Soxtalk Softball Part II
Guys I will be flying in from New York for this, so let's get a good turnout.

At the quarter pole
Crede's been more like Fields than Crede at this point. I agree with most of the grades being thrown out. Quentin deserves an A+, because although I knew he had this kind of potential / production in him, I don't think anyone expected to see it so soon. Obviously the key before this season was the back end of the rotation, and those 3 guys have argubly been our best pitchers so far this season, hence why we're on top of the division. Konerko and Thome are causes for concern. My guess is they'll heat up when the weather heats up, but still those 2 need to start producing, and raising that average. If this continues, it's one area we may need to look at for changes in the upcoming off-season. Swisher is also another, but at least he still gets on base at a decent rate even when he's not really producing.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 18, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) You don't count. I didn't see Australia on that little multicolored map. Australia deserves to be on there more than Iowa.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
The Giants score 8, and they lose, ha. Nice to get some offense today. 5 game streak, let's keep it going.

5/18 gamethread: Sox vs Giants
Cain's become a real extreme flyball pitcher. Imagine if he wasn't pitching half his games at SF.

5/18 gamethread: Sox vs Giants
Disappointing, but we're still ahead. The bullpen will have to be perfect again.

Nice to see us getting some offensive production a little. Danks has probably got 1 more inning left in him.

MLB Draft Projections
Here are some opinions from John Sickels; I'm actually leaning towards really wanting Kyle Skipworth at this point.

Mountain Dew, and I call it Soft Drink.

i am drunk
I was in my "happy place" at that time, I'll have you know. But really enjoying getting wasted bout 2-3 times a week ATM.

i am drunk
Getting held upside down while consuming a keg = good times.

i am drunk
Well I was in a pretty good state of mine last night as well. Fun trying to catch a PATH train home at 4 in the morning, and trying to navigate the Subway system as a group. Got to front up again today though, the only way to enjoy it.

MLB Draft Projections
Tim Melville is someone who's certainly slipped a little in the rankings this season. I'm probably just leaning towards Smoak, but would be happy with Beckham. Buster Posey or Kyle Skipworth perhaps?

Choose CQ
Just imagine if he was on the D-Backs producing like this. Wow. But yes, he's a stud, and most importantly, he's staying healthy.

i am drunk
I will be extremely on Saturday. Flip cup at 2, and then an apartment party with a keg that night. Should be interesting.

2007-08 NBA Thread
My thinking is Thibodeau's definitely the guy for the Bulls ATM. Paxson wants a defensive guy, even moreso than Steve Kerr apparently.

The Official 2007-08 NFL Draft Thread
Emmitt's lost it quite a bit. Atlanta has no running game? Umm they just signed Michael Turner. DeSean Jackson at #4? Bwahaha. Tim Tebow at #5? I've read enough. EDIT: Matt Ryan twice in the top 8? Bingo.

2B Thoughts
FWIW, Ozzie said in the Trib he's sticking with Uribe so long as the Sox are winning. Have to say I was annoyed with that comment.

All Things Pro-Hillary
She's not Bill. No seriously, I would much prefer the democrats to win the next election, after what has happened with Bush, and I just get worried that McCain could sort of be Bush v2.0. If that means Clinton beats Obama, and then wins the election, so be it I guess.

TexSox's scary snake story
Yikes. I HATE snakes. That would have scared the s*** out of me. As for using a knife, don't know if I would use it, but it was probably the best option. What else are you going to use if you don't have a gun?

4/23 Games
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) I don't think that's been established. If he becomes an effective MLB starting pitcher is it a poor pick? Well to me, if you're picking someone at #15, you want someone who's going to become a good player, not an all-star, but at least someone who can reguarly contribute. Do I see Broadway doing that? Probably not with us. Just don't think he has the pure stuff to be a reliable starter in our rotation. I mean he's polished yes, but he just doesn't have a lot of up-side. There are many good players / prospects who were taken behind him, Chris Volstad, Yuniel Escobar, Matt Garza, Jacoby Ellsburry, Travis Buck etc. I mean we took Josh Fields at #18 the previous draft, and he's certainly a much better prospect than Broadway.

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) We lead the league in home runs, that plus our walks is why the offense has scored runs. The team is still not hitting. Eventually people will just challenge our hitters because they will rather have them hit solo home runs instead of walking people. The tigers have started hitting and now are only 3 behind us. So much for their 0 and whatever start. Our crappy 500 ball over the last week mitigated that. But we do have guys in our lineup now in Swisher who actually take a walk, because they are taking more pitches in the count. Eventually this team will hit for a better average. Some guys have already. I'm not majorly concerned. It's the pitching when the weather heats up, that concerns me more.

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
Except that this team is scoring at a rate of 5.42 runs per game. Pitching was the reason we lost this game. Vazquez was effectively wild early, but eventually the Yanks got to him. Not one of his better outings, that's for sure.

4/23 Games
QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) So, the reason he did well is only because Durham sucks. OK... what about his last 3 starts where he gave up a total of 2 earned runs? They didn't all suck. One game was an 8-inning start against 1st place Scranton? (Scranton is second in both OBP and SLG in the entire International League.) He doesn't need a blazing fastball to be a starter. With the late movement he has on his pitches, if he shows good command he could start. There are alot of starters in MLB I can think of who are similar. That has been an issue for him in the past IIRC.
