, pretty much all the rumored suitors do). It's a wasted opportunity at the end of the day. but to answer your question. Different teams have different systems/prospect makeup. IMO, A Danks trade thats discussed between the Yankees (who have 4 prospects in the top 50) will more than likely end up being worse than a Danks trade thats discussed between the Reds (who have one in the top 50). There's a greater chance the Reds trade helps us more in terms of quantity(which is integral for a true rebuild). We match up better(to our benefit) with the Reds than the Yankees. Same can be said for the Red Sox, Blue Jays. The Reds were an intriguing, willing trade candidate and by reports were in talks with the White Sox. We know now in hindsight they were willing to overpay–indicating desperation. This should've been recognized and capitalized before a Latos trade is even spoken of. It was a good opportunity gone to waste. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) Because the Reds were clearly one team willing to overpay for that SP. Thank you. The Reds I thought matched up well for a possible Danks/Floyd/Thornton deal. After the Latos trade, they aren't an attractive trade partner anymore. People can talk about how "so many" teams are after SP, but it means nothing unless we match up well in a trade. At the end of the day, it was a lost opportunity. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Great post. It amazes me how so many want to shred the roster just to tag the team as officially "rebuilding." Shredding the roster will mean more than 10 years of horrible records on the southside. The team will be out of business by then. No good attendance figures at the Cell from this point on unless the team is good. Why do so many people just want young guys who suck on the field? At least with flavum's plan we COULD win. This team supposedly is built on pitching and home runs anyway. Hanging onto Danks is borderline crazy at this point. Sure you can make an argument about winning/ticket sales, but that's not what you dictated when you traded a cost-controlled Sergio Santos for a AA pitching prospect. Your first move indicated rebuilding. That coupled with no talks of an extension for Danks means you don't plan on him being on the roster after 2012. This is the time you trade Danks and if you feel like you won't compete in the near future you also field offers for Quentin, Konerko, Floyd, Alexei, whoever can bring you a bounty of talent. If Danks isn't traded before the season starts his trade value will be severely diminished, you then put the burden on yourself to sign him to an extension before the season ends, which is highly unlikely, So he walks in FA and you don't get anything. That's a mismanagement of personnel/value and is enough for GM's to get canned. The Padres made out like bandits in the Latos trade, maybe that's a good sign. But it doesn't mean s*** unless KW is actively seeking deals and not just throwing out absurd requests, like Banuelos/Montero for Danks, which make other GM's question if he's even serious about moving them. -
Any interest in the non-tendered? Will Rhymes Cole Garner Peter Moylan are some of the more intriguing non-tenders to me.

I always thought it would be fun if you could go catch a Sox game during the day (like a Sunday or something). Then after the game, those with proper credentials:(tickets, passes, etc.) sold prior; stick around for a concert at the cell. Tailgating, Baseball Game, Concert, Booze, Dogs with Grilled Onions–that's an awesome Sunday. possible partnership with The Loop, maybe bring back Dahl as the MC.
