  1. And good timing for him; What type of average, offensive performance etc. do you think BA is going to have to end up with, if he's going to win this CF job?
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) the price would probably be someone who can be a starting pitcher within the next couple years or one that has high upside; you're looking at probably Haeger, Sisco, or at the very best price, Aardsma and Phillips/Tracey. If Reed is dealt for less, I'd be extremely surprised. Regardless of how poorly he's performed, he's always had talent offensively, and he's a plus defender. This isn't a situation like there is in Milwaukee where they have about 6-7 guys who can play the OF when virtually none of them have options. I think Bavasi would be very interested in Phillips actually. Look at the SP he's targeted over the past couple of seasons, mainly Jarrod Washburn and Horacio Razmirez. Phillips fits that mould, and could be succesful at Safeco possibly. It's something really worth considering.
  3. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) Oh hell YES!!! Jeremy Reed....my man crush... If he comes back here, I guaranDAMNtee he'll be a stud again. He should be starting LF for us if that's the case forget that backup CF crap. Reed-Anderson-Dye and your sitting pretty. Reed is a sexy grinder. Ha I'd thought you'd be on board. And I think it's definitely worth considering if the price is right. And the price would be a Sean Tracey type of reliever, who's not going to make it with us, a Heath Phillips type of SP, or even Jerry Owens, but I think Reed has more potential in the long run than Owens. Reed could still make it as a starting OF, while Owens is probably going to be nothing more than a 4th OF. And considering we'd be dealing with Bill Bavasi here, anything is possible.
  4. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) I could swear he played a couple games on TV, I recall Hawk or DJ talking about how fast he was and indeed he is. Saw him rounding third base and the kid was flying. Yeah he's ceretainly got some wheels. I don't think he showed any plate discipline whatsover last season though down at Kanny, which he is really going to have to improve on.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) Reed is beginning to look more and more like Terrero. If we're choosing b/w him and Rowand though, considering you'd give up quite a bit less for Reed, I'd rather acquire Jeremy. And some reasons for that, are he's still young, he has room to improve especially power wise, and he has constantly put up better numbers away from Safeco. The only problem is that he's a lefty, which means he's pretty much a younger version of Darin Erstad I guess. Still if you could say make a Sean Tracey for Jeremy Reed deal, even if you had to stick Reed in AAA this season, I would make that deal. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Let me ask this question, if the deal is Aardsma and a prospect or two like Tracey,---not Logan--what do people say? The Phills would probably want someone with more experience than Logan, seeing how they have like 3 spots in the pen to fill. Right now, Aardsma looks like he could be the odd man out in the bullpen--esp. if the sox only take 11 pitchers. Haeger should be the long man in the pen--he's the only guy suited for it and it won't hurt his development. He had his AAA yr as a SP. That means even if the sox traded Aarsdma, they would have either Logan or Masset in AAA as the first bullpen arm to be called up. I'd still pass. The bullpen is going to have Jenks, Thornton, MacDougal as the definites. I still see 3 places up for grabs b/w Haeger, Aardsma, Masset, Sisco and Logan. Looking at that, only 1 of the lefties and 2 of the righties should make the team. I don't know if there's going to be a guaranteed spot for Haeger there like a lot of people are speculating right now, I think it's still very much in the air. So for the moment, unless the Sox brass definitely know who's going to make it, I'd rather keep Aardsma. You still have to remember in all of this, the bullpen was a major reason for our downfall last season.
  6. And then I saw this; Backup CF, if Anderson doesn't make the team, if you could acquire him cheaply?
  7. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) Nicely balanced team, speed and power, really important. Pitching would probably be the weaker part of your team but you have lots of upside. I love the Teahen pick, Ive found 3B to be a weak spot in the draft and Ill either take him or Crede as my third basemen, hes bound to put up bigger numbers. Bonds is also a great fantasy pick regardless of what others say. Whos corey hart? Nicely done, although Ive heard Timlin so far wins the closer spot position but just a rumor. Hart's a major sleeper in Milwaulkee with speed and power potential, going to be the Brewers everyday RF. I think Teahen will get OF elgibility as well which makes him more valuable.
  8. If Brian Anderson doesn't make the team, Mackowiak gets traded for a real backup CF. Say Jeff DaVanon for example.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) How is it rushing if the player earns the job? Well I don't take much stock into ST numbers. Brandon McCarthy did the exact same thing in 2005, and then got lit up in the 1st half of 2005 whenever he was in our rotation because he wasn't ready. Charlie Haeger's already at a disadvantage because he can't use his best pitch, so you can't really judge him on ST performances alone. I look at what Danks did last season, where he put up a 4.33 ERA in AAA. He's only had 70 IP at AAA ball, so I'd give him at least the 1st half of the season there, and if he deserves it, call him up into the rotation at mid - season.
  10. Rather it'd be Floyd as I don't want Danks to be rushed. And Charlie pretty much has no chance at the 5th starter's job, because he can't really make a positive impression in that thin Arizona air now can he.
