  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 06:25 AM) Pretty emotional for me. I've now seen my favorite white sox player ever (Big Frank) and my favorite overall player ever (Griffey Jr.) get in in consecutive years. Pssst...Frank was inducted in '14.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Before Bonds got on the steroids, Frank Thomas was a better hitter. Through their age 32 season (the last season before Frank started a seemingly never ending string of injuries and the end of what is normally considered 'prime' for a player) Bonds - .289/.408/.551, 374 HRs, 1094 RBIs, 359 2Bs, 1227 BBs, 958 Ks in 7403 PAs Thomas - .321/.440/.579, 344 HRs, 1183 RBIs, 361 2Bs, 1188 BBs, 835 Ks in 6799 PAs If Thomas had the same number of PAs he would have had 375 HRs, 1288 RBIs, 393 2Bs, 1294 BBs, 909 Ks So Frank had a higher average, higher OBP, higher SLG, higher HR rate, higher RBI rate, higher 2B rate, higher walk rate and lower strikeout rate. How was prime, pre-steroid Bonds a better hitter than prime Frank Thomas again? Where in my post did I say "pre-steroid suspicion Barry Bonds?"
  3. Give Cespedes a five or six year deal with an opt-out.
  4. Damn. That's not a bad price.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:38 AM) You'd have to argue Ramirez and Miggy are the two best overall hitters (hitting for both high average and power) of the last two decades of players. Bonds has to be somewhere in that conversation as well, depending on how you view him. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 06:12 AM) Bonds >>>>> Ramirez and Miggy. There is no conversation Seriously. Bonds is the best offensive player since Ted Williams, and it's not even close. Also, funny that you qualify Bonds with "depending on how you view him," but include no such disclaimer for Manny, who actually tested positive twice. Also, like Hawk always does, you forgot Albert Pujols. And a guy named Frank Thomas, depending on where you delineate "the last two decades of players."
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) Who goes to the ceremony representing the Expos with Raines if he gets in? It can't be Loria or John Henry...one would hope. Jonah Keri.
  7. QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 3, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) My source tells me the Sox are interested but only on a three year deal. You can always tell a fake Heyman account from its use of capital letters.
  8. heyman from cbs on open market, should attract suitors but nothing close yet
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) Why would I be writing from the perspective of a Cincy sports columnist? It's also a lot easier to get italics and bold to function with a pc compared with an ipad for some strange reason. I couldn't tell until halfway through that it wasn't your own writing...that's why.
  10. Does it touch on his DUI? I only ask because you said it "pulls no punches."
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:55 PM) In fairness to Cobb, it should be noted, that fan had a condition which caused him to spit uncontrollably. Cobb didn't know this and when the guy spit on him because of his condition Cobb reacted as he did. Mark Where are you getting this from? Every source I'm finding is saying that he was physically disabled (had lost one hand and most of the other in a printing press accident) and had been heckling the Tigers.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 02:01 AM) Fans didn't love Todd Frazier because of his numbers, though his numbers were good enough. They loved him for his spirit. To fans, Frazier was not a line item on a balance sheet. He wasn't a clean set of digits all in a row, given meaning by odd acronyms such as WAR and OPS and the delightful-sounding BABIP. Fans here didn't quantify Frazier or study him like he was an equation or mine his statistics for undiscovered lodes of "value''. They just enjoyed him. On and off the field. He gave them a reason to smile. And go to the ballpark. ... Todd Frazier brought fans in, because they thought they knew him and they liked what they thought they knew. Ditto Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce. Frazier wasn't numbers. Frazier was family. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/col...-fans/77627880/ Try using quotation marks, dude.
  13. This isn't exactly the right thread, but I thought you may be the group to help me the most on this... For my dad's 60th birthday, my fiancee and I are looking at getting him tickets to a Wolves-Icehogs game. He's really gotten (back) into hockey over the last seven years like everyone else, but obviously Hawks tickets are way out of our budget. I thought seeing the Hawks affiliate in Rosemont would be a good idea. I don't follow hockey at all and don't particularly care for it--I've been to a couple of Wolves games but those were both in the 90s. Where in the Allstate Arena is the best place to sit for hockey? Let's assume the glass seats are sold out all around. Are the next couple of rows good? I've read in some places that it's best to be a few rows up so you get a better view of the ice. How wide of a berth should I give around the benches? I've heard that for sightlines, upper level might actually be the best, but I'd like to get him something closer if possible. Any recommendations, either at the Allstate Arena in particular or hockey in general?
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) I wonder if we'll get a flashback to Mara Jade as Rey's mother - it'd explain both why Luke vanished and why Rey is even more powerful. It's been three years and people are still clinging to this EU stuff? I promise you that Mara Jade will not be in this film.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Haven't really asked about what Frazier can provide Do they have to? It's pretty obvious.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) hometown kid, homegrown kid, little league WS hero, HR derby winner. They absolutely loved him Uh. Born in Jersey, grew up in Jersey, played college ball in Jersey (Rutgers.)
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) How so? Cespedes: DWAR+0.7, WAR +6.3 in 2015 Upton: DWAR+0.2, WAR +4.4 in 2015 Age, track record beyond one season.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:22 AM) This is incredible if true, as you get Frazier without giving up Anderson, Fulmer or Rodon. We all knew Micah Johnson had no future with the Sox, and Montas is sure more likely to be a reliever. Or Quintana.
  19. If the Sox DO get Ethier as well, especially with some cash, then this is a great deal. Without Ethier, it's more of a mixed bag.
  20. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Who's this guy? Carlos May's nephew, I believe. Rumored to have both thumbs.
  21. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) The list of candidates has been put out there. Like mentioned, probably going to be a year of musical chairs. Good list. My money's on Frank Owen or Wiley Piatt.
  22. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 07:10 AM) Sappiest comment of the century. He used to be on WSI. (may still be, I was banned last year) He would post this any time anyone posted a topic that involved marriage. Or at least, I assume it's the same guy. Unless there are multiple Sox fans who have the exact same saying on marriage that they post on Sox boards.
