White Sox winter meetings thread...
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) These De Aza & Viciedo rumors are both from a Tribune article last night. It was interesting that the article said Hahn was looking for prospects from Seattle for Viciedo. I'm not sure how much stock I'd put in Tribune published rumors, but they do support the notion that Hahn is willing to move quite a few players, including any of our outfielders, to improve the team one way or another. As for Upton, he's a great player but I'd be worried about the cost. If they're asking for Andrus plus from Texas, I don't want to know what it would cost us. Given the overall lack of talent in our organization, I'd rather risk big money on Hamilton then trade four or five good pieces for an area of organizational strength. I'd rather have Upton. If the Sox could somehow get Upton, without trading Sale, I think that would be a nice future to build on.

White Sox winter meetings thread...
I wonder if the Phillies would have interest in Rios. They need help in their outfield pretty bad. Now would be the time to sell high on Rios in case he forgets how to hit again or underachieve.

Gardenhire's last stand...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 09:36 PM) Didn't read the article, but I assume it's basically Gardenhire saying he might not be the man for the job and he understands if they relieve him of his duties if the team doesn't succeed this season. That's fine and dandy, but I honestly don't think the Twins brass will fire Gardenhire. Players love him, he's typically a pretty good in game manager, and it's not as if they're underachieving - they simply don't have the talent. In fact, the Twins as an organization have gone more than 26 years without firing a manager. Think about that for a second. Tom Kelly managed some absolutely terrible teams in the late 90s, managed them to a winning record in 2001, and then retired following the season. Oh, and Ryan was just rehired as GM in November of last year. He's not on the hotseat at all. Yeah, I doubt the Twins will fire him when they fill out the roster with AAAA/AAA players. You can't expect your team to win when there is zero talent.

White Sox winter meetings thread...
Even if Youk did have an issue with the attendance, he does realize that there really isn't many teams that sell out at the rate the Red Sox do, right? Other than maybe the Cubs and Yankees, what franchise can boast about sell-out crowds every single night?

Keppinger to Sox 3 yr deal
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) FanGraphs' take: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/w...an-ball-return/ I think that's probably the best way to put it. Beggars can't exactly be choosers right now with 3B. Hopefully the Sox draft a good 3B prospect in the next 2 years.

AJ Talk
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) Phil Rogers @ChiTribRogers According to executives with other teams, the Yankees are in talks to sign A.J. Pierzynski. Certainly seems like a good fit for both sides. https://twitter.com/ChiTribRogers I am still not looking forward to the Flowers era. Of all teams, why does it have to be the Yankees. I realize it a good fit, but I hate when one of my favorite players moves to my least favorite team.

Sox looking at low-end starter, trading Floyd
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 30, 2012 -> 01:05 AM) Porcello? Maybe, but I doubt Detroit would do that. Unless they could sign Sanchez, but he's looking for 5 years. IDK if Detroit would or could do that.

Sox looking at low-end starter, trading Floyd
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 30, 2012 -> 12:09 AM) Hochevar's pretty bad. But his K/BB isn't that bad. He just tends to serve up homers, which just doesn't work at the Cell and doesn't make much sense either since he's typically a ground ball pitcher. Maybe Coop can work his magic?

Sox face contract deadline on Friday
Too bad for Humber. I bet if you told him after throwing that perfecto he'd be DFA in the offseason he would have thought you were crazy.

White Sox in on Mike Adams?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) We have plenty of bad relievers. I'd be all for a total reshuffling of the bullpen. I wish we'd trade some of the current parts basically for anybody else. I like Reed. The rest of the guys are all a dime a dozen or worse IMO. Nobody is reliable besides Reed. By reliable I mean by old White Sox standards. Guys who can get people out. You don't think Jones will be a quality middle reliever? He seemed to be the only sure thing out of the pen the last month of the season or so.

White Sox in on Mike Adams?
Maybe they are looking at him to close? Signing him may make Reed available. I like Reed and would like to see him stay, but he might be able to get the Sox a good package if traded with someone like Floyd. The Sox seem to be able to pump out relievers like no other from the minors, Reed may be expendable.

