  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) i believe it was said previously that Scott is going to be left out of the starting lineup and may be traded. He has a career .366 OBP. Yeah I posted that after it was speculated that the Astros would target either Rowand or Hunter, leaving Lee in LF and Pence in RF, hence Scott would become available. If you were looking at acquiring a CF on the cheap (for say a bullpen arm, because Houston doesn't have many good relievers), Scott would be an excellent option for mine. Plus he can play all 3 OF spots I think.
  2. Yeah I'm not very happy with this, as I think we could of gone down the trade route and acquired a better player. Everyone says that if he comes into shape etc. that he can bounce back, but I don't see it happening. He's had 3-4 seasons here and has gone downhill defensively since he was first acquired, he won't change his tendencies on his swing, so I don't see an improvement coming with his offense (when you have 2 sub .300 OBP seasons, that says it all really), while his defense (range factor I think was the stat) was down from around .940 to under .900 in 2007. That shows how bad of a season he really did have. He has a lot of talent obviously, but I don't think we'll ever see him put the total package together. I'd still like to go after Furcal and use Uribe as bait in some other deal.
  3. I'm late, but Happy B-Day YAS!!!
  4. Well I can't see a Fields, Broadway and Gio deal happening. No doubt we would include the last 2 pieces. But adding Cabrera and trading Fields would make it likely we'd have to keep Crede, so we'd be paying about $15-16M just for the 2 of those, and I don't think that'll occur with our payroll flexibility, unless we then traded Crede as well. But as per the thoughts of the other thread, Miggy's hardly in shape to play 3rd base anymore. But I guess KW is capable of anything. Also hate the Eckstein link. I hate Uribe, but I don't want Eckstein to replace him. There has to be another solution out there (e.g Furcal or Hu). As for the Konerko to the Angels link, if they (the Halos) miss out on A-Rod, then yes I could maybe see something happening here possibly, if the Sox wanted to go down that route.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) Loving it; they're watchable again!--I don't expect us to be in the top of the East or anything, but this coaching change is apparently going to do us a lot of good. O-Bie's actually a pretty underrated coach. He got Boston to the conference finals, and then got Philly to a winning record and got fired because he rubbed some players (Iverson) the wrong way. Still the season for the Pacers depends on the health of Tinsley and O'Neal. At least Dunleavy and Granger have emerged nicely though.
  6. Now this is interesting; Now could the Jon Garland talks be back on? Wade will probably need to make a good early impression, so some of their top prospects could maybe be had. And they'll have to replace Jason Jennings in the rotation most likely. The Sox could have interest in LHP Troy Patton, or one of their C prospects in J.R Towles (.976 OPS in AA) and Max Sapp? On the major league front, maybe the likes of Chris Burke and Luke Scott will be made available, but they don't have many relievers besides Chad Qualls.
  7. And I thought Vizquel could be had for 1 year at 2-3M. Wow did Brian Sabean overpay or what. A trade could be the best scenario. Certainly would rather Wilson instead of Eckstein for the same sort of contract.
  8. Also I think Tank Johnson will be playing for the Cowboys this week as well.
  9. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:15 AM) Which conveniently leaves out Tim Purpura. Well we just have to hope that there's a good market out there for Garland if the likes of Silva are signed quickly (and it looks like Schilling is re-upping in Boston), and a GM such as Bill Bavasi who is known to overpay to get his guy, does so with Garland. But I mean, all this talk about contracts etc. couldn't the Sox just re-sign Garland to an extra 2 or 3 years, and then possibly dangle him at the deadline (if there's no no trade clause attached) to get more value out of him that way?
  10. Is PNC Park meant to be a hitters park or a pitchers park also? I can't remember (I think it maybe a hitters park), but I'm just trying to find out if there's some potential for Wilson to improve his numbers if he moved to the Cell. I think he's been used as a #2 hitter quite a bit as well, which is a need for this offense, unless you want Fields in the #2 spot again (which I certainly don't).
  11. If you could acquire Wilson for next to nothing (or even offer them Uribe if they need a SS replacement), then yeah I'd look at that. If we gave up say a prospect though, the Pirates would probably have to pick up some of that contract. As for Greene, he's been mentioned here before, but the Padres would also need a SS replacement obviously, so I don't see them trading him unless they get a real good offer.
  12. Hmmm, looks like my off-season wish maybe coming true;
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) Ok, good...had me worried there for a while. Well it really makes no sense for us to target him until he hits FA, as we have Fields ready to step in at 3B if Crede's dealt. He'd be a perfect 1B/DH replacement for Jim Thome once Thome's ready to retire in a couple of seasons.
