  1. Well obviously if you are a big name player and have broken a record as important as the HR one, people are going to hate you a little more than they hate Robert Valido who I guess mostly everyone would not have heard of, even though they are both cheats.
  2. QUOTE(scenario @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Wait a second... Kenny's rationale for not wanting Andruw Jones was his low OBP, striking out too much, and not making the pitchers work deep into the count. If defense was KW's priority, Jones would be leading, rather than off the list. Well defense is still obviously important, I mean look at the Orlando Cabrera acquisition. But he wants guy that have good defensive skills, but are not butchers at the plate e.g Your Juan Uribe's. Probably hence the low interest in Jones.
  3. Well I guess because Gonzalez has cracked the majors and can play a few positions. Maybe Ozzie likes him, I don't know. We'll see how Hernandez does. But would the Sox have gotten something for him in a trade BearSox? I doubt it. We've got enough marginal bullpen guys as it is. Losing 1 ain't going to kill this organization. But Hernandez is in a good situation in Oakland though, very good ballpark for him to pitch in. Just remember that if his numbers turn out decent enough.
  4. Well if he was willing to be a 4th OF I'd look at it. But I think he wants a starting job somewhere. And I've heard he's not exactly easy to get along with in the clubhouse IIRC.
  5. Depending on the price, I would be all over this. The Sox in order to have any hope in 2008 and beyond need to make these high risk type of signings, and hope they pay off. Ramirez could play at 2B if they decide he's a better option than Richar, or play him in CF (if we don't asign Rowand of Fukudome). Playing at the Cell would surely help Ramirez settle in quickly offensively.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 02:47 AM) I love Favre. He's a great QB and he's class. Who do you think should've gotten it? Romo.
  7. Yeah I posted this about this time yesterday, and there's really been nothing to add on it. So I guess it's a wait and see.
  8. Also I may be going out on a loop here, if we acquired Bedard, I know he's a Canadian native and Toronto have a big interest in him. They were rumored to have offered Burnett and McGowan for Bedard (I think as a minimum). Would something like that interest you in spinning of Bedard possibly (the Jays may even add another prospect possibly)? EDIT: I guess they could maybe offer Casey Janssen as well?
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) If they can, then the Orioles are even dumber than I imagined. And an offer of Gio straight up should beat that. Might as well make it Gio + Richar, as we'll have basically no use for Danny if we acquire Roberts. Of course I don't think that would be enough, we'd probably have to offer another prospect. I wonder if they would be interested in Anderson though, considering Patterson may leave in FA?
  10. Wite's got a new best friend. But hey at least we got a new leadoff hitter now right? I'd hate to see Barry creaking around in LF on those 43-44 y.o legs. If he's signing with anyone, it's probably going to be as a DH. And that's if anyone actually wants to touch him, which I think very highly unlikely right now. For a team supposedly meant to be built on defense and pitching (and yes our pitching is not very good right now, I know), Barry doesn't fit into that.
  11. Minor league FA addition at best. He's probably hoping for a bench job though.
  12. Yikes, this is going downhill fast. Surely this is a last resort at best?
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) I heard today the Marlins are guaranteed $60 million in revenue if they don't sell 1 ticket. Loria is printing money. Yeah there's no real incentive for him to build a winner right now, what would the team likely to move in the future, and the amount of money he's making. I don't know if Loria will be that happy if the Devil Rays were to get their new stadium as well. That team needs to be moved ASAP. Ship em off to Portland.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) That OBP is exactly what you'd expect from a guy who posted a .400 OBP in the minors. Kotchman is extremely comparable to the 23-24 year old Konerko who also struggled initially after being one of the top prospects in baseball. Kotch just had a lost season last year due to Mono. Kotchman probably will never be more than a 20-25 HR guy, but he'll find a way to get on base at a .400 clip in his prime, which, unlike Konerko, is in the not-to-distant future, and his defense is about 15-20 runs better than Konerko's. If Kotchman hit at the Cell as well, it would help him probably hit another 5HR's or so, which would raise his OPS a bit. Of course he has to prove that what he did this season wasn't a one off. If he can stay healthy (which has always been the issue for him) I think he'll show it wasn't.
  15. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) could someone post the link to the original story? It was on Yahoo Sports yesterday, written by Gerry Fraley I think.