Things been quiet
QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) Seems like Hahn is doing what KW never seemed to do. Dealing at the Winter Meetings and not before... Unless the team is done already haha I hope not. It would be nice to see some type of improvement, even if it's just to the farm. There's no way Hahn is fine with Morel at 3B. I refuse to believe it, lol.

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 12:00 AM) Here a thought (More sarcastic and for a laugh but what the heck). What about Mark Reynolds? His option was declined but he is still Arb eligible. I know with Dunn and him you are guaranteed almost 400 K's a year but he does average 25-30 HR's a year and for one year at a decent price (4-5 million) wouldn't he be worth the risk of a stopgap? Link: http://www.masnsports.com/school_of_roch/2...th-orioles.html? He's supposed to be AWFUL with the glove.

Scott Carroll to Have TJ Surgery
Looks like he's set for TJ Surgery this offseason if anyone cares. He didn't exactly have a very good or impressive year, and it looks like he's going to miss all of next year.

First big move of the offseason prediction contest
The Sox trade Gordon Beckham to the Blue Jays for J.P. Arencibia. Makes sense as it fits a need for both teams. I'll assume the Sox include another guy in the deal as well because I don't think Beckham is enough to get Arencibia alone.

4 Sox players are on the trading block
I don't know if this name has been mentioned, but what about Bourn? Signing him make De Aza expendable, and he's a LH bat with great CF defense. I don't know how much he could command on the market though, just throwing ideas around.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Then you have no respect what-so-ever for somewhere around half of MLB. PEDs are everywhere in baseball. That's right, I don't. I don't like to think that some of my favorite players are PED users, but I realize the hard truth is that a lot of them are. If you ask me, MLB is too lenient with the current disciplinary system and is too scared to drop the hammer on some of the MLB's biggest stars.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) Well, he'd be done with the Sox IF this is true so I think it would make it easier to never cheer for him again. I realize that, but it would still leave that sour taste in my mouth after cheering for him over the years. He's been one of my favorite position players over the last few years.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) This would truly be disheartening and a punch in the gut to all Sox fans and the organization as a whole. Personally if true I would hope the Sox make an example out of him and release him outright for putting his personal agenda before the teams. Sorry, I have no sympathy for players who continue to try to cheat their way to a paycheck, and find it even more alarming how dumb they are to keep trying to get away with it. Normally a name doesnt have an affect on me, but when its your team its an embarassment. All that being said hope this is just someone making a muck over a disliked player. AJ has been a favorite of mine for years, so for now ill give him the benefit of the doubt until its official. But there is an awful lot of whispers out there. +1 I love A.J. but if this turns out to be true, I'm done with him. I have no respect what-so-ever for players that use PED's.

Talk about awful news if true. I really hope this is wrong and remains a rumor.

Carlos Sanchez promoted to AAA
He seems like a good number 2 hitter. Gordon's gotta feel the pressure a little. I like the way he plays defense, but if Sanchez is good with the glove and can hit .280, I don't see how the Sox can not go with him over Beckham next year. Not right away, but if Beckham blows like he has the first half, he's in trouble. Even if it is an empty .280 AVG, that looks way better at what is currently in the 9th spot.

2012 Minor League Catch All thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) Tommy Viola @Tommy_the_V Today's @KnightsBaseball roster moves: Justin Greene back from Birmingham, Damaso Espino activated off the DL, and Jose Lopez a Knight. I think that's a good move by the Sox to get Lopez. He's much better option in September off the bench than Olmedo is, hitting wise at least.

Waiver Wire Thread?
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 10:09 PM) Robin started Olmedo over Hudson today, what does that tell you? Olmedo can play more positions than Hudson anyway. Mike Fontenot should replace Hudson on the roster like yesterday. I took that as Olmedo has been on this team since 7/29 and played in a whopping 1 game, and as a pinch runner. Robin was probably just giving him some playing time.

8/6 Games
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) Sanchez just turned 20 years old and already is walking at a 53-per-162-game season clip. Whereas Escobar couldn't hit a lick, Sanchez is proving he can while also showing solid patience at the plate. The guy has a very bright future, most likely at second base where he can be an above-average offensive second baseman. He seems like a perfect leadoff or number two hitter. I view Sanchez as the Sox version of Jose Altuve. They seem pretty similar in my opinion.

3B Jeff Baisley was released too. That clears a spot for Wise.
