  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 07:02 AM) Yeah, 70 lbs. The splayed fingers look weird. Is it just me?
  2. You'd really choose to listen to either one of our broadcast teams in a situation where it's not at all necessary?
  3. The hell? These webcats are usually REALLY good. What's up with teh slomo?
  4. Gene, any codes for Saturday August 31st (TLR bobblehead)? Didn't see them on the special events page
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) Man, Soxtalk is some front runners We have plenty of mediocre favorite Sox players; I see nothing wrong with enjoying watching the best in the game ply their trade.
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) Alex Rios and Carlos Quentin. I hate Mark Buehrle and hope he never wears a White Sox uniform again. Well, that seems a little strong.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) Awesome, and I'm guessing hotels weren't too bad in Cincinnati either. From your experience would I need to be ready to jump on tickets on March 3rd or will there be time to put this together? If you're planning on going later in the week then you should probably buy earlier (spring), but if you're going earlier in the week you can probably wait until the summer. Hotels aren't bad; one thing to keep in mind is that it's actually held in the town of Mason to the northeast, about 30,000 people. I stayed at a Best Western for about $70 a night. I do highly recommend going earlier in the week, by the way. If you're a tennis diehard Monday is awesome, but Tuesday and Wednesday are great too because that's when the top guys all start playing. On Monday you'll still be able to see those guys practicing, which is the closest you'll get to the top players unless you pay a fortune for courtside center court. Earlier in the week is better because there's tennis going on on 9-10 courts and you can get ridiculously close even to some top players. Your ticket will get you general admission to every court except Center, which you'll have an assigned seat for.
  8. Trout, Longoria...I'm sure there are others I can't recall.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 12:33 AM) Has anyone been to sw open in cincy and how expensive were tix? Also Federe is still better than Nadal for sheer creativity and beauty that is unmatched. I went last year, Monday-Wednesday. Amazing experience with terrific access to players (you get to see just about everybody up close), can't recommend it more highly.. Each session was between $35-60 for those days, I think. On sale to general public March 3rd.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) I'm a couple hundred miles outside their range. Really? I was able to get it in Iowa City pretty okay, and even in Pittsburgh I could vaguely make out the play by play.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) I am going to be on the road on my way to a Dr. Appt. at 2pm. Recording MLBN at home though, so I'll get to see it later. I'm sure it'll be covered by The Score.
  12. I used to listen to the Score a lot, but now that I have SiriusXM I rarely find myself tuning back in. I stick with the MLB, soccer, and now NBA-specific talk channels.
  13. I've heard nobody say that "Abreu has a good glove at 1B."
  14. So, Sale gets a full week between starts.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Well, maybe not today. 42 QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 11:27 AM) Does every player still wear #42? I thought they had changed that it was optional, only players who requested the number wore it? You actually have it backwards--originally it was optional, but everyone's worn it since 2009.
  16. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 07:17 AM) Dunn has a .186 Batting Average in his 977 at bats in a Sox uniform. That's a big enough sample size for me. 1,000 at bats is enough to evaluate even a rookie. It's certainly enough to evaluate a veteran. I've said it before; this team is not a playoff contender with him batting anywhere in the heart of the order. Manto has to get him to change his approach. It just isn't working. Choke up, use left field more, shorten the long swing, or try anything else. If someone would take most of that contract, I'd much prefer that he be off this roster. Grady Sizemore for the second half of the season is looking more intriguing to me, every day. Move Viciedo to DH, put Sizemore in CF, and de Aza in LF. Lineup: de Aza Keppinger Rios Sizemore Konerko Viciedo Ramirez Flowers Beckham (when he comes back) Uh...what...?
  17. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 10:19 AM) My birthday is December 23. For my 17th birthday I received a Brandon McCarthy jersey. I turned 17 in 2006. "December 23, 2006: Traded by the Chicago White Sox with David Paisano (minors) to the Texas Rangers for Jacob Rasner (minors), John Danks and Nick Masset." Surely you could've gotten it exchanged?
