QUOTE (Baron @ May 3, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) You mentioned that last night which is very possibly. Personally I dont think he should swing at anything while he is up there. When he does he just embarrasses himself. That's why we don't coach. I would have had him take 3 pitches on 3-0. Would have told him to close his eyes just in-case he gets any urge to swing. -

QUOTE (Baron @ May 3, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) Yeah I dont understand it either. Sure Gordon didnt play all that well last night. But atleast we saw signs of life with him. Remember More's last 2 at bats? Take fastball up the middle then swing at everything out of the zone. He was up 3-0 and didnt swing on 2 pitches up the middle. Last one he swung at was out of the zone. He is just completely lost right now. Morel sucks, but I read nothing into taking two pitches on 3-0 lastnight. I'm 100% sure that he had the take on 3-0, and 90% sure that he had the take on 3-1. He did swing at a bad pitch to strikeout, but it's not like he watched two fastballs go by because he couldn't pull the trigger. It was obvious that RV had him take 2 with a new(possibly wild) reliever in the game, and the game tied leading off the 7th. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:38 PM) Kind of useless to me then. Look at the lineup today. De Aza, the-new-Dunn (who went 2-for-3 against him last time), Escobar, Fukudome... none of these guys were around last year. Then there is the new version of Rios. And the guys who HAVE seen a lot of him are guys like Paulie (who is hitting very well this year and went 2-2 +BB against him last time, and hit him hard in 2011) and AJP (who also went 2-2 against him last time, and is hitting over .300 against him the last few years). Basically, looking at previous years are kind of pointless in this case, other than Beckham and Ramirez (who have indeed been bad against him - they were both o-fer-2011). Simply stating that he HAS had the Sox number over the last couple of seasons...we can twist it any way we want. If the Sox win tonight we are much more likely to see a 3-2 win than a 10-6 one like last time. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) um... the Sox beat Masterson the last time they faced him, earlier this year. He went 5 innings, gave up 5 runs (3 earned). Of what recent dominance do you speak? He speaks of every Masterson start vs. the White Sox besides the last one. He's owned us for a while. 8/18/11 6.0 innings 2 ER, 7 hits 7/24/11 7.0 innings 1 ER, 4 hits 5/18/11 8.0 innings 1 ER, 5 hits 4/3/11 7.0 innings 1 ER, 7 hits 8/31/10 7.2 innings 1 ER, 4 hits 7/4/10 5.2 innings 1 ER, 5 hits Do I need to continue? -

Danks really needs to step up and give the Sox 7-8 good innings tonight. The few arms that we do trust coming out of the pen need to be well rested heading into Detroit this weekend. GO SOX -
One more thing... I think equally as bad as the 8th inning was Ventura even pitching Thornton in the 9th with the Sox down a run. I'm NOT saying this because Matt was touched up for a few runs, I'm saying this because the Sox are obviously going to have to over-use Thornton and Reed while Crain is out and we don't need them pitching with us down late in ballgames. In all honesty, the Sox chances of winning this game down a run with 3 outs remaing is >10%. I don't want Reed OR Thornton entering a contest where we have a >10% chance of winning when they enter.

In my mind, we're in a tie for first...because Cleveland isn't winning the division.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) I would have much rather seen Thorton in for two innings than Ohman, sure. It's really not worth arguing over though because all of Reed, Ohman, and Thorton ended up screwing up. This whole night proves that the bullpen is paper-thin without Crain available. There just isn't an easy way to maneuver through 3 innings. Starters really need to go 7 for the pen right now. If Humber would have gotten hit around in the 6th everyone on here would have been completely irate that he even came out to start the inning with his 6 walks and unsharp stuff. Well...he got through it without allowing a run, and no one said anything. I just think that we all need to understand that right now the Sox only have two guys who can be trusted out of the bullpen. And we can't just pitch Thornton and Reed everytime its a close game. Other guys have to step up. Will Ohman stepped up tonight. He got through 1.2 innings without allowing a run...yes, RV mismanaged the 8th, but I'll be honest with you, I didn't have all that big of a problem with Ohman starting the 8th. This thing had extra's written all over it...the Sox showed no signs of being able to push a run across, and I'm sure RV was just trying to get through another frame without having to turn to Thornton or Reed.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) Everything was fine until he didn't use Thornton to get Kotchmann (when Ohman was clearly wearing down in a multiple inning performance which he's not used to) and then using Reed against their best RBI guy with a runner already on 2nd. Or just bringing in Reed one batter earlier, when the runner was only on 1st and you weren't facing Hannahan. That would have been okay, TOO. I suppose that's good for Reed to get a feel for closing, but not really the ideal position you want to put him in there, that's for sure. The splits for Hannahan R/L were pretty much irrefutable in terms of the right move there (or not). I was just basically talking about the people who were saying the Ohman shouldn't have even been entered into a 3-3 game to start the 7th. I get that it was a terrible move not getting Ohman out of there after he gave up the base hit.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) With the lefty heavy line-up it would have made more sense to use Thorton situationally. Ohman already pitched last night; it did not make sense for him to pitch so much tonight. Doesn't really matter though as Thorton was terrible. So Thornton starts the 7th. Who pitches the 8th and 9th? Reed then Santiago? Or do you pich Matt 2 innings before entering Reed for the 9th?
-
Anybody questioning Ohman being used AT ALL you're nuts. The Sox have TWO guys right now you can trust coming out of the pen. In a lefty-heavy line-up, this was a perfect night for Ohman to pitch. YES...Robin let him go a batter too long, but for those of you saying "why was Ohman pitching at all" you're wrong. Reed and Thornton were going to go the 8th and 9th. Who would you suggest using for the 7th? Santiago? Axelrod? Stewart? Jones?
-
QUOTE (Baron @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) I mean he might as well just not swing at anything. In a tie game leading off the 7th with a new reliever I may give the 3-0 and 3-1 take to Morel and Beckham. Everyone else can swing away on 3-1.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) I mean seriously how bad do you have to be to take 2 pitches up the middle when your up 3-0. Then swing at a pitch out of the zone. I wouldn't be surprised if he had the 3-0 take and the 3-1 take. If I were Ventura I would have had him take both.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 08:55 PM) Because he's a GENIUS. Well, at least in this particular situation. Would almost rather see Ohman than Thornton against Hafner. Would rather see Ohman than anyone besides Thornton and Reed tonight against this particular line-up. Thornton-Santiago or Reed-Thornton to finish this thing?
-
Now THAT was a great play. Good work by Ohman...got the bullpen through a big inning there.
-
QUOTE (K-Rock @ May 2, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) Why does Robin love using Ohman so much No reason Ohman shouldn't pitch effectively tonight against a left-handed heavy line-up. Perfect game for him to see some meaningful innings.
-
Come on Will Ohman...
-
Bullpen just really has a different feel without Crain. There are now two guys you trust coming out of there. Thornton and Reed One guy you want to trust: Nate Jones And a bunch you don't want entering a close game: Ohman, Santiago, Axelod and Stewart.
-
Phew...Adam continues to do the job at first. That one made me nervous.

YEAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH LEXI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
