  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) So we're introducing Robertson and Samardzija before Duke and LaRoche? QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) I don't think they're going to introduce them. http://www.southsidesox.com/2014/11/26/729...r-plans-for-him
  2. Why do people get so worked up about #1/#2/#3? After the first week it doesn't matter. Also, I just love hearing Rick Hahn talk. Pretty serious mancrush.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) Are you kidding? We signed an extra DH and committed to carrying Leury Garcia on the roster before the winter meetings. I canceled my Extra Innings subscription that day because it was clear the Sox didn't care about winning one iota last year. Signing Abreu and trading for Eaton had me pretty excited. If you consider deadline stuff in 2013, the Garcia acquisition. Sale being Sale. I was pretty excited--I wasn't expecting them to contend but I think most of us enjoyed 2014 a decent amount, and it was a pretty good offseason.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) Eh, still don't like it and fully expect the team to disappoint, but I'm a lot less annoyed with actually trying to win than throwing in the towel like we did last offseason. Wait. You think that's what Hahn did last offseason?
  5. You can buy this on iTunes as well.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) The bad trade he made was for Shark - You don't give up a top 5 prospect for 2 years of a number 2 starter. Otherwise, he was trying to win. Isn't this exactly what Dayton Moore did?
  7. Gregor just tweeted that Crede, Podsednik, and Kotsay won't make it tonight due to cancelled flights, thanks to that asshole in Aurora.
  8. I won't be making it out tonight, but I'll be there tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the ceremony anyway.
  9. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 08:47 AM) I'm sad that the end of his career kind of goes out on a low note team-wise. I dunno about that. Last year, I would've agreed with you. But despite this season being bad results-wise, this team is a lot more inspiring than it's been for years. It seems fitting that his final curtain is at the end of a season where we've definitely felt a changing of the guard for the roster and the organization. We have some fantastic young pieces including one of the best pitchers in baseball and a slugging first baseman. No time like now to say goodbye.
  10. Like a lot of people my age (turn 25 in November), '98 was my first real exposure to watching baseball. 1999 was my first year watching all the way from Opening Day, and my first year going to the park. Going back to the box scores, Paulie actually didn't play in my first game on June 6th, '99--Frank DHed, Norton played third, and Liefer played at first. Regardless, he's a guy who's always been there. I took a bit of a sabbatical from baseball during my high school years, meaning I unfortunately didn't get to fully appreciate '05 in the moment, but when I came back to it in '08 it was meaningful to me that Konerko was still around. He and Buehrle were the guys who spanned the two eras for me. I'll be glued to the TV for tomorrow's ceremony and at the park on Sunday.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) Does the PK Day on Saturday mean he won't be playing on Sunday? This is what I'm dreading.
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) It was actually a really good call to have it on Saturday night instead of Sunday. Packers @ Bears, 12:00. I'm aware of the reasons for it, but as a person who 1) has had tickets to the finale since February and 2) doesn't give a s*** about football, it is a bit annoying.
  13. So not only do loyal fans with Fan Appreciation Day tickets not get the Konerko ceremony, they also don't get a Sale start. Yeesh.
  14. I'm a bit miffed to be missing "Paul Konerko Day" as I have tickets for the finale on Sunday, but oh well. I can just catch it on TV then pay tribute on the day that actually makes sense.
  15. TBS feed is available across the country; I seem to remember hearing this as part of the new TBS deal. Turn to TBS and you get a Hawkless broadcast. Woo!
  16. Did Abreu pick up some tweak that I missed? Third game in a row at DH.
  17. QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) Ok, and that's fair enough. But to say times have changed, you obviously have never been in a locker room recently. There are people who are in their 20's saying much worse things than "they should wear skirts." And it's not just 1 or 2 people, it's a lot of people. I'm a high school teacher and calling things "gay" or "retarded" and the like are two things that I cover on day one. I know things haven't totally changed, but I'd imagine it's gotten a lot better. I don't really have a control group since the community I teach in is different than the one I grew up in, but from what I've heard even in that community it's gotten 10x better in terms of "f*****" and the like. Things don't change until people make a stand. They're not going to go away on their own.
  18. As others have said it'd be a lot easier now than if it had ended up happening in the 70s or late 80s. I'd imagine I'd follow them for a little while but passion would fade as the years went on and the former Chicago players left. I'd probably wind up a Brewers fan before long.
  19. QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 11:42 PM) So you are saying you've never said someone was a "p**sy" or "f*g" or told someone to drop their balls or get their panties out of a bunch, or said something was "gay?" If you haven't, I find that extremely hard to believe. I literally haven't said things like that since middle school, when I stopped, thought about it for a second, and realized how awful those things were to say.
  20. Anyone who doesn't understand why this was at the very least a stupid thing to say is painfully out of touch, clinging to a time when certain groups weren't empowered enough to call people on their bulls***. Your old road is rapidly aging. Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand...
  21. Also, all week I'll be posting some "Big Hurt Facts" from my Twitter account... From '69 expansion through his last season in '08, Frank Thomas is second in Fangraphs oWAR, trailing only Bonds. From the stock market crash through the end of the century, Frank is behind only Williams, Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle in wRC+. Frank is the only RH in #MLB history with 10k PAs and a career slash of .300/.400/.500. One of only SEVEN overall.
  22. Dad and I are flying into Boston Friday morning and renting a car to drive to Cooperstown. We're staying in Johnstown, which is about an hour away. We'll be there for the Awards Ceremony and Parade Saturday (hoping to hit the Hall itself first thing in the morning), then Sunday's ceremonies, obviously. We have tickets for a game at Fenway next Monday night, then hanging out and seeing the sights in Boston before flying back to O'Hare Tuesday night. Can't wait.
  23. Anyone think they skip Carroll and have Sale start on Monday? I'm going on Monday and crossing my fingers...
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 1, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) I believe we have to suffer the Cubs announcers on May 6th and 8th on WGN as we talk them on May 7th is being shown on ESPN All games are night games. I can stomach the Cubbies mouthpieces to see the Sox play and beat them I actually look forward to these games because it means I get to watch a Sox game without having to grimace through either of our terrible broadcast teams.
