QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 10:15 PM) Hahn's bullpen is perilously close to being a fireable offense. I mean ... my gawd. Embarrassing. The Twinks hitting 3 homers in a row and one ball into the Ozone?? It truly is embarrassing. Arcia could have killed somebody had he hit a liner instead of hitting the ball to Gary, Indiana. Kill yourself. -

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:46 PM) No hindsight here. On the original thread announcing the trade, I said I didn't like it (day after the trade cuz I wanted to think about it before posting). As I posted elsewhere, I called a couple of pals in Phoenix who follow the Dbacks and asked them about it, and they said the team did not like Davidson after a significant cup of coffee, blah blah blah. I was quickly criticized, and I don't know if anyone else here agreed with me or not. Now some do. Congrats. You are a smarter person than Rick Hahn. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Not really necessary. And I don't think that post was far off either, Thompson had barely gotten his feet wet. Really? It should have been Guerra? Ok. This was a totally fair and reasonable comment. -

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:57 PM) This is a reasonable point and therefore has no place on this board. Maybe try some baseless, constant complaining. I wish I was taller. -

The Reed/Davidson trade was a good decision. Not every good decision becomes a good trade. That's baseball. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 05:35 PM) Seems like an odd choice over Guerra, at the least. He's no special talent, but I remember looking over the Charlotte roster before his callup and thinking he was the only possible addition You are either kidding or retarded. -
Sox Place Three in Fangraphs' Top 50 Trade Rankings
Leonard Washington replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Something that was mentioned in the comments and I wasn't aware of was Abreu's ability to opt-out of his contact and choose arbitration. At any price, I'm happy to have him. But does this tamper things a little? Or by the time he hits ARB will he be in decline anyways? -
There is some video of Sierra putting a towel over Abreu and then fanning him while they were in Toronto as well. Also video of Avi doing the same thing. I'm thinking it's a running joke amongst the Latin players (or at least a microcosm of them) about what a beast Abreu is. They probably like to prod at him because he's so modest. Who wouldn't?

Will Sox be buyers, not sellers, at the trade deadline?
Leonard Washington replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm going to post, and haven't read the previous 11 pages, so apologies if I repeat anything or whatever. But I think we'll see a similar approach to last season's deadline, only without the big names. Dunn is gone. Beckham is gone. Lindstrom is gone. Get whatever ready or near-ready talent in return you can. Likely guys that could compete for a spot in the 2015 bullpen. -
Is Adam Dunn necessarily a goner after this year?
Leonard Washington replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm thinking the Sox deal Dunn at the deadline for whatever they can get (which could actually wind up being something of moderate value) and Viciedo winds up taking of the DH role. Not sure who will fill in RF until next season, but I think this is the most likely scenario for 2014. For what it's worth, I felt that way prior to tonight's game. Tank has looked a lot better at the plate, and for the time they've invested in him already, they may as well use half a season to see if he adapts well to a DH role, and go from there. He obviously doesn't have a future home at 1B anymore, isn't a viable long-term (or even short-term) corner OF on a contender, and might benefit from keeping his focus 100% on his plate approach. -
Beckham's injury is in the best shape of its life.

Giants were "close to deal" with White Sox

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) I'd be more interested in who we targeted, as there is always the chance that we would target that player again. Agreed. Susac is a logical guess I would say. -
I don't see much of a fit between the two, although sharing the same complex makes exposure to each other's roster pretty easy.

QUOTE (Points75 @ Feb 7, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Live in Canterbury, a city of around 40000 people an hour south east of London. Visited the US for the first time in 2001, landing in Chicago before visiting NYC, Boston and driving round the north east. Started watching baseball on TV while in the Chicago hotel room, but the White Sox were on a road trip. The Cubs must have been playing at Wrigley, but the name sounded silly to me, so I didn't bother going to see them. Have since been to games in Oakland, Washington, New York and Seattle, but not yet seen the White Sox play. Subscribe to ESPN America to watch as much baseball as possible in the summer months. Will visit the Cell at some point. I was there in 2008. Nice town. Cool castle.
