  1. Did that first pitch really happen (have the game on but was out of the room)?
  2. QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 16, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) I know it's still pretty early, but I think it should be noted that Eaton is currently leading all of MLB with 5 DRS. The move from CF is obviously having a massive positive effect on his defense, and I'm happy Hahn was smart enough to bring in Jackson who, while he needs to start hitting more, has really alleviated the pressure on Eaton on Cabrera to make plays. It's very strange, bar 2015, there's been a huge disparity between DRS and UZR when it comes to Eaton. 2013 Eaton: DRS: -2 UZR: -10 2014 Eaton: DRS: +12 UZR: -3 2015 Eaton: DRS: -14 UZR: -11 2016 Eaton: DRS: +5 UZR: -0.3 I'd be inclined to trust DRS a bit more as it has better batted ball data, and the eye test on Eaton this year would say he's been really good defensively.
  3. Man the AL Central is looking nasty this year (with the obvious exception of the Twins). If the results stay the same it's: 1. White Sox 7-2 2. Tigers 6-2 3. Royals 5-2 4. Indians 4-3 5. Twins 0-9
  4. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) In the 7th? Good chance there's not a higher leverage out for the rest of the game Anyway, worked out
  5. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) Lol. Okay. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Yeah...uh...let's not get carried away Hyberbole for effect gents
  6. If Abreu could learn to lay off the low and away slider he'd be f*cking Barry Bonds
  7. It's incredible seeing that from Avi that he has a lower career ISO than Adam Eaton
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) 9 innings so far for Latos this year and only 1 hit. I could get used to this And that one hit came after Shuck dropped one in foul territory. He does need more strikeouts though, that BABIP ain't gonna stay at .042 for much longer.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) You love Putnam, I think he will be gone by June The only way he's gone by June is if the Sox tank and a contender trades for him.
  10. White Sox bullpen is excellent. Putnam to Jones to Robertson could be nasty this year, and almost everyone behind them is competent.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 05:18 PM) When you're a .500 team in a division full of .500 teams, upgrading a -1.0 WAR to something like 2.0 WAR is exactly the type of move that takes a team to the next level. Yeah, which is why I'm surprised you were advocating Upton/Gordon/Cespedes earlier in the thread. By far the most obvious move imo, is Austin Jackson.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) That 103 OPS+ was in 227 ABs, and five years ago. So if I am going to hear about sample size, I would give more respect to a current sample versus one half a decade old. Realistically his shot at playing time would come against LHP, who he's hit really well against at the MLB level.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) He put up a .236 .286 .390 .676 slash line, for an 80 OPS+, at the major league level in 2015. Was still good enough for a 0.0 WAR, which would be a big upgrade in RF. Less facetiously, obviously the argument I'm making is he could be a sneaky candidate to improve upon his numbers from last year. He was shown he can be an above-average hitter during a season at the MLB level, had a 108 wRC+ for the Dodgers in 2011. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) I think the truth is WAY closer to his major league 2015 numbers than it is to his 2015 AAA numbers. Even if the truth was 80% closer to his MLB numbers, that'd make him an above-average hitter. I'm not saying he's likely to do this, I'm saying he's a surprise candidate to do it that I like better than Shuck or Fields.
  14. Anyone else like this guy to maybe make a surprise impact this year? Hit .287/.409/.538 at AAA last year. Obviously hasn't matched that production in the majors, but he has hit for a 93 wRC+ (Avi is at 90), 135 wRC+ against lefties, and Steamer projects him for 101 overall this year. Seems to be an average baserunner and a non-liability on defence too. I like him more than Shuck/Fields if anyone is gonna step up from inside to take time off Avi.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Flowers framing was ignored by you when you had his batting average on your mind, now it is the most important thing around. I liked his framing as much as anyone, but cmon man. It is Tyler Flowers. No one wanted to take him off Hahns hands for a 25 year old A ballet. I've pretty much already addressed this in my previous comment, so I'll just link it up again. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) I know it doesn't make sense in your world where you have to rigidly stick to your original opinion, but people are allowed to change their minds as new information comes out. I have been convinced by the arguments of the pitch framing advocates, and thus changed my mind as to the value of players like Flowers. I'm not saying I'm completely devastated he's been non-tendered, just that I probably wouldn't have done it (admittedly saying this before I've seen the replacement plan), or, if I did do it, would have non-tendered Avi as well.
  16. Fwiw, Navarro has rated as one of MLB's worst framers in the last couple of years.
  17. If that is to be the plan, really wish we'd decided on the catcher platoon thing before we traded Josh Phegley and other useful pieces for one year of Samardzija.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) Of course you told all of us last season Flowers wouldn't hit .200, and reminded us of that when you bumped your post when he dipped below. Now it makes no sense to you that he gets non tendered and the White Sox upgrade their offense. I know it doesn't make sense in your world where you have to rigidly stick to your original opinion, but people are allowed to change their minds as new information comes out.
  19. Obviously early, but worth noting that the White Sox's plan so far to address the awful 2015 season has been to jettison the catching unit which was arguably middle-to-top-half-of-MLB in terms of value (depending how you feel about framing) and yet to touch 2B, 3B or corner OF which were amongst the league's worst. I'll probably feel more comfortable when the bigger picture is revealed, but it's not quite the way I would have approached things.
  20. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Zero reason to non tender Avi. He's only going to make $2.5 million or so and has an option left. You don' t give up his potential for so little money. There are several reasons to non-tender Avi, but in the context of the Flowers non-tender it's more confusing, as at least Flowers has shown he can provide *some* value, at a position where FA/trade talent is way more scarce. I've written hundreds of words elsewhere on the issues I have with Avi's "potential" so I won't get into that.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) They aren't DFAing anyone. Sorry, non-tendering
  22. If we were DFAing anyone surely it should have been Avisail Garcia.