  14. No I don't think it would be the best idea to acquire Miggy for some of the reasons above, but I'm just outlining what it would probably take to get a deal done from our end if we were to make such a move.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) Try 3. I'll just throw this scenario out there. Sox get Cabrera. Mariners get Garland plus another Sox prospect. Marlins get Gio Gonzalez, Balentien, Jeff Clement and another Sox prospect.
  16. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) Maybe for Cabrera is where you center a package around Garland... If this is Miggy we're talking about, then I would assume then Marlins would then trade Garland to the Mariners or Dodgers and try to get some of their premium prospects so it'd have to be a 3 team deal. And we'd probably have to give up one of ours as well. Gio Gonzalez perhaps?
  17. Adrian Peterson, wow. I wonder if the 6 teams who had a chance to draft him before Minny are second guessing themselves right now. Looks like it could be a tight one b/w Dallas and Philly tonight.
  18. Yeah scoring only 70 points against Milwaukee, that's not good. Of course the Bulls have been slow starters before and bounced back. And Greasy how bout those Pacers 3-0.
  19. Only 1 game though Dick, let's see how he does now teams know that he's actually capable of pulling games like that. Would still take Aldridge over him in both the short and long - term.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Hard to vastly underrate someone who will put up a .300 obp. Also Dbaho, come on, Jerry Owens is not even close to the player that Melky is. Especially defensively, not to mention offensively. Ok defensively for sure he is, I'll give you that. But offensively, I'm not so sure. Here are his numbers this season, .273/.327/.391. That's a .718 OPS with only 13 stolen bases. So that's not great offensive production by any means. Owens for comparisons sake in the 2nd half of the season had numbers of .267/.324/.312. So obviously Cabrera has more power, but the OBP's are fairly similar. Melky's probably a .340-.350 OBP type of guy, which to me if he's not going to steal st least 25-30 bases doesn't mean he's a very good offensive player. At least say Crede can give you 25-30 HR's a season which he has proven before. Melky could do that in the future, but it's a wait and see. I dunno, I just guess because Melky plays for the Yankees, his value is higher than what it should be.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) You wouldn't trade Garland straight up for Hu but would (maybe) do it for Furcal? I'm just the opposite -- the Dodgers have very little leverage with Furcal right now, and getting Hu for Garland would be a great trade for Kenny. Well I think Furcal is primed for a real good season next year. He was pretty banged up this year, hence the .100 drop in OPS from his 1st season. But I wouldn't do it straight up for Garland, I'd ask something more in return. As for Hu, it's sort of like asking would you prefer Balentian straight up from Seattle or Hu, and is that enough for a SP who's proven in this market? Remembering what the Astros gave up for Jason Jennings last off-season, Jason Hirsh is a fairly similar rated prospect to Hu, albeit in a different position, and they got Taveras and Buckholz on top of that. So yeah, maybe my asking price is high, but I want more than Hu for Garland. We almost got Hirsh, Buckholz and Pence last off-season for Garland, but that was too much, but we should be able to find a happy medium b/w that, and say just getting Chin - Lung Hu for JG.
  22. I still think bringing in a replacement for Uribe at SS with a big upgrade e.g Furcal, should probably be this team's #1 priority. I just can't find any good reasons to justify bringing him back for $5M when he's offensive numbers have decreased every season since he's been here, while his defense was also down last season as well (there's a stat from the Hardball Times which backs up this theory). Of course say trading a starter for a young SS and young CF who could step in straight away would probably be an ideal situation.
  23. Yeah I should. I suppose I'm just a little hesitant on the Cavs. Are they going to have a hangover from last season? They're not a team who scores in big amounts, and if you can shut down James, they don't really have a lot of other quality scoring options. At best, I see them in the 5-8 range this season. Re-signing Sasha will help open up the court more though which is exactly what they need.
  24. I should add, are we going to get more for Crede now than at the deadline? Remember what we got for Tadahito Iguchi, an low A ball closer turning into a SP, he's a marginal prospect at best. If the Sox get a decent offer for Crede right now that improves the team, and helps us get younger, don't be suprised if KW pulls the trigger. It's just a question of whether that type of offer would actually be out there.
  25. Yeah it would certainly be an adjustment. But I mean it may be a little short - term pain for some long - term gain. So Fields make may some more errors at 3rd then Crede obviously, but I assume we'll acquire someone to replace him in LF as well, and continue to rebuild the aging core of the group. So my thinking was Crede for a young LF'er who could step in for the next few years. What the Sox could do as well, work Garland and Crede into a package deal. Garland goes to say Arizona or Seattle, and Crede goes to the Yanks or Phillies, with pieces going elsewhere, and we get a real good package of young talent for both teams. Of course I don't see that happening, if KW thinks we can win next season, we'll most likely hang onto Garland.
