  1. If this was true, I'd make that deal. Man, trading for Gallen and somehow coming away with Rendon with Moncada back to 2B would be amazing. I really like Madrigal, but Gallen is legit good IMO.
  2. Interesting. Seems like this is a yearly occurrence the past few years. He is out of options, so the Sox will have to try to sneak him through waivers if the want to let him get work in Charlotte.
  3. Then wait a year and get him next offseason. Everyone on this board hated the idea of trading for Machado for 3 months, but loves the idea of Betts? It doesn’t make sense to give the Red Sox players for a rental that isn’t going to push you over the top.
  4. I’m 100% against trading for Betts. This is not a situation where’s he’s the final piece to the puzzle. I would consider it a massive waste to hand over prospect capital (and the Sox don’t have a whole lot to work with as-is) to acquire him in order to *maybe* win the division and then ultimately end up with another hole in RF entering into 2021.
  5. And spend some time on the DL
  6. Who wants to get Snell? Kidding... (but not really).
  7. This is not true. Vasquez is a much better fielder/framer than McCann. He also had a very nice breakout year offensively.
  8. I totally forgot Boras was his agent. There's different levels of risk/reward with every one of these guys. If I'm giving someone a contract, I want them to be on the field. I'm also not entirely convinced you have to go out and get a 1/2, nor force a signing and shoehorn it into that role for the competitive window. Wheeler totally fit that mold which is why he was such a great fit, and why it sucked so much they missed on him. But at the same time, you have to hope this team already has their 1/2 in some combination of Giolito/Kopech/Cease. Anything the Sox add this offseason should be to plug holes and add the missing complementary players. If the Sox core fails, it doesn't matter who you bring in (especially with this FA class) - they aren't going to be competitive.
  9. I know the guy is good with the glove, but he can't hit. He's a career .242 BA / .312 OBP / .392 SLG hitter. His wRC+ is at 87 for his career, and has never been at or over 100. Maybe he's a bench piece, but anything other than a minor league deal at this point in his career makes no sense to me.
  10. Personally I don't think it's worth it. You're asking an injury-plagued pitcher to stay healthy in his age 34 & 35 seasons when his presence on the team matters most. He's also not the most fit individual (#108thick) so I can't imagine he's going to age very well as he approaches his late-30's. If the Sox are going to dish out that much commitment to a start, I want him to at least be on the field for the majority of his contract.
  11. He'd make their team worse from not only a PR perspective, but also an on-field performance. I don't see the allure this guy has to other teams.
  12. Out of the three, I think Keuchel is the most realistic to be signed. They supposedly had interest in him last offseason, so they may already have some rapport with him and his agent.
  13. I think we'll see some more deals, but it won't be anything huge or significant. Sox don't have much to work with with trades. Literally half the prospect capital they have was hurt last year. Hard to make deals when everyone has suppressed value due to TJ.
  14. Glad this got posted. Unbelievable what he went through. Great to see he was able to overcome everything as well.
  15. That would be interesting to consider. Opens the door to trade Madrigal for SP then.
  16. A platoon of McCann/Collins on paper does match up. Obviously, this is dependent on Collins being able to show he can stick consistently in the MLB. He's career splits in the minors against RHP is not terrible. If you have to play McCann 80% of the time at DH, then of course there's probably a hole there.
  17. Go the trade route IMO. Better off signing bats at this point.
  18. No mention here.
  19. Not sure if she's implying something about the Sox, or if this is just worded poorly and reads that way. Fucking Drake LaRoche strikes again!
  20. Verlander went to the Astros - one of the most if not THE most advanced analytical teams in the MLB. Now compare that move to the Sox, from pitchers park to hitters park, and from NL to AL.
  21. We also have no clue is he's even willing to leave the West coast. Clearly location plays a part if someone would choose New Fucking Jersey/Philly over Chicago.
