  1. I wasn't trying to suggest they were the same thing or anything like that. I was just showing another example of his pettiness.
  2. He also throws a shot at JP Ricciardi (who fired him from the Blue Jays) in his write up about Adam Dunn (with the whole "unless you're more concerned about whether he likes baseball" or whatever he wrote). You may remember the whole controversy about Ricciardi saying that about Dunn on the radio.
  3. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) Yeah, and? The two statements support each other. There is no contradiction. If emotion is detrimental to on-field performance, then it obviously has an effect. That's all I'm getting at. The ability to control one's emotions is a big part of baseball, which is something you appear to believe also. This is where I get confused that you also seem to believe emotions play no role in the game.
  4. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) How? In the first sentence you said emotion has nothing to do with effective performance on a baseball field. In the second sentence you said it's detrimental to on-field performance.
  5. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Emotion has absolutely zero to do with effective on field performance in baseball. In fact, it's a detriment to hitting, pitching and fielding. You just contradicted yourself.
  6. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) Thats true, but it could hurt guys who rely on working fast and never shake off the pitch call like MB and Danks. Yeah, that's true. I'm not against bringing AJ back either. If it were my decision I would offer him arbitration. If he accepts, you've got another year with a reliable and known commodity that our pitchers like (albeit at an expensive price). If he declines, you let him walk, take the picks, and find a stopgap.
  7. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) While they were an overall disappointment this year, we still have one more year with potentially one of the best starting staffs in baseball. For next year, I want an established vet putting down the signs. Not to say it has to be AJ, but its not the time to bring up an inexperienced catcher. I see what you're saying, but I think it makes more sense to have an inexperienced catcher with a veteran rotation. If you have an inexperienced rotation THAT is when you're going to really want the veteran presence behind the plate to guide the kid pitchers along.
  8. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Emotion has nothing to do with baseball. I disagree. Emotion has a lot to do with baseball. Ask Carlos Zambrano.
  9. Realistically, couldn't Quentin and Jones platoon with each other? It would never actually happen, but it would make sense. Quentin has always hit righties better than lefties, and Jones is obviously the opposite.
  10. I think Alexei probably got blasted for that play a few weeks ago where he went home on a ball he had no chance of getting the runner on. Twice in this inning he had a probably easy play of getting the lead runner and he instead lobbed the ball to 1b without even thinking about it.
  11. I think we're going to hear some interesting post game comments from Ozzie.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Except for the fact that it would be a 1-1 game right now.... And I think there's a decent argument that it might be 1-0. Danks had to throw a lot of extra pitches that inning, and with the Sox going down quick, didn't really get much of a breather and hit around a bit the next inning too. But either way, those 4 runs are the difference right now. What a dud.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) No one answered my question about Teahen's 2nd error. This is a pull baseball special it seems. About it being a double play ball? Yes, it was. He made a nice pick on it actually, but threw the ball nowhere close to the bag. His glove isn't terrible, but he throws the ball away wayyyy too often. I think it's gotten to his head. He strikes me as being a little on the soft side.
  14. I was actually in Europe for the Griffey deal, and I remember being so confused about where he was going to play. I didn't think there was any way they'd play him in CF.
  15. I'd be weary of acquiring Bautista not only because his season is so out of line with his past performances, but also because the Blue Jays have seemed to have that affect on other players too (Gonzalez, Buck, etc.). I'd worry that by leaving the Jays he'd be leaving his power outburst behind.
  16. I feel like this has probably been posted somewhere, but I haven't seen it. If it has, my bad. http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html Not sure how everyone else feels, but I think this is hilariously embarassing for Gilbert, the Cavs, and their fans. And I say that as a fan of no involved teams (kind of...I'm a Raptors fan). Also...I wonder what number Lebron will have? The Heat retired 23 in honour of Jordan.
  17. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) My question on the Peavy loss is whether the Sox have insurance against this kind of injury. In other words, could the Sox get back enough of Peavy's salary to invest it in a replacement? Because, all things being equal, if the Sox could replace Peavy and his contract with Lee, they'd happily pay a bit more for Lee, wouldn't they? Wouldn't you? I think Peavy may never recover from this injury to be dominant again. Whereas Lee is a true Ace. Teams usually get some form of insurance policy on most players. The insurance companies go over their medical records and the policy is decided on a player by player basis. Someone like Peavy probably didn't have much coverage, or he had very high insurance rates. Teams generally don't release those records though, as it reflects on the player's medical history, much of which is completely confidential.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) i honestly think this is just KW driving up the price for Minny. Agreed 100%
  19. I can't see us making a move for Lee. What I CAN see is us making a pretend move for Lee to drive up his price. But when it comes down to it, we still need a bat more than Lee. And besides, the teams in on Lee (Rays, Rangers, Twins) have a greater need and better resources than the Sox.
  20. Thanks... And yeah, that could be it for sure.
  21. Marquez was recalled, not Hudson. Does this suggest a greater likelihood of Hudson being involved in a trade? I think it just may.
