  1. Looking forward to the debate about taking Sale out of the game with 130 pitches and a no-hitter
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Changing from CF to LF hasn't really helped DeAza's defense either, he actually seems to be worse in left than he was in CF last year, if that's possible. No matter where you put him, he can't read the ball off the bat and tends to start off going in the wrong direction and usually struggles to recover from that point onward. Viciedo played well in LF for most of 2012. He's shown that he's capable of doing it, at least. Do you honestly think Viciedo is a better left-field defender than De Aza
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:09 PM) This isn't the NBA/NFL. If the Cubs hear the Sox like Kolek what does that matter? If the Jays (#9) hear the Twins like Gordon (#5) what difference does it make? It's not like if the NFL where if #12 hears the Bears are picking Joe Smith at #8 then they could trade up and pick him. If the Sox for some strange reason came out with press release the day before the draft saying they were drafting Kolek do you think the Marlins would draft him to spite the Sox? No, they would still take whoever they deem to be the best player or financial option available. Without trades, please show me how it matters. Bonuses
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 21, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Nobody seems interested in hitting the ball Have we completely ruled out Q having a fetish for no-decisions and his teammates respecting his sexual preferences to the extent that they will compromise their performances for him
  5. Could that have been a triple if he legged it out?
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ May 16, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Hard to believe Flowers is still at .310. He'll be at .255 by the break. wRC+ of just 110 too. With a BABIP of .486, that's awful.
  7. 11 Ks for Sale through 4 innings. What's the minor-league record? Should go for that, bollocks to pitch counts.
  8. I'll always associate Jeff Keppinger with my developing knowledge of baseball. When he was signed I was in my early months of following the game and thought "this is great, he hit .325 last year!". I know a little better now.
  9. QUOTE (icroca @ May 10, 2014 -> 10:58 PM) Give it up already. Christ. #neverforgive #neverforget
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Maybe Mitchell Boggs with St. Louis. There has to be closers who have been DFA'd during the season.Valverde got DFA'd as the Tigers closer. Meant to specify non-closer, i.e. what would normally be considered high-leverage relievers.
  11. I wonder if this is the quickest a reliever has ever been designated for assignment after starting the 9th with a 1-run lead. Less than a month.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2014 -> 06:03 AM) So he wasn't used in the 9th inning with a lead. More a point on how he obviously wasn't pitching well despite his low ERA and it finally caught up to him
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:51 PM) "Any time you can play with a Hall of Famer, then it is something special to remember. I've seen great players make great plays many times. But he was the greatest clutch hitter I've played with or against. He was an excellent hitter through hard work and played at the right time against great teams like the Yankees. He hit .390, won three batting titles and always seemed to be there at the right time with clutch hitting." - Frank White "But they're (his hemorrhoids) all behind you now." - Greg Nettles in A Night at the Hot Corner (Yes Network) "George Brett clearly deserves a special place in the annals of major league baseball history." - American League president Gene Budig "George Brett could get good wood on an aspirin." - Jim Frey "George Brett could roll out of bed on Christmas morning and hit a line drive." - John Schuerholz "George Brett has always been a Hall of Famer, both as a player and a person. From the day he started his career at Billings (Montana) through his last game, George's work ethic and determination was second to none. His hard-nosed style, charisma and ability to deliver in clutch moments made him the first superstar in Kansas City. George's accomplishments and contributions during the last 28 years remain everlasting throughout the organization and our community. The Royals organization is proud of the fact that George has been associated with the Royals since the onset of his professional career." - Royals General Manager Herk Robinson "He was always the guy. He was the clutch guy. Not only with the manager, coaches and his teammates, but the fans knew more often than not in a clutch situation he'd come through because he was so mentally tough and he accepted being that guy." - Denny Matthews "He was clearly one of the best players of his generation, but he had a style that spanned the generations. He looked and carried himself like a baseball player and could have been at home in any era. He was the kind of guy who conveyed something to fans thats very important, which was that he thought of himself first and foremost as a baseball player. There was nothing in the world that he would rather be doing than playing baseball every day when he was on the field." - Broadcaster Bob Costas "His success in the playoffs and World Series in clutch situations really elevated him from the local to national scene. He had that national spotlight and stage to perform on. It's one thing to be in the Post Season and on stage, but it's another to come through. A lot of guys have been on that stage, but few have produced as he did." - Denny Matthews "If God had him no balls and two strikes, he'd still get a hit." - American League umpire Steve Palermo "If he can hit .350, we (Missouri driver's license bureau) figured he could see." - Harley Duncan on why they waived the eye test George Brett career without runners in scoring position: .304/.353/.490 George Brett career with runners in scoring position: .294/.410/.481
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) For some reason advanced statistics are doing the same thing for me. I can't enjoy Tyler Flowers, why...his BABIP tells me he will suck from now until mid-July. The stats tell me so. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) well, Feeky tells you so too QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 7, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) that is where I got the stat from. Ruined all my fun watching Tyler Flowers. Ha. Nobody told you not to enjoy it. In fact, the knowledge that it won't last should allow you to enjoy it all the more.
  15. I would think this absolutely guarantees the Sox end up with one of Aiken, Kolek or Rodon
  16. Man am I glad we only have to see pitchers hitting a few times a year, what a joke it is
  17. Noesi perfect game through 1
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 6, 2014 -> 07:19 AM) True, but Liverpool were up 3-0 in the 55' and frankly, should have been up 5 or 6-0 at that point with some of their missed chances. If they could have scored a couple more it would not have been impossible that they could have turned the GD around. Not likely, but it at least would have made Sunday a little more meaningful. And from a betting standpoint, the over in Sunday's Liverpool game would essentially be free $$$ Still piling forward at 3-1 up with 10 minutes to go was stupid in the extreme. They were 7 behind in goal difference and would have had to score minimum 9 goals in 100 minutes to win it on GD, likely 11 or 12.
