  1. I agree. But he might end up a casualty of the roster crunch. I’d rather get rid of Delmonico or Leury than Cordell, just due to curiosity. But I’m sure that’s an unpopular opinion on this board. He didn’t exactly leave a lasting impression in his short callup.
  2. Cordell was once fairly touted. He had some bad luck with injuries the past two seasons. I wouldn’t shut the door on him yet, but I’d expect he’s far more likely to be a player in the same value mold as Delmonico, Engel, Leury, Sanchez, Tilson. Guys that are ok, and more than likely do not have a place during the window of contention. Edit: He’s actually who I would expect to be DFA’d for Machado. Only other guys that really standout would be Garcia or Delmonico. There are far too many OF’s on the 40 right now.
  3. I went with Keppinger. Guy was just completely useless and broken. I absolutely despise Teahen, but at least he showed up everyday and played... badly. Is it bad I have a signed game used Gillaspie bat? I always liked Mr. Serious.
  4. Assuming the Sox land Machado, I kind of think it would be cool for Harper to go back to the Nats. It would be nice to see another superstar potentially go the length of their career with the same organization. We never get to see that anymore.
  5. I actually think it works better with the current luxury tax (with MUCH steeper penalties like loss of 1st round pick). A salary cap is going to limit dollar amounts and cash flow even further than it already is. That accomplishes the complete opposite of what we’re trying to fix. It will not increase more money going to the players. Plus the union will never agree to a cap. If you implement a cap, you almost have to implement non-guaranteed contracts - another thing the union is never going to budge on.
  6. It’s not entirely the owners fault though. It’s how the system works and they are completely taking advantage of it. The players union negotiated a bad deal and now they are paying for it. Teams are a lot smarter too thanks to all the advance metrics that prove a lot of players were being overpaid for their services. I actually think the market is correcting itself in an odd way. I would like to see a system implemented that models restricted and unrestricted free agents. Make it replace the arbitration system. I think that would be a good compromise that forces teams to better pay the young studs or risk losing them. Also places a timeframe to get these deals done before real free agency hits. It would help take the money the older players aren’t seeing anymore and pump it back into the system only earlier.
  7. I think you quoted the wrong person, or I posted something I have no memory of typing, hahahaahhahahaha
  8. I don’t think it’s very realistic at all, and honestly I’m fine with that. Signing one or the other is a massive win for the offseason. Use the rest of the payroll space next offseason and co to use from there. Only other move I’d like to see is another starter added. Maybe get Gio on a 1 yr. deal or something.
  9. Personally I think Bob’s $200M comment is an effort to prevent Philly from upping their offer too much.
  10. This guy is such a douche. You think by now these players would realize when the spotlight is on you, stay the hell away from social media. Such a weird story.
  11. 1. Moncada, 2B 2. Harper, RF 3. Machado, 3B 4. Abreu, DH 5. Jimenez, LF 6. Alonso, 1B 7. Castillo, C 8. Anderson, SS 9. Jay, CF
  12. Nice find. I find it hard to believe he nailed the Castillo terms on a whim. Pretty impressive. Hopefully the Machado rumors is true.
  13. I saw this but decided against posting it. I thought the guy looked like a fake. Check this tweet out from 12/20:
  14. I nearly fell out of my chair when I read "BREAKING: .........." only to find it followed by Grandal.
  15. I got bored. Figured we were all going to need this. Nothing special, but it'll suffice.
  16. Yep. Trying to get closer to $300M. If... sorry, WHEN... the Sox pull this off. If it is for 7 years, do we still think there is going to be an opt out in there? Seems a little risky throwing one in there after year 4, and that's really the only logical place to put one on a "shorter" term deal.
  17. He's going to sit the year out? GMAFB. He'll get less offered even then because that's one less year, or few games.
  18. Even if the Phillies go slightly more than the Sox, Alonso + Jay have to help make up for that right? Curiously, which city is better for taxes? Anyone know what the difference would be?
  19. Still nice to see that the other side of the aisle is also having uncertainties regarding Manny.
  20. If not the Red Sox, where the hell is he going to go? It's crazy that one of the greatest closers in the game doesn't have a market.
  21. SoxFest will absolutely be miserable to attend if this ends beforehand and they fail to get him.
  22. Well that seems more negative than what we got yesterday.
  23. The worst is when they interchangeably use “sign” and “trade” when discussing acquisitions. There is a huge difference between the two.
