QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) For Arenado, I don't see how they wouldn't. Arenado-Saladino-Sanchez-Abreu could be the best infield on defense, and Arenado and Abreu bring offense. Yeah but Arenado's splits away from Coors aren't that great and Saladino/Sanchez would probably be the weakest hitting middle infield in baseball. Anderson has to tools and speed to be an elite SS offensively and everything I've read says his defense has improved this season. Trading Q seems dumb considering the deal he is signed to and his effectiveness but I would rather move some one from a position of depth than trade our only good minor league position player. Also if we do move Q it could definitely be for some one who could hold down 3B at a high level for the next 3-5 years. Edit: Just looked at Arenado's stats this season and I don't think we have a package to land him without Q.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) OPS on the season: Melky .697, Avi .704. OPS+ Melky 97, Avi 99. wRC+, Melky 89, Avi 93. Both are below average hitters on the whole season. Melky's been a small step below with the bat and an equally small step upwards on defense and baserunning. Melky had a horrible start but has an .814 OPS since the ASB, and his pre ASB line (.261/.304/.339) looks close to Avi's season line. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 05:06 AM) I'd like to see Sanchez get time it short for the rest of the season. His bat really is light for second base. I would also consider Thompson in left and let Melky DH. Avi is younger, hits just as well as Melky, and needs the work. Melky is shaping up as dead money himself. Melky is a much stronger hitter and a (slightly) better fielder than Avi. Avi is the 2nd worst defensive RF in baseball this season behind only Matt Kemp, he needs to GTFO of right. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) I haven't been watching much. How is Trayce's defense? Nice to see him raking. He's looked solid in all the games I've seen him but supposedly his calling card in the minors was ML ready defense. -

I have a feeling the Sox will open 2016 with Saladino at short and either he bats Anderson into the majors or surprises and holds down SS, then we trade him and bring Anderson up. -
Avi needs to go to either DH or LF.. I think his DRS this year is like -10 and his uzr is around -5 as well. Horrible defender in right and his bat doesn't play anywhere near well enough to justify RF or his crap defense. I don't think you're ever going to see Micah and Avi in the same line-up if Sanchez remains at 2b because either Avi or Melky needs to be our DH next season.

Is it out of the question to see the Sox letting Shark go, taking the comp pick, trading Q and then actually signing a mid level starter from FA? A guy like Latos or Kennedy could probably be had on a 1 or 2 year deal while they try to build a little more value for next years free agency. Maybe even a Mark Buehrle goodbye tour or something.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) Sanchez long-term SS, Anderson long-term 2B, and our long-term 3B will be acquired through a trade, IMO. Still not sold on Anderson's defense at SS, while Sanchez played as much SS as he did 2B in the minors. Johnson would be traded, Saladino would be a bench player. Do you really think Sanchez has the arm for SS? He lollipops a lot of throws and he can't throw a relay from the OF to home base without stepping 2-3 times. Anderson has a good arm and great range, I think he is just working out the little nuances like footwork and apparently has taking huge strides defensively this year,

As a former resident of both Seattle and Chicago I have to say that while I did enjoy the Cell, Safeco has to be the best baseball stadium I've ever been to.

Looking like that anemic offense we saw the 1st half of the season

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) I'm mostly annoyed he swung at ball 3. He swung at the same pitch 2-0 that he took 1-0 and again swung at a ball for the DP

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) Can't imagine this is over ruled, at least from the csn angles. Angels replay shows he is out

LaRoche is so f***ing bad

I really just can't wait to see what they do this offseason. Hopefully it starts with getting a real 3b and paying some one to take LaRoche

omfg shark still out there

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Ventura has made some crazy decisions this series. I hope he has just given up and this isn't him trying to actually win. It has been nice to see him bench LaRoche and DH Avi but nothing else he has done makes sense.

Q I could stomach trading IF we got a deal worthy of his value, because I feel the pitching depth in the organization could justify adding 2 quality, young, controlled regulars; however, we are in literally 0 position to trade a guy like Eaton just because Trayce Thompson (who I like) is beating lefties 12 AB's into his career. Trayce should be starting against every lefty we see and I wouldn't mind seeing him in 80-120 games next year giving guys off days, starting against lefties and coming in late as a defensive replacement/pinch hitter, but suggesting we trade Eaton and just start TT isn't a path I would want to go down. Now if he does play that many games next year and continues beating lefties and shows some success against righties, then we are talking about a guy we should play 155 games in RF/CF.

The Sox should maybe trade for Hanley Ramirez
Knackattack replied to Vance Law's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) There are a relatively finite number of humans on earth with a shot at being an average-or-above major league third baseman in 2016. If not Hanley, who could/should the Sox plausibly get to play there and upgrade the offense next year? They'll play Saladino there most likely and sit and hope Michalczewski can man the spot at some point in 2017 And honestly if Saladino bats somewhere from 7-9 and puts up D like he has this year at that spot I'd be happy with him there. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) Filled in what sense? To win a division? Doubtful. They need to play Thompson - see what they have. They could get a nice return for Eaton, if Thompson could replace him. Don't think they can afford not to have power at the 2 corner spots, esp with nothing from C, 2B and 3B (although that will obviously have to change to contend). They're stuck with Melky although I guess he can DH. Much bigger anchor than Avi. Why would we trade Adam Eaton? He is one of the top 3 bats on the team and an above average offensive CF signed cheap
-
I wouldn't mind putting him in CF and switching Eaton to right while having Avi only DH. If he can't negate his bat's value on the field he is actually a useful piece and maybe his fielding comes to the plate with him and makes him press and try too hard. From what I've seen he is batting better out of the DH spot.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Especially because his history tells us that this year is probably a fluke or a product of being used in better match ups. Pick one. His line is pretty much on par with his career batting averages