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 11:31 PM) There are so many Beckham jerseys out there. Opening Day they were everywhere. So many people stuck with a bad jersey from years ago. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 11:33 PM) I own a Brandon McCarthy jersey, and I know someone that owns a Joe Borchard jersey. Don't do it, at least not for a long time. Although I did buy a Buehrle jersey in 2001 before anyone had one (his brother told me at a Cubs game is was the first one he had seen and asked me how I got it), and that worked out OK, but it's really rolling the dice. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 12:22 AM) Haha, I know ALL about this. I have a Sammy Sosa grey road Sox jersey that I bought during his rookie season. Other than that, I've done okay. Harold Baines...and Darryl Strawberry/Mets wasn't a great choice in the long term. Yeah, this is why I don't buy jerseys. ), I don't see really where/when I'd wear them outside of games 2) they're expensive, and 3) there's too good a chance you'll get stuck with a bad one. I got a jersey t-shirt for Beckham at the beginning of 2011 because he seemed to have finally turned the corner, but we all know how that worked out. Picked up a Sale one (one of the new gray ones, awesome) last Wednesday.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 07:42 AM) I like the Nats guys on TV as well. I'll be listening to Hawk though, of course. I liked the Mets guys one day, too, just because they sounded so New York-y. In general, I don't hate the Nats. They're not the most major market, the players are fairly likable, etc If I lived out of market, I would opt for the opposing team's feed at least 60-70% of the time.
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) I watched a lot of their games last year, when they Sox weren't playing cause they were (still are) a fun team to watch. I must say I like they're announcing team. Will probably listen to them over Hawk on MLB.TV. I like following them as well, in addition to the Rays (like the way the organization is run, Joe Maddon, and a lot of the players), Angels (Trout fanboy) and Giants (this one goes back to my childhood and has endured for a multitude of reasons). I have evening rehearsals for a musical this summer in June, July and August so I miss a good deal of Sox games. Decided to finally invest in mlb.tv in large part so I could catch the West coast games when I get home. It'll be a good amount of Angels and Giants (including the soothing tones of Jon Miller), plus plenty of Dodgers due to the Scully factor. EDIT: And, yeah, both the Nats' TV and radio crews are pretty decent
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) Who do we have going for Wednesday? I'll be there. Floyd. Unfortunately I'm busy all three nights of this series--might just catch the last inning or two of Tuesday/Wednesday on my drive home.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 07:04 AM) White Sox’s 44th win via walk-off home run since the park opened in 1991 The Mariners have lost by walk-off homers three times at U.S. Cellular. But this was the ninth time the White Sox have beaten them with a walk-off hit. The other two were also in April. 2010--Andruw Jones on the Friday night, Alex Rios on FOX's Saturday game. David Aardsma just walked directly into the dugout after seeing the ball go off Rios's bat.
  23. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Why would a players defensive position have a bearing on how they should perform in offense? Why would a 3B be expected to hit more or less homers than someone playing another defensive position? This is a good question--I'll do my best to explain it. Since first base, for example, requires a little less quickness and athleticism, you often get a lot of power hitters emerge at the position. So, the average first baseman might have a rather high slugging percentage, compared to, say, a shortstop or second baseman. The question is about value--if you have someone at shortstop, or second base, or catcher with great power, that's a huge upgrade--it's power from an unexpected position. A .280, 25 homer season from a first baseman might be seen as somewhat pedestrian because it's close to the average for a first baseman, whereas if you got that from a middle infielder, it's a huge bonus. You see this debate unfold when talking about a great-hitting catcher like Buster Posey. His numbers are tremendous for a catcher! But, if/when he moves to first base, his value could drop because that kind of production from first base would be expected. He could be blocking a good-hitting first baseman. Posey at catcher + average-hitting first baseman would be better production than average-hitting catcher + Posey at first base.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 04:29 AM) http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/ra...d-pasts/2110921 Another form of Moneyball, played by the Rays. The White Sox have been right out there over the last decade, taking numerous similar chances of their own. Of course, it didn't work so well with Swisher, O-Cab or Javy, for it usually has. There have been notable misses, like Albert Belle or David Wells, though. Which reminds me--anyone read Jonah Keri's The Extra 2%? It focuses on how the Rays ownership and front office rescued the franchise from obscurity. It's a quick read--not quite as readable as Moneyball as it gets very into Wall Street and financial strategies...but I enjoyed it because I remember the '08 Rays a lot better than I remember the '02 Athletics.
