  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 07:54 AM) While it was nice to see them win, I still have little faith in this team. Innings 1-8 were an absolute mess, and if they think they can put together that 1 solid inning to save them every day, they have another thing coming...not to mention, try that against the Royals and see how many runs you score through that pen. Happy they won...but still not believing. This team still can't field for s***, constantly giving other teams 4 outs per inning, walking batters left and right. Yea, I'm raining on your little parade here. 26 Major League teams have allowed more walks than the White Sox so far this year.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) How did they pick Pedro Martinez over, say, Randy Johnson or Greg Maddux? Just weird. And why are they inserting Bonds into the discussion? (Assuming they mean Barry and not Bobby). How could anyone not vote either Mays or Aaron there? If it was "most impactful/disruptive" leadoff hitter, then sure, Rickey Henderson, okay. Because he is one of the greatest players of all time? Just a wild guess.
  3. Luke Appling was basically the consensus greatest White Sox ever before Frank Thomas. That he doesn't have a statue is criminal.
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) I was seeing 91-93 QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) I was watching the posted velocity, and I never saw a single fastball over 90, from around the 3RD inning, on. As I said, he was consistently 88 - 89. That is Johnny Danks speed, and down from Jose's normal 93 - 94. Maybe that's why he was working so slowly. He and the catcher were trying to figure out what to do, given the lack of velocity. Seems to be in line with early season patterns from the last couple of years.
  5. I'm loving this A-Rod story. I think it's hilarious just how well he's doing, and the awkwardness it creates for MLB and the Yankees. Keep raking, Alex.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 06:55 AM) Him and Dotel gave me fits Dotel was worth 2 bWAR to the Sox over his two seasons. Not bad at all for a middle reliever.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Simply because they're not as iconic in terms of representing the heart of what it means to be a fan of this franchise. I can't even unpack what this means. The real problem, of course, is that the fans who remember seeing those guys play are dead. Dick Allen is the owner of perhaps the greatest offensive season in Sox history, and I know he is sometimes credited with saving the franchise, but his stay was much too brief to warrant inclusion on a Mount Rushmore. Crede and Rowand aren't even close.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) Noesi going Tuesday, so they have Sale, Quintana, and Danks back-to-back-to-back. Just like they wanted.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) Frank Thomas, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Nellie Fox, Aparicio. Billy Pierce and Minnie Minoso might be the best ambassadors the club has ever had, and nicest guys, but can't be the Top 4 IMO. I wouldn't put Harold Baines there over any of the Top 4, either. Ed Walsh, Hoyt Wilhelm, Ted Lyons, Red Faber, Ray Schalk, Eddie Collins and Luke Appling have arguments as well. Carlton Fisk...but didn't play quite enough to be considered more White Sox than Boston. How in the world do you put Fox and Aparicio over Collins and Appling? Both of those guys are on the shortlists for their positions ALL TIME. You know it's going to wind up Thomas/Konerko/Buehrle/Baines or something like that. EDIT: it's also infuriating that all they're providing on the page is BA, HR, RBI
  10. Alexei Ramirez has been a top five shortstop (arguably even better) in the game over the last six years and still gets basically no respect, even from his own fanbase.
  11. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) What a f***ing s***ty way to lose. I f***ing hate lexi I'd hate to hear how you feel about just about any other shortstop in baseball.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) guys like Price always get those close calls Good pitchers?
  13. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) I'll watch a Blackhawks playoff game over an April MLB game any day of the week and it isn't even close. I'll follow the Sox game on my phone. When I was in college and didn't have a way of getting CSN+ this annoyed me every April. I'd watch local beer league over any hockey game, personally.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) Yep. I'm waiting for the former Cub to live up to the hype. He's the one you need to worry about the most. Is he really?
  15. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) Looks like they're playing strategy so far. If Rodon starts April 26, I may buy a lottery ticket. I have tickets for that day. Would be pretty awesome.
  16. The Sox used the "tandem starter" idea in the minors last year.
  17. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Not really. Then the DH just moves to catcher and your pitcher has to hit the rest of the game. Not really that big of a deal for one game in the rare instance that the starting catcher would get hurt. It's a rare instance, but it's clear that teams are unwilling to take this chance. It's very rare that a team uses a catcher as a DH.
  18. "CSN+2" has been used numerous times in the past; I think on DirecTV it's usually channel "665-2"
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 3m3 minutes ago White Sox listing Samardzija Friday, Sale Saturday in Detroit. TBA Sunday. Hm.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) You don't skip anyone early in the season to make sure they can last and be more effective at the end of the season, especially if you think the Sox have a shot at the playoffs. Especially when your ace has just come off the DL.
  21. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) My DVR only recorded 21 minutes of it. Cool. They're re-airing it multiple times. All is not lost.
  22. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) The Sox fan in me loved it, the film student in me thought that it could've been a lot better. The editing was weak, I could go on. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) Correct. And I was right, the music sucked and was too loud. Sounds about right. I'm looking forward to watching it but it seems I was right not to regard it as appointment television.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) i am very bias in this, all i want to see is the sox minor league system. You are very biased.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) For an absolute ceiling, I like the Magglio comp. There is a lot of similarities in their approach. Do you really see him taking as many walks as Ordonez?
  25. I think Strasburg has (or at least had around the time of his debut) a 90mph change to go along with a high-90s fastball, too.
