  1. They really want him. They generated plenty of buzz by signing Abreu.
  2. Two years ago, the Super Bowl was played in Peyton Manning's home stadium. The winning QB was Eli Manning. This year, the Super Bowl is being played in Eli Manning's home stadium.
  3. Update: Tom Brady SB rings with Charlie Weis = 3 Tom Brady SB rings without Charlie Weis = 0
  4. A number like -3 or +4½ is a point spread. If you want to make an even money bet on the game, people betting on the favorite have to give points to the people betting on the underdog in order to even out the betting. If you want to bet on a team at -3, they have to win by more than 3 points for you to win your bet. If they win by exactly 3 points, it's a push. If you bet on a team at +4½, that team can either win, or lose by less than 4½ points for you to win your bet. (There are obviously no pushes when there is a ½ in the spread.) A number like -180 or +140 is a money line bet. You are betting just on one team to win, regardless of by how many points. A number like -180 means the team is a substantial favorite, and as such, you have to bet $180 in order to win $100. a number like +140 means that the team is a moderate underdog and you can bet $100 to win $140. The other most common bet is an over/under bet on the total number of points in a game. Given the total set by the bookmaker, such as 45½ points, you simply make an even money bet on whether the total points scored in the game will be over or under that total.
  5. The information about the sex change became relevant to the story because it came in tandem with the name change which was part of what was behind all of her lies. No credible journalist would accept a deal like this. I don't know why you have a bug so far up your ass about this. She was a shady POS and he exposed her. You don't deserve "extra protection" because you are transgender or gay or whatever. If you are a shady f***, you should be exposed no matter what your secrets are.
  6. If you want an accounting of every dollar a company takes in and spends, then buy stock. Otherwise, it's really none of your f***ing business. The team is going to allocate its resources the best way it sees fit, and if that makes you miserable, then that's your problem and please don't whine about it to me.
  7. The sex change didn't impact the credibility. The sex change was an incidental discovery while investigating her lies.
  8. Yes, when you design and sell a product, lying about your qualifications pretty much opens up your life. If you want to keep your sex change private, then don't f***ing lie and commit fraud.
  9. I had to skim through parts of the story because it was so long, but was Ms. V. not lying about her education/qualifications and didn't her name change help her conceal those lies?
  10. I just checked, and the grammatical error is actually Bruce's and not an error/typo by timbo. Makes me sad that somebody who makes that kind of mistake gets paid to write and report for a living.
  11. Yes, but he said he wanted to connect it to American History, and the later, the better, so what better than a description of 2009-2013 America?
  12. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Tanaka with Rick Hahn at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
  13. What would be more fun that the disappointment of Cubs fans in not getting Tanaka? The Cubs getting bet down to a 3/2 favorite right before not getting him.
  14. I'm from Indiana, so I am biased towards Peyton Manning. I went to Notre Dame (and Michigan State) so I am biased against that pretty-boy asshole QB of the Patriots. So yeah, I have the Broncos winning.
  15. The earth's average temperature is most definitely rising. How much of that is natural and how much is due to humans is very difficult to quantify. That said, there are plenty of things that we know are bad for the earth and we should stop doing regardless of how directly we can correlate those things to climate change.
  16. I include Abreu's entire signing bonus in 2014 payroll since that is when he actually gets the money. I have 15 players signed for $88.975 million. 10 more players at or near rookie salaries puts it at about $94 million.
  17. I really liked the first Swisher trade.
  18. It was making the rounds a couple days ago when I mentioned it in post #113.
  19. I would not look at the lack of Sox willingness to give big contracts to FA pitchers in the past as any indication of what will happen here. They typical MLB pitcher hits free agency around age 28-29, and sometimes older. Rightly so, the Sox aren't willing to give 5+ year deals to pitchers in that age range. Tanaka is 25. There is much more justification in giving Tanaka 5-7 years then there would have been for guys like Sabathia, Santana, etc.
  20. I'm sure the developer could do something to the management company if they wanted to, but it's very clear that they don't.
  21. All the developer says is that it's the management company's responsibility to get it fixed. I even went to the sales office and let the sales manager have it right in front of a potential customer, which he really didn't appreciate, but he insisted that he had no power to influence anything. I will re-read the HOA agreement, but so far I haven't found anything listed about homeowner recourse against the HOA.
  22. Yes, I'm talking about regular standing lamps that illuminate the streets/sidewalks. I can't find anything about maintenance levels beyond a list of tasks the HOA is responsible for.
  23. I think I already know the answer to this, but I am going to ask anyway. I live in a subdivision that is about 9 years old, but the builder/developer is still selling lots and building houses. The subdivision has a HOA, but the HOA is run by the builder or its designee until 100% of the lots are sold and then it gets turned over to the homeowners. The company managing the HOA flat out sucks. They only care about getting their monthly fees and provide terrible service. Of course, the HOA charter only lists the duties/responsibilities of the HOA and does not specify any time frames or service levels. We have had a street light out for 45 days. The management company has promised that it will be fixed "by the end of next week" three different times, none of which actually happened. When I call them, I keep getting excuses such as: snow, cold, holidays, waiting for a part. To me, this is a serious safety issue, and it seems borderline negligent that it is taking this long. My guess is that I really have no legal options other than to bend over and take it, but I thought I'd check to make sure. This is in Indiana if that makes any difference.
