My reaction was what is next? I am no prospect lover, but they have to keep going if they are trying to win. They cannot stop here, or they lose the trade. If they do and fall short, whether you love Trayce, Micah, and Montas, hate them or are indifferent, it makes no sense to trade them for a guy who will be around 2 years, if you are going to be a .500 or so team. You need to do whatever you can to get into the playoffs. Now it is about spending some money. Spend it JR. Get the guy that will take you over the top, and melt the doom and gloomers like the Wicked Witch of the West. Then it is a huge White Sox win.

well, i have been reading and waiting for the smoke to clear. the sox finally got their man. the cost i can live with, but really do i have any say on that???\

 

it is a confusing trade, not the cincy part but the sox and dodgers part.

 

the sox gave up mj, tt a montas. mj will replace dodger 2b, tt will replace their 4th of and well montas will replace a nice 3b prospect.

 

so why involve cincy???

 

i like 2 or the 3 players are sending to cincy, my neg of the dodger side is scott. i would love their 2b and 3b prospects and have written mock trades with those 2 names involve.

 

what i see, the sox wanted and needed a 3b who is also establish in the majors. so the trade was for the now and not for the future. the could have gotten their 2b and 3b prospects and really address the future of the infield but they want to now win .

 

dodger got a really cost effective rp to be brought in, i bet mid season and ready for the playoff. also it reaffirms my idea of that they, the dodgers want to be more cost conscience.

 

at the end, cincy got their promising 2b and 3b prospects. that in itself should prove the win now cost at this time of the sox.

A few weeks ago, the Mariners were making "Win now" moves and people said "what on Earth are they doing"? The Tigers made their "win now moves" and people shrugged because they don't have the team or organization around them to support winning with those guys. I put us in exactly that same boat, continuing to sacrifice the long term on bets that "This team is ready to win right now", which to me, is exactly how we've gotten the last 5+ seasons.

Given what was lost and what was gained, I love it for the Sox and Dodgers. Poor job by the Reds.

I don't think you can grade this trade without seeing what else the front office has planned for the offseason.

 

I fully expect the Sox to aggressively pursue Cespedes, Gordon or Upton and land one of those three players in order for the Frazier deal to make more sense. You have Chris Sale and Jose Abreu locked up and in their primes...don't waste that opportunity.

 

With Danks and LaRoche coming off the books after this season the White Sox should have money to spend to land another bat to get this team competitive.

I think the Reds/Dodgers need to be separated. The Dodgers are clearly winners in this trade. Their involvement in it at all is really perplexing.

you like many others want to judge the trade at face value. and at face value i have stated the frazier provides what the sox have been searching for, and the price is ok with me.

 

but there is alot of smoke around the edges of this trade that i am looking at, the long term possibilities of this.

 

the positives followed by a negative.

 

they will now compete on close to equal footing with the northiside.

if they address both their of'er and dh. (screw this b/s of laroche)

keeping this sp rotation in tact without trading anyone

needing to sign and additional sp

great offense on the 2b and 3b

they will need to bring in alexei - ss.

Sums it up quite well. Anybody saying the Sox aren't the clear winner here is nuts.

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is the current value of all those involved. The results-oriented view can be flawed. If the Angels traded Mike Trout tomorrow for some guy drafted in the 37th round, and Trout became crippled in a freak accident the next day, while the 37th rounder became a HOF, that was still a stupid trade.
