  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) I call it POWNED. Also, West Ham had an amazing game last weekend. It was one of the best EPL games I've seen all season, too bad they went down at the end and pretty much clinched the fact they won't be in the EPL next year (or I guess thats my understanding, you go down a league and than can come back up in a year???). And Arsenal is really struggling without its strikers. We have a lot of talented young guys but those younguns aren't able to capitalize and take advantage of scoring opportunities. Thanks to that we pissed away a game this past weekend and than lost our champions league game yesterday. Yes we certainly were. Funny how badly the Bulls played in the 3rd and we couldn't take advantage. And I'm thinking I'm the kiss of death when it comes to supporting sport teams. The Magic and West Ham have had real bad runs lately, the Cowboys lost in the playoffs because of a freak play, the Blackhawks suck, so I'm hoping that's not a precursor to the type of year the White Sox are going to have. Put simply on the Hammers, we're an attacking team and our defense is abysmal. On Arsenal it always seem they do a great job passing the ball around in the final 1/3rd but they never put the ball into the back of the net. They've never been the same team since Patrick Vieira left. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) I'm sorry Andrew, but Carlos Arroyo is one of the stupidest point guards in the NBA. He is the T.O. on offense. He's fallen back into old habits. For a brief period since he was acquired late last season and the 1st month of this season he was actually playing well. Since then, hasn't been good at all, like a lot of our players since the hot start.
  2. Absolutely INSIPID. Worst half of our season so far. Out rebounded by double figures by a smaller team. 4/12 from the line. Letting Ben Wallace and P.J Brown score in double figures combined in a half. Missed layups and turnovers around the basket. I hope they are getting ripped at right now. Brian Hill is on thin ice.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) (sigh) No. If he doesn't win the position, where's he going to end up? Charlotte. Once in Charlotte, when will he be promoted? When injury and/or ineffectiveness sidelines another pitcher. Do you believe he realistically stands a chance of outperforming Gonzalez or Danks in Charlotte, in regards to a potential 2008 opening? I don't. Well if Haeger does win the spot and then doesn't perform, I assume Floyd will be given the oppurtunity as the 5th starter. So yeah I mean it is important he does well in ST (although I don't really take into account what anybody does in ST because of the conditions and well it's the pre-season so I don't think you're going to try 100%), but it's not the end of the line for him if he doesn't. If the Sox find themselves out of contention at the deadline you could see SP's like Buehrle moved to give the likes of Floyd, Danks and Gonzalez a shot if they're down in Charlotte and doing well, although it's a hard environment for a pitcher to produce really good numbers. With Floyd, it's not going to happen overnight with him, because he's young and still has to go through the maturity process. Still I'm hoping we see some good progress with him at least this season, in terms of numbers whether he's in Charlotte or (hopefully) Chicago.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) Other than the Podsednik resigning, I have no problems with the offseason. The McCarthy move is ballsy, but I think we're getting more talent. Hopefully Danks can become a solid #3 for the Sox and Masset can be a strong reliever for a while. But that Pods signing... yugh. So useless. When he takes a roster spot away from Anderson or Eduardo Perez not gonna be a fun day. Agreed. I think KW is hoping that Pods is going to return to his pre 2005 ASB form, but I don't see that happening.
  5. A torn ACL is usually around a 12 month recovery time right?
  6. 3 years @42M with an option for a 4th. That's probably what KW is going to offer here. And honestly, if you can get a deal like that done, I'd probably do it. But I'd make sure a no trade clause is NOT included. Why you ask? Well to keep our options open. We've seen the demand for starting pitching this off-season. In the next off-season if a John Danks is ready to crack that rotation, you can trade a Garland or Vazquez for prospects, to help solidify this team as a contender over the long - term, free up payroll AND let a young stud into the rotation. For KW to come out with 2 starting pitchers locked up for the next 3-4 seasons, while getting 4 pitching prospects for 2 our of old starters, I think he's done a very good job this off-season, and one that has been underrated.
  7. It's an interesting deal and one I didn't expect to see done so early. I am pro Vazquez. I think the Javier Vazquez we saw in the majority of the 2nd half when he was dominant, is the Vazquez we're more likely to see in the future. The Sox coaching staff have obviously seen something with him, and recommended to KW to get him locked up, becuase they want him signed below market value below his numbers improve, which I think they will on his 2006 season at least. So from that point of view, we could be saving a few million here by re-signing him, instead of him going to salary arbitration, and that could be the difference in re-signing a Dye, Buehrle or Iguchi in the upcoming off-season.
