  1. What percent of those people do you think still have the same phone number that they had in 1997?
  2. I think you always need to be looking to buy low on talent. If the Rays aren't getting any good offers for Lobaton and the Sox can get him without giving up anybody in the long-term plans, you have to make that move. Maybe Lobaton turns into something. Maybe a contender's catcher goes down mid-season and you can flip him for a better prospect. Getting Lobaton doesn't mean that you can't still get a good look at Phegley.
  3. Would I like to have him? Yes. Would I be willing to give up anybody valuable for him? No.
  4. Not exactly double jeopardy, but down here, there was a retired state cop who got charged with killing his wife and kids (8, 5). He had 10 witnesses that put him 10 miles away playing basketball at the time of the murders, and there was an ex-con's DNA on a sweatshirt at the scene. Not only did he get prosecuted, but got convicted twice with both times the convictions eventually overturned on appeals. The prosecutor still decided to try him a third time, when he was finally found not guilty. Spent 13 years in prison until then though.
  5. Danks, DeAza, and Viciedo will not all be on the roster. If neither of the last two get traded, then Danks goes to AAA.
  6. After what we got here last night, need to add 'Zamboni' as a 3rd option.
  7. Yes it was an extreme example, but the point is that there will come a time in the season where player development trumps trying to win.
  8. OK, but the people I know are in their late 20s to mid 30s.
  9. Honestly, unless there is some miracle that puts this team in contention, win total really isn't even that important. I'd take 63 wins if it comes with decent development by young players, a marked improvement by some out of Ramirez/Beckham/DeAza/Viciedo, and a decent return on a Dunn deadline trade, as opposed to 75 wins but none or very few of the other things.
  10. I know people who smoke 10+ times/week.
  11. Isn't it obvious that the new college football season begins the day after the Super Bowl?
  12. But he was a college coach coaching well-paid professionals.
  13. Why did people doubt that Pete Carroll could be successful in the NFL? He was very successful with well-paid players at his last job.
  14. I got to start my last ever day in my 30s by shoveling 6 inches of snow.
  15. Andre Reed getting in before Tim Brown is about the biggest joke ever.
  16. They announced it last night: Michael Strahan, Andre Reed, Walter Jones, Derrick Brooks, Aeneas Williams, Claude Humphrey and Ray Guy Aeneas Williams? Over Brown and Bettis? What a f***ing joke!
  17. HOF is a total joke if Brown and Bettis don't get in today.
  18. This practice of naming winter storms really has become a circus.
  19. Yeah, we were originally told that we might get the bulk of the snow down this way, but now we are being told that it's going to be mostly rain, which with still frozen ground ought to be a lot of fun.
  20. Sorry, my time machine's flux capacitor is broken right now, so I can't say for sure. Most likely he's not here beyond next year, but nothing is set in stone. Maybe Teixeira, Ortiz, Ibanez, or someone else gets hurt midseason and offers the Sox something good for Dunn. Maybe Dunn has a good year and the Sox decide to keep him around. Maybe none of those things happen. But we don't know for sure, which is why there isn't one team in baseball that would pay $14M just to make such a person go away.
  21. He was 5th on the team in OBP and 2nd on the team in SLG, and there isn't one team in baseball that would pay $14M just to make such a person go away.
  22. Fun fact that I get to use frequently down here: Kentucky and Louisville have a combined one win against Top 25 teams. That win came when they played each other.
