  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) Looking at the replay, I don't think Eaton knew it was a homer. Looks like he started running after Abreu once he (Eaton) crossed home. Adam Eaton is a f***in' insane weirdo. Sprinting to first after a walk, using "This Is How We Do It" as his walkup... I love it.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) I laughed at this line... Nothing like some good old anti-intellectualism.
  3. QUOTE (bshah723 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Can you Explain the Cubs being bad hurts the sox theory? The Cubs are the area's most popular baseball team. It's just a fact. When the Cubs are doing well, it gets the area in general more excited about baseball and puts the sport front and center in the local conversation, rather than silly Bears training camp countdowns. More people being excited about baseball means that they just want to see a baseball game, and the casual types and families who find it's simpler and more affordable to get Sox tickets (and not having to worry about restricted view and all that) see a game wherever. I wouldn't be surprised if in the last decade or so the Cougars see an increase in attendance in a season where one or both MLB teams are doing well, too.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) Maybe, but at the age of 79 ... wow. He was in control of the Pads' broadcast. He had his color man's full attention. His eyesight and ability to pick up the ball and the play was awesome. I just kept thinking about some people barely able to move at 79 and Enberg calling baseball games. He actually seemed like he was looking forward to coming back to the park early Sunday for a day game after a night game. Crazy. I want whatever he's done to be this sharp at the age of 79. Remember that he's not the only guy doing this. Uecker and Scully are both in the 80s, though they've reduced their travel schedules.
  5. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) Is the 100 level policy in effect this year? I went to the game on Friday and they didn't check our tickets to the 100 level. They didn't check for me either, on Friday... But they were definitely policing on Saturday, and the UD tickets still say "upper level only" on them.
  6. I LOVE the revival of the '08 Detroit grand slam celebration. LOVE IT.
  7. It's a good thing both Paulie and Dunn are off the books after this year, because I think we've found our next DH.
  8. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) I'm not a real big fan of Steve Stone as a pbp guy. Love him as color, but just not really feeling it today. He's so much better without Hawk, though. He's usually so stifled. Whenever he's working with a stand-in, an actual conversation happens.
  9. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) As far as other stadiums that keep people out of the rest of the stadium, I sat in the bleachers at New Yankee Stadium in 2009 and did not have access to the lower levels or rest of the park. They literally had giant cage like doors denying access from the bleacher section. Would have been cool to see the rest of the park, but whatever. Me and my buddies got kicked out of the park for heckling Rios when he was still a Blue Jay right before Mo came on to pitch the 9th, that kinda sucked. I also went to Yankee Stadium in 2009. My friends and I sat in the upper deck. We did the whole Monument Park/museum thing right when the gates opened, and were also able to roam the park before the game started. Because we were leaving right from the stadium to come back home to Chicago, we watched the last inning or so from the center field bleachers. No problems whatsoever.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) Am listening to the Pods-Tigers game. The announcer Dick Enberg is 79 years old and sharp as hell. Crazy how the human body/brain works. Some people can be devastated by Alzheimer's, etc., and others like Dick Enberg ... 79 years old and sharp as a tack. Just listen to the Pods some night. He is amazing. He was describing a controversial out call at second base and immediately proclaimed, 'this won't take long to overturn' his eyes correctly assessing the play. How the hell can he be this sharp at 79? It's probably sports. Sports keep those involved in sports very young. While what I've heard of Enberg's Padres work is fine, I can tell you he definitely has lost a lot off of his fastball over the years. His last year doing Wimbledon and the US Open were a bit embarrassing.
  11. I bought these tickets a few weeks ago figuring it could be Sale's third start. Section 135 row 14. Pretty sure those'll be the best seats I've ever had. Cannot wait.
  12. Go on Ticketmaster and you can see exactly how many tickets are still available and where.
  13. This is the second game I've watched in the last 16 hours or so where both teams have worn alternate tops. Spring training redux.
  14. The original press release for the Opening Series said that for OD, upper deck ticket holders wouldn't be allowed in the 100 level. Some interpreted this as suggesting that the general policy might be gone this year. Can anyone who sat 500 level on Wednesday or Thursday comment?
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) DeAza leads the league in HR. Leads the majors in home runs.
  16. The White Sox have given me free tickets to three games this April (plus one last September).
  17. Whatever; I'm used to watching sports at really bizarre hours so I think it's pretty cool.
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 01:31 AM) To be fair, cell phone coverage is HORRENDOUS is a ballpark named after a cell phone company. It would probably be quicker to check twitter by walking to this new place and check it out versus looking on your phone. Which reminds me...instead of spending the money on this, can we just have money to put in to infrastructure for cell coverage? QUOTE (Whitey @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 02:30 AM) I thought the cell had open wifi throughout the park, no? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 07:07 AM) They do I've never been able to actually get connected to it. The site never pops up for me.
  19. Who else is waking up with me to watch the opener in Australia at 3am Saturday morning? I wake up around that time for the Australian Open multiple times each year so I figure what the hell.
  20. I'm home on a Thursday night for the first time since December and TNT doesn't even have NBA tonight, and nor does ESPN or NBATV for that matter.
  21. I try to get to a Bulls game every year, and my girlfriend and I were just at the game against the Warriors a few weeks ago (bought them back in November). We had a really great time and after watching that Heat game we decided to plunk down for some 300s against the Pacers too. I've literally never been to a close Bulls game--always been a blowout one way or the other. I'm excited for this game; what will be their last game against a good conference opponent. I see it's also Rose bobblehead night, "while supplies remain." What does this mean? I'm used to the Sox where they only have 10-20k and you need to be there pretty early. What are the usual quantities for Bulls giveaways?
  22. Kershaw makes a regular season start in Sydney in less than a week so I imagine he'll be pretty stretched out here.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) Remember that almost perfect game he had? I totally remember that. It was in August or September 2011? Against the Mets, I want to say?
  24. They've been streaming these games for years, and up until this point the quality has just gotten better and better. Why are they so crappy so far this spring?
