  2. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) I know this is not the thread for it.. but does anyone have advice on how I can get the feed of WGN or WPWR.. i am in the Dixon, IL area With any sort of decent antenna you should be able to easily pick up all the WGN and WPWR games on Channel 13-3 WREX out of Rockford.

  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) By the way, it says (at least my mlb.com e-mail about this) the greatest LIVING players. So that would be Thomas, Baines, Aparicio, Buehrle/Konerko, arguably. You could make an argument for Fisk as well, and Billy Pierce. The Franchise Four is all players living or deceased. The greatest living players is something different they are doing to decide the four greatest living players regardless of team. Their ballot for this is ridiculous. It only lists eight players: Aaron, Bench, Bonds, Henderson, Koufax, P. Martinez, Mays and Seaver. While you can write in names this ballot is ridiculous as most people will just vote for who they can click on without having to type anything. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y20...reatest_players
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) The Sox have to have the worst second best player ever of the older franchises. It seems like we went basically to the 30s to the early 80s without a true superstar player until Fisk and Thomas showed up. There were obviously some good players in there but no real franchise ones. Appling maybe was good enough for that title. Fox and Aparichio were popular but I'm not sure good enough. Dick Allen wasn't with the Sox for long. I doubt Fisk will be on there because of the hall of fame fiasco. Eddie Collins is a GOAT caliber player but he played so long ago. Joe Jackson is banned from baseball but he's so culturally relevant and of course good that he should be on there. Frank Thomas is the only obvious lock. I'm voting Collins, Thomas, Konerko, and Minoso. Appling was a 70+ fWAR player who would have easily had 3000 hits had he not lost two years serving in WWII, I think he qualifies. To me the dude is a legend and is incredibly underrated. Hell, this alone should get him on the Sox Mount Rushmore
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 06:33 AM) Any chance he spends a few weeks in the bullpen, then gets sent back to Charlotte to stretch out his arm and joins the rotation in the summer? That would keep his innings down. I think he will spend just a few weeks in the pen but I don't think he will get sent back down to stretch out his arm. With Danks and Noesi making up 2/5ths of the Sox rotation, there should be ample opportunities to stretch him out from the pen.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 19, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) I was watching the posted velocity, and I never saw a single fastball over 90, from around the 3RD inning, on. As I said, he was consistently 88 - 89. That is Johnny Danks speed, and down from Jose's normal 93 - 94. Maybe that's why he was working so slowly. He and the catcher were trying to figure out what to do, given the lack of velocity. Pitchfx shows him consistently over 90 all game. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.ph...&league=mlb
  8. If this is strictly the four best players, then it should be Thomas, Appling, Collins and Jackson. I think a player should play a minimum of five seasons with the team to be eligible.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) Wait so now Tyler Flowers is the best candidate to DH? Take your meds. Who said he was?
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 08:25 AM) I don't want Robin fired and the struggles this season aren't his fault but if he calls for a bunt again in the 9th with runners on 1st and 2nd, I'd consider that a fireable offense. Good lord stop that madness. Then you would have to fire just about all of the managers in baseball because they all do it. I hate sacrifices. Never give up an out.
  11. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) It's a rare instance, but it's clear that teams are unwilling to take this chance. It's very rare that a team uses a catcher as a DH. And I've always though it was kind of stupid that teams are unwilling to do it. If your backup catcher is the best option at DH, play him. If the starter gets hurt, big deal you just have to play NL ball for a few innings.

  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) That wouldnt happen, if whoever is playing C gets injured they are screwed Not really. Then the DH just moves to catcher and your pitcher has to hit the rest of the game. Not really that big of a deal for one game in the rare instance that the starting catcher would get hurt.

  18. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Do you really see him taking as many walks as Ordonez? Ordonez's career walk rate was 8.4%. Garcia's last year was 7.4%.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) If Robin has to go someday I'd choose the Twins' former skipper. Why not? And if not him, Leyland or LaRussa if they'd do it. Zero chance either of them manages again. They're both in their seventies.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) no matter now.... the season started. i love to be informed, but i am still hyped on this team. the one thing i really hate, esp with how the tv/media is making baseball have more exposure, the sox can't have their minor league teams televised. i mean, as baseball is promoting the season package, why couldn't the sox ownership group come up with a complete sox package of their minor system. the sox have great prospects, i am sure many would love to see them play. ok, let them do the home games only. http://www.milb.com/milb/multimedia/ $50/year gives you a hell of a lot of games to watch.

  25. For as poor as the Sox attendance is and for as mediocre of a tv deal as they have, I don't think any complaints about their payroll this year have any validity at all. The Sox are just under the MLB average of roughly $125 million, but that number is skewed a little high due to the obscene payroll of the Dodgers and the Yankees to a lesser extent.
