  1. Saladino batting second again, and no Thompson. lolz
  2. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) This is sort of off-topic, but do you guys think that Danks will get into the HOF when he retires? My friend said that he has a shot. I was laughing hysterically, but I was wondering if anyone thought the same. This is a joke, right? Like, does your friend know what the Hall of Fame is? Does he think baseball was invented ten years ago?
  3. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) Sale is by far the best pitcher I have seen in White Sox pinstripes. Like a lot of us here, I feel like Buehrle might be more important looking back depending on how the rest of Sale's career turns out, but in terms of stuff and talent, it's Sale by a mile. It all comes down to whether or not the White Sox are able or willing to pay him after this current contract. They'll try to negotiate a new extension a la Longoria over the next year or so, I think.
  4. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) I always wondered who was doing those ratings. I can see why outsider would hate Hawk, I just don't get it from a hometown fan perspective (at least 10 years ago) It was crowdsourced; anyone could participate.
  5. Thanks a lot. Our network doesn't block the images themselves; it does block certain pages obviously. The ones I'm thinking about are the bikini photos, the Katy Perry and Kate Upton gifs and the like. I work in a school, so...
  6. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) Considered by who? Like who listens to all the broadcast teams and decides who the best is? As much as I prefer the Hawk from 10 and 20 years ago, and I can see why he is hated by many "critics" who aren't fans (and even by a lot of fans now), I still prefer him over the dry impartial broadcasting of other teams. We are watching hometown broadcasts, not national, I don't see what the big deal is about being a homer. I know a lot of what Hawk says it outlandish now and I can understand how he gets ripped for that, but I never understood the big deal with him being a homer. Both Awful Announcing and Fangraphs have done surveys over the last few years. They're obviously biased in that most of the people rating them are probably fans of the team, but there are plenty of diehards with Extra Innings or mlb.tv who are familiar with a ton of broadcast booths. Aside from Vin Scully, I personally enjoy the Astros and Mets. Cubs are fine, too.
  7. Giants are considered one of the best broadcasting teams. Cubs too. I think the Giants' are a bit overrated; I prefer Kasper. Solid broadcast.
  8. Is there a way to block/hide user avatars? Some of them are decidedly NSFW.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) If we are playing that game, the White Sox have had 4 of the best ten hitters of the last 20 years. White Sox all 90s/00s lineup, featuring Frank Thomas, Jim Thome, Ken Griffey Jr., and Manny Ramirez. Albert Belle and Jose Canseco available off the bench. EDIT: oops! Forgot Sosa. It would be fun to see where the Sox would rank in all-time teams if the only requirement was one pitch thrown/one plate appearance for the team.
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) I just can't for the life of me figure out how the Hall of Fame voters can look at Smoltz and say he's a first ballot guy and then look at Mussina and only have 25% vote for him. It makes no sense. To me, Mussina should be in before Smoltz. 1) the "did it as a starter and a reliever" thing 2) the Maddux coattails...which Glavine also benefited from. (NOT saying that Glavine was undeserving), and the dominance of the NL East that went along with it.
  11. This is terrifying. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
  12. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Seriously, where would he play? There's no place for Micah Johnson on the White Sox. I hope they trade him before he has zero value. Wow. That escalated quickly.
  13. Greg's comments in here read like a 14-year old who has just become aware that not everyone believes in God.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) I'd rather have Stoney take over as play by play with somebody like Paulie as colorman. Stoney can get used to play by play. Or let Farmer do it with Stoney... Reading this post is like looking into the darkest timeline.
  15. I don't really see what any unfounded speculation about PED use has to do with this topic in the first place. Not to mention that if you're saying you're glad we passed on him because you think he wound up using PEDs, you're a bit naive.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Wait until Kenny leaves and Buddy Bell gets promoted to assistant GM. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) +1 QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) Good call. That will not be pretty. Buddy Bell already is assistant GM.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Rodon might be the one guy who could bring a higher return than Sale simply because of control and contract situation. Even if not, his price is nearly impossible to meet unless you are starting with a Kris Bryant or Carlos Correratype of player. No way. Sale is super-affordable and people know what he can do. Rodon is a great prospect but he's not anywhere close to the other prospects you mentioned.
  18. The official press release reads... I had always heard they tried them for game one of the doubleheader and they were never seen again. Huh.
  19. Flowers is underappreciated. We've got a guy who has been one of the best framers in the game this year, by all accounts handles the staff very well, and can run into one every once in a while. Look at the catchers around the majors. Flowers is a major league catcher and is far from this team's most pressing issue.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) 10pm EDT is a brutal start if you have a morning job. :-/ Blame Walter O'Malley.
  21. I was assured by someone on here that Sale would choke today.
  22. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) Saladino and Sanchez are a joy to watch in the field, especially in the context of this current White Sox team. Chris Sale is also a joy to watch.
  23. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) Already Cubs fans are all over Facebook talking trash. They haven't won anything since 1908 and they're talking trash. This year is like shades of '69, you know, that "Magical" year on the north side when they blew a ten game lead. I'm expecting Sale to choke again today but I better be wrong or we'll never hear the end of it. Relax. I feel bad for you that you can't appreciate Chris Sale.
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) Here is hoping that Sale is the ace today. We need the win so as not to be the butt of Cubs celebrating and also to stay in the WC hunt