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) You've got a point. He knows we text back and forth all the time, but I'm basically saying I wouldn't let anything progress. I dunno, it's messy and complicated. I'm really trying to stay on the up and up with this. I also don't know if she knew what she was saying last night. I'm giving them their distance. You're a towel. I suppose that would be something you would need to find out for sure before you do ANYTHING here. Maybe she's just on the rebound, I don't know, I wouldn't be taking advice from someone halfway across the world anyway about this.
  17. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Yeah, that's why Thomas would almost certainly be part of the deal. I know they like Noc as well, that just doesn't seem like great value for Pau though. Granted his stock has dropped a bit with his start, but so has Tyrus' and basically everyone else's on the Bulls' team. Plus not that long ago they wanted Deng and Gordon for him. That'd be quite a drop-off in price. Of course the problem is that with Gay around you don't really need Deng, and if Miller sticks around Gordon isn't that crucial either, and Hinrich has got to be poisonous right now with his contract/poor play, so they might have to take that offer. I don't know if that offer (Thomas + Noc + future 1st) for Pau would even work cap - wise. The Bulls should be trying to dump Wallace's contract on someone. I wonder if ther Kings would consider a Wallace plus pieces for Bibby offer for example? Because I guess one of Deng / Gordon / Hinrich may have to leave if they wanted to acquire Pau. Also I didn't get what you meant with comparing Gay to Deng etc. since they're on different teams. Unless you meant Gasol?
  18. I imagine Cabrera's power numbers will certainly increase this season. He hit a lot of doubles towards the wall in LF at Angels Stadium (think I read that somewhere), and those doubles could turn into HR's quite easily at the Cell. Nevertheless, it'll be nice having a tough out like him in the #2 spot.
  19. Yep well obviously more money needs to go into player development, scouting, international signings etc. And I think at least we've started taking steps in that direction based on the events of this season with the firing of Shaffer, new scouts being hired etc. I don't think it's ALL doom and gloom for our farm system, we do have some decent pitching prospects, but unfortunately it's our position prospects which are REALLY lacking. That's an area that needs to be addressed ASAP, whether it's thru more signings from the D.R and Latin American region (just like that 16 y.o SS that was signed a month or 2 back). As for the money and how we spend it, well payroll has gone up over the past 5 seasons, and I hope that continues again. People say $100M ain't what it used to be, but imagine if you're the Pirates or Devil Rays and only have payrolls of about $30M. Of course that $100M needs to be spent better. Paying Contreras $10M for example is not a good allocation of your resources. But unfortunately, that's the price of established starting pitching I guess.
  20. Dye should improve his splits against lefties IMHO after a down season. Quentin was pretty solid against both righties and lefties, but should be an upgrade over the likes of Pods and Erstad against lefties. So I think there's at least 2 upgrades on last season to get the ball rolling. We've got some good RH power hitters in Konerko and Fields who should always do well against LHP.
  21. Any chance you can switch rooms? (Wouldn't have the slightest idea of what rules there are of living in a dorm etc.)
  22. That's quite the pickle you've gotten yourself into now Alex.
  23. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) If they can get Gasol for that, he better be on the Bulls by 9 AM on the 15th. I seriously doubt that though. Well apparently Iavaroni loves Thomas and thinks he could be the next Shawn Marion in his high paced offense. Nothing will happen until the Feb Trade Deadline anyways, but Gasol just doesn't really fit into that offense right now. A lineup of Milicic at C blocking shots, with Thomas and Gay at PF and SF with Miller at SG and Stoudemire / Lowry / Conley at PG is pretty decent for the future.
  24. Roberts is basically the face of the franchise in Baltimore. I have a hard time believing that Angelos would consent to him being traded. That's unless Andy MacPhail convinced him somehow that it was in the best interests of the franchise.
  25. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 09:22 AM) Don't trade Crede. Plus with all the talk about the Sox looking at 2B upgrade-apparently Richar isn't as good as we were told?- Iguchi is not a bad option for the Sox 1 - Where would Fields play if we keep Joe? Platoon at LF with Quentin? 2 - Richar showed good plate discipline this year, he's young with potential to grow, and most importantly, he's cheap. He should be starting in 2008.
