QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 15, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) The whole point it appears you are trying to make is that the manager should make personal decisions and that is absolutely not the case for any team in baseball. Anyone should be allowed to make personal decisions for themselves. Personnel decisions is another matter entirely.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) That should be interesting. Curious how he does. Could he get a more recurring gig or be groomed to come back. Maybe him and AJ in the booth together in a few years, haha. It would be so White Sox to forego a broadcast professional again for their next booth. QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ May 14, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) I believe Steve Stone's absence at the series in Oakland was planned in advance. In recent seasons, I recall Steve always skips a few series on the road. Previously, Tom Paciorek was the substitute during Steve's planned absences. I always liked Wimpy together with Hawk. Stone and Wimpy were decent together for those games when Hawk was in Cooperstown last year (and maybe another series?). Because they're actually having a conversation about baseball. Radical concept for the TV booth.

WMVP's signal was awful. I'm from Oswego and it was a nightmare. Live in rural Kane County now and it's a little better but not much.

Friend and I have tickets for tomorrow--I used my vouchers from last year's Fan Appreciation Day. Went with the $5 upgrade for outfield reserved... Two games in the lower level for $5 a seat? Can't beat that. Bring it on.

Damn; I've wanted to see Votto play for years. I saw the Reds play at Wrigley a few years ago and he was out then, too.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Honestly, everyone on this board knows exactly what that post is referencing, including you yourself. I'm sure you feel very smart right now though. I was just confused by the term "unbalanced" as I hadn't heard that used before to refer to the schedule changes wrought by the balancing of the leagues.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Back in the days before unbalanced schedules, we could have pointed to June's interleague run and thought we could get back on track. Something like 2010's 22-7 run. Oh well. ? The schedule has been unbalanced since 1969's realignment...long before interleague came around.

QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 11:24 AM) They stopped that last year. You can't leave until after 1st pitch. I ate a bunch of $7 seats to get multiple bobbles. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 30, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) They will let you re-enter as long as you have more than one ticket. They closed the loophole for the team store and bar. I had 13 tickets for konerko card day last year. Walked in 13 times and got 13 cards So uh... Why?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Thats nice. the first good stretch he has had since he joined Cleveland. He was pretty good in 2013. -
Arbitrary endpoints!

It's very difficult to just move a game to an alternate site on short notice. There are staffing issues and ticketing problems. It might seem the perfect solution, but there are hoops to jump through.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) I don't like the comparisons because of age. I want to see their age comparisons stat wise. Frank's age 27 season: .308/.454/.606, 179 OPS+, 168 wRC+ Abreu's age 27 season: .317/.383/.581, 170 OPS+, 167 wRC+ That was Frank's worst wRC+ to that point, hilariously.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) As if I needed more reasons to love Chris Sale, him banging on the Royals clubhouse to get to Volquez (so the rumor seems to be) makes me love him even more. For so long it seemed the Sox played without that heart and fire you see on other teams. I think you mean Ventura. And nah, it's dumb. I love Chris Sale as a pitcher, but this stuff is dumb.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Frank's OBP was just just insane during that time. Good lord. It feels like every time a Sox player who can hit a bit comes up, people try to compare him to Thomas. I remember Hawk said it about Carlos Lee and some morons on another site did it with Viciedo in 2010. You just can't. You can count the right-handed hitters in baseball history who are comparable to him on one hand. We will likely never see another hitter Sox as good as Thomas in our lifetimes. I doubt Giants fans compare every young power-hitting outfielder to Mays or Bonds. It's silly.

I think I would buy a shirsey if the Sox could acquire Adrian Beltre. I wonder how many fans realize that the guy's numbers are first ballot HOF.
-
This is a much "smaller" pick-up and I'd imagine a lot of people won't like it, but the Sox could do worse than Aramis Ramirez. He's off to a bad start but his defense isn't any worse than Gillaspie's and he could DH against lefties. He's announced he's retiring after this year.

White Sox tried to purchase Babe Ruth

QUOTE (black jack @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 06:01 AM) Ruth would've been banned from baseball after the 19 season. Say it aint so Babe! Mindblowing. -
QUOTE (OnlyGillis @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 10:47 PM) Exactly. 2/3 of fans today have no clue about baseball history pre-90s. That's funny, because the "Winning Ugly" team has SO MUCH NOSTALGIA.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) I sit corrected. Poor word choice by the English teacher. We history teachers always get a kick out of correcting English teachers.

I have tickets for Sunday so it'll be cool to see the resumption of Friday's game. Gonna make sure I bundle up. Supposed to be sunny, so that should make a difference.
-
I love how the people who wax nostalgic about Old Comiskey are often the same people who whine about the new park's location.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) I have always been a huge Baines fan. His class and professionalism was always top tier. I wish injuries hadn't shortened his career. Obviously injuries affected his career, but shortened? The guy is in the top twenty of all-time games played!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 4m4 minutes ago Big Hurt leads White Sox Franchise Four balloting http://atmlb.com/1yTaVjZ via @mlb Konerko in second place. Hilarious.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Its everyone in the lineup thats causing the offense not to be good. Stat on jose. He's had 31 runners on base when he's come to the plate. He has 9 rbi's but he also has 4 homers so take away the 4 rbis he's driven himself in and he's only driven in 5 runners of the 31 that's been on base in front of him. That's 16% of runners he's driving in. Very statistically rigorous. How does this compare to the avearage hitter?