  8. Bit of a damning article;
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) Wow, I thought Mcgahee was for sure going there. Wasn't really worth giving up a 1st day pick for him, when you can sign Henry as a FA basically. Nice signing by the Broncos, especially considering what Ahman Green got.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) When Briggs turned down that very fair offer of 5 years at over 6 million a year a while back, he should have known this was the risk he was taking. However with that said, all those Bears fans who think Briggs can just be replaced by a Leon Joe or Jamar Williams are sadly mistaken. There is a reason this team was bad in-between Holdman and Colvin leaving and Briggs emerging, and it's not just the QB. Briggs has probably seen what Adalius Thomas got, and is upset he can't get that type of long - term deal from someone, because the Bears won't let him.
  11. Nice to see Floyd do fairly well. Hopefully it builds his confidence up.
  12. QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) So Ozzie won't know who he is. Someone had to say it.
  13. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) BMac makes amends. i guess the "kid" is more of a man in this gesture. Here's the article. Guillen, McCarthy mend relationship And that shows something about B-Mac as a person. Really this situation shouldn't have been one in the 1st place, and that's the problem here.
  14. It's a shame with what's happened here, and it's becoming a common thing. A player moves on from the White Sox and he gets trashed, unless he's one of Ozzie boys e.g Freddy Garcia. To say that you could have made the playoffs, and didn't because of 1 player, is a cop - out, simple as that. Baseball is a team sport, you don't rely on 1 guy to put you over the top, and Ozzie better than anyone after what out pitching staff did in the 2005 playoffs, should realize that. I hope B-Mac has a great career and proves him wrong.
  15. 30. Go me.
  16. At least it can only go upwards from here right?
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 12:08 PM) Having Darko and Dwight in the low post is causing alot of match up problems for any team. Add in a point guard who can drive and dish and cause another match up problem can move them up in the East big time. I like what the Bulls were doing to Howard though. It's almost a GIVEN that Vince Carter will be playing for Orlando next season, unless he goes to Charlotte instead. What I'd like to do is package Nelson and Hedo and try to get that big PG we need. He doesn't have to be a good scorer, but he needs to play good D and be able to distribute the ball. Unfortunaely there's not many of those around. Oh god how I would love to have Deron Williams (don't get jealous now Willie). At least now Darko is showing flashes of what he's capable of now.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) Jas, let's unleash the Soxtalk IPO upon the world. Ha. If you released that in Aussie Stock Exchange and said we were Exploration Miners looking for Uranium, it'd probably do pretty damn well. And unfortunately the flow on effect has been felt here. My shares got HAMMERED today, but it creates a good buying oppurtunity while they're down for the moment.
  19. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 04:39 AM) I dont know... we did trade Freddy for Gavin Floyd.. I thought we could have gotten a bunch more in return for a top of the rotation starter and proven winner such as Freddy with the current market exploding like it is. Who knows what Kenny will do w/ Buerhle at this point. Don't forget Gio in that deal. He's the more valuable commodity out of the 2.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 03:05 AM) Darko looked good, but we just dont have the size to box out two monsters. He forced a few shots he shouldnt have. Jameer Nelson is the only thing that keeps me from really liking the Magic, the guy is a whiner and did nothing but try and draws fouls for the last 5 min. Thats how I felt watching Butch from Wisco this sunday. On Nelson I'm startin to think we really we need a bigger point guard in there. He's not good defensively Jameer, and in the long - term that's something we need to look at.
  21. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Hawks trade stewart and 2007 6th RD pick to tampa for alexeev http://www.thefourthperiod.com/ Isn't he the guy who said he was going to be a star this season (or something like that)? And I would have liked to get Boyes while his value was down. Wonder if Kuk for Boyes would have done it? I rate him higher than Williams.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) Even though his minor league statistics are hardly eye-popping, I'd prefer him over Floyd for several reasons: lefthanded arm with good fastball, absence of injuries, deceptive delivery. Southpaws are obviously a preference within the division considering the various lefthanded power hitters. What you have with Floyd is someone drafted high who gradually lost his fastball and his confidence. With Castro, perhaps you have a top flight starter. If not, you have one hell of a reliever. Still I think you're overrating his value a little. Remember he's a guy who made the jump from high A ball to the big leagues last season. And sure he may be injury free ATM, but with his build, is that definitely going to continue, I don't know. Still his numbers with the Philly (albeit a small sample size) were impressive.

Flash I'm a little suprised you rate Fabio Castro so highly. Can you give me some thoughts on why that's the case, and why you prefer him over Gavin Floyd?
  24. Nice to see Darko pick it up tonight, and we finally come through with a W. For anyone that actually watched the game, how did he look? And Dwight with 11 TO's, picking up a triple double the bad way.
  25. QUOTE(rowandrules83 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) espnews just showed a highlight of shaun livingston (LAC) dislocating his kneecap. it was possibly the most gruesome thing i've ever seen Ouch. Well once I saw someone do that, and then try to whack the kneecap back in place, now that's gruesome. He hasn't had the best year though Livingstone, and I think many people were predicting a breakout year for him. Just another example of coming out too early in the NBA.
