His father was a lawyer, his fiancee's father was a doctor, and they were spending about $25K on the wedding (and this was back in 1993). Tux rental was going to be $120. I was a grad student and told him there was no way I could afford that on top of the cost of traveling to the wedding. He found someone else to be in the wedding who could afford the tux.

I had to hear the "refs robbed us" complaints all day yesterday on the radio from Kentucky fans. Notre Dame didn't lose to Kentucky because of the refs. Kentucky didn't lose to Wisconsin because of the refs. Wisconsin didn't lose to Duke because of the refs. And this is from somebody who is very disheartened to see the championship won by a team that Notre Dame beat twice, the last time very convincingly in the ACC tournament.

Everything is awesome.

This is slightly off-track, but germane to this discussion. I've always thought Cook County should be split into three parts. One would be the city of Chicago, that would have a single unified city-county government, a la Indianapolis and Louisville. The other two counties would have a dividing line roughly along the Ike. The third largest city in the nation, already with a mayor and 50 aldermen, doesn't need a county government on top of that.

Getting France to do anything is a pretty effective job.
