Right now, for comparisons sake, I'd probably think a lot of Yuniesky Betancourt when I think of Ramirez. But I think Alexei's capable of producing more pop offensively, which he's shown over the past few days, but I think Betancourt's probably the better of the 2 defensively, even though Alexei is more versatile (which will definitely help him in the future, although it'd be good if he could settle down at 1 position for a while).

Certainly a bit of action in this thread this afternoon. On the Uribe the LAD rumors, asking for Kemp is just silly. Chin - Lung Hu is the guy I'd ask for. Young, cheap, and although he's only hitting something like .176 currently, you move him to a better offensive park, and he's a pretty dynamite defensive SS who'd be under your control for a good 5 seasons. That's unless you could get Kuo somehow, even though he's got an arm that's extremely wild, he's got pretty damn good stuff. And if he could show he could hit (Hu), you wouldn't need OC in 2009 (and you could trade him for the right piece or just take the draft picks).

Yeah it's a no brainer. Until he's stops hitting, Alexei is the guy. Uribe's defense has been excellent, but Alexei's offensive production over the past few weeks outweighs that. And Ramirez hasn't been terrible at 2nd base defensively by any means. This team needs all of the hot hitters they can get ATM.

I think the frustrating thing is the guys at the top and bottom of the lineup are actually doing ok-ish. Guys like Pierzynski and Crede have had solid seasons, Ramirez has provided a real spark since he joined the lineup, Dye for the most part has produced well, Quentin has been fantastic, and O-Cab is starting to hit. It's 2 guys in Thome and Konerko who are so important, in terms of producing with runners on (I need to check their numbers with RISP), and they haven't done the job. Now you know, they're not this bad. But can you rely on Walker to fix them? Paulie has turned it around, and he is generally a slow starter and a 2nd half hitter. Has Thome's bat slowed down for good though? I wouldn't actually mind now that I think about it, just give Fields a chance by putting Paulie on the DL for 15 days, and seeing what Fields does. I know he's not hitting well down at Charlotte, but who knows, he may come up here and suddenly start producing. Give this team a spark offensively. A jump, to kickstart some of the other guys. And I would say KW had a VERY GOOD off-season. The moves he made, basically all of those guys (bar Swisher and O-Cab early on) have all produced. The bullpen was a major weakness, now Linebrink and Dotel have shored that up. Quentin was a flat out steal. KW's best trade he's ever made as a GM ATM that one. It's the guys already on the team in your Thome's and Konerko's that haven't produced, and the blame lies with them for our subpar offense. Them and Greg Walker.

Basically it's firing Walker or moot to me. Just look at the #'s. We play in one of the best offensive ballparks in baseball, and yet we've been a subpar offensive team for around the last 2 years. Something has to give. I would also move Swisher to the #3 spot possibly to try and get him going. Or at least somewhere higher up in the order. But then you don't really want to move CQ from there do you. Thome and Konerko struggling are the 2 real problems though. Paulie should go on the DL if he's not completely 100% with that hand, and give someone like BA etc. some more chances in the lineup for a while, just a different mix. Thome has just had an all round terrible May, hitting bout .180. There really has to be major questions about whether his bat speed is just slowing right down now unfortunately, until he proves otherwise.

Richard is comparable to Heath Phillips though. Don't think he's really in the Sox's long term plans right now. Good to see him pitching well though.

I'm fine with how things stand ATM. If Swisher starts to get hot, then you can look at moving him back up, but if AJ is still doing well in the #2 spot, then you don't have to move him from there either. But the #'s show that AJ hasn't been doing that well in the #2 spot, so I guess we could see a change there at some point, but then again, if the team keeps winning, there's no real reason to change things up there for the sake of it. After this season, if OC leaves, we'll need a new leadoff hitter, which Swisher could be given the opportunity of claiming again, but a player such as Rafael Furcal would really fit a big need there.

Seeing him in person tonight against the Mets at Shea. Really looking forward to seeing that filthy curveball of his, mixed in with his fastball / change combo. Is he the best young pitcher to come into the majors over the past season and a bit, or would you rather have a Max Scherzer for example?

So it's safe to say Beckham's definitely going #1. Alvarez is pretty certain not going to be on the board at #8, and from what I've heard, Aaron Crow is probably top 5, with a guarantee at #7 if he's still on the board. Posey and Skipworth as much as I'd love for either to still be there at #8, probably isn't going to happen. So IMHO, that leaves Smoak, Matusz (least likely, probable top 6), Alonso, Hosmer (really hoping he goes before our pick, KC or Baltimore the most likely), Gordon Beckham, Wallace and Melville as the guys most likely to be there, or round-abouts at #8. Beckham is the interesting one, if he could stay at SS I would certainly pick him. But that isn't likely going to happen (he may not even stay at 2B or 3B). So I think if Smoak is there, the Sox really should go down that route (although I would like Matusz if he's still there). If we take Wallace I'm going to be disappointed.
