Can't really say I'm familiar with that one. More fun to be had tonight also. Perfect drinking weather today.

Ummmm so I shouldn't go out drinking tonight (especially on a rooftop bar, in case I like fall and plunge to my death)?
-
Happy Birthday Dan!!! Hope you had a good one!

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 07:10 AM) So my friend is throwing a weekend party at her lake house this weekend, free beer and free food. Does it get better than that? Can I come?

Loaiza To 15-Day DL with right shoulder tendinitis, Russell Called Up
DBAHO replied to quickman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He obviously had nothing left velocity wise. Was worth a shot though. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) And frankly, I think we ought to pencil Broadway in for 3 starts in September for exactly this reason. And that's why it'll be very good if we can build up a nice lead and keep it until then, so we don't have to depend on Danks to throw quality innings for us to win the division.

The Indians need hitters more than anything anyway. My guess would be they'd ask for Ramirez straight up, and that isn't going to happen, certainly for not a 2 month rental. Just on the Indians, it shows how important Travis Hafner is to that team. He was a terror 2 seasons ago, but not anymore.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) DBAH0 to his Brit roomies : Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel on the Simpsons i.e. You're a "hick" to them. I actually showed one of them that, and she had no idea what you are talking about FWIW. I guess Cletus just never made it big across the Atlantic.

Gimme 1 of Campbell, Redden or Liles, and I'll be very happy. A puck moving power-play D-Man is argubly this team's #1 priority, or it should be.

QUOTE (southsidehawkeye @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) Hawk said that he talked to Alexei about this kid recently and it seemed that Alexei had nothing but good things to say (his story was cut short a bit - I believe that it was right at the end of an inning and he never really started talking about the conversation again). Personally, I believe that Alexei could be a very, very useful in trying to get this kid to sign with us. Between "El Duke", Contreras, and now Alexei, I am becoming very fond of the Cuban players and hope we can add one more to our ranks with this kid. *Edit* On another note, Cubano... Is there anywhere that I can listen/read the press conference that those pictures in your above post are from? I'd be really interested to see it. That's very heartening to hear regarding Alexei and his connection with Viciedo. Right now the Sox are in a fantastic position to rebuild their system from argubly the 2nd worst in the majors (I consider Houston's the worst), to a top 10 system if they went out and signed this kid, and the tougher signs in the draft e.g Long the 1B/P. And you KW would love to use those type of assets in the farm to make some trades to take this team even further.

As NSS72 said, we don't want people to not start making threads because they don't think it'll be good enough to "please the masses". And obviously there's a past connection with Garcia and the Sox, hence why something may possibly happen, we'll have to wait and see. Who would have thought 2 weeks ago for instance that Esteban Loaiza would be part of this team again? My thought was however that with the options that we already have, signing Garcia would be a waste of $$$ (but the Sox have been guilty of that already with the likes of Uribe you could argue). But not everyone is going to agree with a thread topic, hence there's always going to be some sort of debate about it. But we need to keep the debate about the topic, and not make it personal by bringing up when people were first here etc. That shouldn't matter. There are quality posters who have been here for a long time (more than 5 years) and we have quality posters who may have just joined the site this year. Why should that honestly matter? We want to site to grow, so new members will keep joining up. And a good way of doing that is by having quality discussions about the topics at hand. I think honestly we need more people starting up threads (and I'm talking about quality over quantity here of course), to get PHT more active again etc. Perhaps I need to start getting back into that more again.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) Ugh, he's the worst player in baseball this season. The guy looks like a mediocre hitting pitcher. And yet it was only his 1st time up in the majors IIRC. Reminds me of the Brian Anderson situation from 2006. He's worth perserveering with because of his defensive ability, plus he'll be cheap for a few more seasons at least.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) If Garcia is healthy he will be a hot FA with many teams out for his service. At this point the best the White Sox could offer him is Loiza's long spot or a minor league spot, both of which he would likely not want since he could walk on to playoff contenders and be in their rotaiton (again, assuming he's healthy) Bingo. He'll go to a team such as the Mets or Yankees who'll offer him a guaranteed spot in their rotation. Loaiza and Broadway are the backup options, and they're pretty good ones at that when you look at what other teams have depth wise.
-
QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) i'd be more worried about our pitchers getting overworked. Hence why Loaiza was signed, and they've got Broadway as a fallback option in AAA. No more rotating 5th starters, and plenty of depth to use, so the Sox have plenty of options there.
-
Fields' needs to be playing everyday regardless. He's starting to swing to bat better in Charlotte, so let him keep doing that until at least the ASB, and then re-assess what you want to do with him from there. He shouldn't be used until September IMHO, unless one of Konerko or Thome goes on the DL (which could still happen with Paulie for example). But you have to remember that Konerko is also a big time 2nd half hitter. You're going to want him in the lineup as much as possible probably down the stretch.
-
B-More's obviously the main option, but they've got Cintron there now IIRC. Realistically, Uribe is only going to be a backup for almost every team. Hence the Sox need to look at teams that need a backup infielder, but then the Sox need to find an upgrade from Uribe themselves if they trade him, and I don't know if they can do that. My guess is, Uribe stays here for the season, and then leaves for free agency.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) I think that's a tough sell. KC, Buffalo, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, and Baltimore are all pretty awful. I'd take Buffalo ahead of the Bears for sure (although losing Marshawn Lynch would really hurt). Edwards - Evans - Hardy is a nice combo though. KC would be close, but they still have Larry Johnson, and their O-Line "should" be better. Who knows how Croyle will do. Miami has a better RB in Ronnie Brown, and their O-Line is fairly good, and they have Ginn Jr at WR. I'd take their offense. Atlanta could be pretty bad also, but Michael Turner could rush for 1500 yards this season, and they have Roddy White. Depends on the QB situation. Baltimore has some decent WR's and McGahee. SF has Frank Gore, and I would expect Smith to be better under Mike Martz (but who knows how that'll go). Right now I'd say KC, SF and CHI have the 3 worst offenses.
-
Replace Uribe or Ozuna with Chin - Lung Hu.
-
Also, right now, would you argue that the Bears have the worst offense on paper out of any team in the NFL?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) They don't have the criminal records that Cedric does though. Perfect fit. No, but they have talent.

Wow I didn't know Robertson had been that bad. And then I saw Willis gave up 8ER in less than 2IP last night. And he's walked something like 22 hitters in 11IP. How's that 3/29M extension working out for you now Detroit?

Comical trade proposal from a NY Post writer involving the Sox
DBAHO replied to wbicker2424's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's the NY Post, so that should be an instant red flag. But it's pieces like this, that want you to see the Yankees fail. Because when they do, they think they can trade their trash for someone else's gold. Not this time. -
QUOTE (mreye @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) Will Marriotti write about that today? He'll probably say he was surprised that they didn't jump on the field and attack the 1st base umpire or something, and write a whole editorial just on that.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) Just like Australia then! I'm living with a bunch of Brits and they're all moaning and whining. Not me though, although today was a bit much. Just so humid in New York, way more than I expected.
