Also, Leury Garcia has pitched for the Sox before and nobody cares about him. Like back in 2013 when Casper Wells came in to pitch. Nobody around me cared because nobody around me had any idea he was an outfielder. Alexei Ramirez is a Sox stalwart and one of those guys you never thought you'd see on the mound.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 09:08 PM) Damn, Federer had his chances but couldn't convert any of those breaks. Props to Novak though, he is the king right now. And how weird was the handing over of the winners check though? QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Haha. Glad I'm not the only one who thought that was totally bizarre. If you're going to do that, at least get one of those gimmick giant checks. They do it every year. They're also the only tournament I can think of who publicly announces the prize money at the trophy ceremony, which I think is a bit weird.

What would the Sox all time starting rotation look like?
3GamesToLove replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Walsh Faber Pierce Wood Sale Those are my five. Honorable mentions to people like Cicotte, Lyons, Buehrle. Or if you want to split it into two lists... 1901-1960 Walsh Faber Cicotte Lyons Pierce 1961-present Sale Horlen Buehrle Wood McDowell -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) Eh, it's an ode to the old Chicago Stadium. I noticed all the older folks who were able to see a game at Chicago Stadium love it. Younger folks hate it. Don't worry, that's the same reaction the older folks had when the court at the United Center was revealed. I don't think anyone hates it. I like every part of the redesign and it's a definite improvement. Just wish they could have kept the red and white lines.

Glad the basketball is gone, and the stars are a cool touch, but I don't like losing the red 3 pt lines.

Don't Take These Final Games For Granted
3GamesToLove replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sale's only 21 Ks short of the all-time franchise season record. I'd like to see him get to that, personally. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) Why are you projecting Soto back last year? He's not under contract. How much are you willing to pay for these 2 next year? Flowers as a 2nd year arbitration player will probably come in somewhere around $3-4 million. You prepared to pay $10 million+ for these 2? I'm not projecting anything. I'm not talking about offseason plans, I'm talking about how the team has performed. The catcher position was not the biggest problem this season. Not even close.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) That was mostly Soto offensively and it seems a lot like the pitchers we're hopefully keeping don't fit very well with him. Plus, Soto's going to get a good raise in FA based on his offensive output this year. Flowers has been worth 0.1 fWAR this year. That's not average, that's "replacement level", aka "below average, what you can pick up off hte scrap heap for minimum salary". Maybe you can say "that's ok the staff likes him", but that kind of performance means you MUST be even better offensively elsewhere to offset it. The catcher position is a wasteland right now, offensively speaking. Take Flowers's great pitch framing numbers (even with a grain of salt) and Soto's offense and it's plain that this team has problems more serious than catcher.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) Sox have little power, are bad defensively, bad at base running, baseball stupid regarding fundamentals, will not go to a manager who can in essence 'crack the whip' and maybe help players get better. They have black holes at catcher, DH, third base. Will need another starting pitcher with Shark leaving. RF can't seem to stay healthy. Middle infield is still young and learning (assuming Ramirez is gone). Lip, the White Sox are above league average at the catcher position.
-
Is he currently a very good player? No. But as a whole, after just one down year, would you write him off entirely? In that sense I'm still willing to call him a good player.
-
Guys, Steph Curry without his jump shot isn't very good.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) I despise the unbalanced schedule and always will. Ditch divisions. Balance the schedule and have the top 4 or 5 in each league go to the postseason. Of course, you can't do this with 15 team leagues.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) From 2009 to 2014 Alexei put up fWARs of 2.0, 4.1, 4.1, 2.0, 3.2 and 3.2 which averages out to 3.1. I think it's a huge disrespect to Alexei to say he his career has been a disappointment. Correct. Alexei Ramirez is in the top five shortstops in White Sox history and has been one of the best offensive shortstops in the American League since '09. Guy gets no respect from Sox fans for some reason, though.

300 would be great but was always a long shot. Getting the franchise record is the realistic one, six man rotation or not.

Saladino could take over ss until Anderson is ready

This is dumb. And are they really not going to pick up Alexei's option? -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) Yah yah yah...iphone autocorrect. "pale" autocorrected to "be pails"?

Chris Sale is the most bestest pitcher evar!
3GamesToLove replied to Rowand44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) Keith Law has Chris Sale as the Cy Young winner in his predictions column. Also had him finishing 4th in MVP voting. AL Cy Young 1. Chris Sale, SP, Chicago White Sox 2. Dallas Keuchel, SP, Houston Astros 3. David Price, SP, Toronto Blue Jays 4. Chris Archer, SP, Tampa Bay Rays 5. Corey Kluber, SP, Cleveland Indians Sale is leading the world in strikeout rate, leads the majors in strikeouts and does all the other things a starter needs to do to be good. He has mostly been better than he was last year -- his home run rate is up, but his strikeout rate is way up and his walk rate is slightly down -- but his ERA is a full run higher because, well, that's baseball. I believe these awards should go to the players who produce the most value, which I interpret as focused on the things they can control. Keuchel would still be an excellent choice if you wanted to flip them. Are the words his or yours? -
31 Ks away from Walsh's single season record. Let's do it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) Unless you are trying to get under a White Sox fan's skin, why would someone go to Soxtalk to praise and discuss Cubs baseball? Because it's a relevant baseball story and Soxtalk is where they go to discuss baseball?

Johnson, Montas, Brantly, & Leury Garcia recalled.

Also, Anderson's been dealing with an injury and is playing a lot of DH. So yeah, not a good idea. Not to worry, it's not happening anyway. -
Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
3GamesToLove replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I know this is an old thread that no longer has anything to do with Tony Stewart, but the correct word choice in the title is "purposely," but "purposefully." -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) Why? What Jose Abreu said. (the poster, at least. I'm not sure if Jose Abreu the player has any opinions on White Sox player development) -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 07:07 AM) I wish the Sox would bring Anderson up for September. I know it won't happen, but it would be nice to see if they can move forward with him at short next year. That would be a bad idea. -
Is Chris Sale the best pitcher that the Sox have ever had?
3GamesToLove replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) His main argument was his WAR, but I don't think a 20 WAR player is HOF material. Does your friend know what WAR is? I'm honestly flabbergasted. This has to be top five dumb baseball opinions I've ever heard.