  11. Question here; If you're trying to get the most attention for something, anywhere across the world, how would you go about doing it?
  12. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:20 AM) Philly fans are insane....on ESPN boards they are saying the Sox would have to deal them Thornton and/or MacDougal...there is no damn way I would trade either of those to for ARow....I'd rather shoot for Rios as others have said. Trading for Rios is actually an interesting scenario. The Blue Jays would want one of our starters, probably either Buehrle or Garland I'd imagine. However, and this is where it gets interesting, if you could get say Rios and a good young arm or 2 like David Purcey or Ricky Romero, that's something that could be worth looking at. Then you could trade Anderson to the Marlins for 2 of their good young arms, as they're desperate for a good young CF and would probably overpay for one. So in that scenario our chances of competiting in 2007 would be weaker, but we'd be much better in the long - term I'd say.
  13. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) That's if he's not traded for Rowand. Which considering our OF situation, our bullpen and the amount of lefty relievers we have, I don't think that would be a good move. Certainly not in the long - term anyways, and I don't see how it really helps us that greatly in the short - term.
  14. Crazy 1st period in Phoenix tonight. 5-3 Hawks, Koci involved in 2 fights, sounds like a very interesting game.
  15. Team #1. I drafted 6th and in a 12 team league. C - Victor Martinez (4th round) 1B - Prince Fielder (10th round) 2B - Brian Roberts (5th round) 3B - Alex Rodriguez (1st round) SS - Jimmy Rollins (3rd round) OF - Carl Crawford (2nd round) OF - Delmon Young (9th round) OF - Barry Bonds (16th round) UTIL - Jim Thome (7th round) SP - Felix Hernandez (6th round) SP - C.C Sabathia (8th round) SP - Chris Capuano (11th round) SP - Daniel Cabrera (17th round) SP - Scott Olsen (18th round) RP - Eric Gagne (12th round) RP - Jason Isringhausen (13th round) RP - Octavio Dotel (14th round) BENCH - Mark Teahen (15th round) BENCH - Chuck James (19th round) BENCH - Joel Pineiro (20th round) BENCH - Corey Hart (21st round)
  16. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) You can do whatever you want, but most of the people on the wait list wanted a head to head league... We used Rotisserie last season and it actually worked pretty well, a nice change from the usual H2H you have. Anyways, draft starts in a couple of hours.
  17. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 04:59 PM) I would be willing to move Tracey because he doesn't seem to have a future with the Sox. There are just too many pitchers ahead of him. I'd also be willing to move Logan. Logan seems very talented, but that old saying that you can't teach a 95 mph fastball...well, you can't teach BALLS either. Even though most seemed to disagree with me, I'm on record as losing respect for a man that talks to the press about the big boys picking on him. If you could get Rowand for spare parts such as Sean Tracey then I'd be more open to such a deal. But I don't want someone like Aardsma or Logan included. Why? Well on Logan, look how hard it is to find good lefty relievers. Look at what Jamie Walker got on the market this season. And sure their numbers can fluctuate from season to season, but Logan could be a guy who can help this team both now and in the future, in a position where it's hard to find quality. Aardsma fits the role of the hard throwing reliever KW and Ozzie have targeted. I can't see them giving him up now before he's even tossed a major league inning for us, especially after the way he finished the season off for the Cubs, which is why we traded for him in the 1st place. On our OF, it's a situation that yes needs upgrading. I don't consider Erstad or Podsednik everyday players. I think Anderson could grow into that role, but the Sox aren't likely to give him that chance again, even though they've done it to the likes of Joe Crede. But I don't really consider Aaron Rowand an upgrade. The 2004 Aaron Rowand would certainly be a HUGE upgrade, but what are the chances he puts up those type of numbers again. All this stuff about the intagibles he brings etc. I think is overrated. Sure it's important, but we brought in a similar guy already in Erstad, and intagibles weren't the reason we weren't in the playoffs last season. It was due to poor pitching in my mind.
  18. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) Sure. I was just pointing out that he was battling injuries for much of the second half. That Brian Anderson was tied offensively with a guy who'd been involved in collisions with teammates and walls, and who hadn't had a particularly impressive season since 2004, isn't very impressive to me. Then I raise you 2 questions from that; 1 - Why do you want to re-acquire Rowand, when he's put up OPS's in excellent hitting ballparks of .736 and .745 over the past 2 seasons, in exchange for some players who could help our bullpen this season in Aardsma and Logan when that was a major weakness for us last season, and not to mention the logjam in our OF situation that we have already? 2 - Look at where Brian Anderson and Aaron Rowand are in their respective careers so far. Who do you think will make the bigger jump in numbers this season? I know who I've got my money on.
  19. Rowand Post 2006 ASB - .257/.327/.407 Anderson Post 2006 ASB - .257/.301/.393 There's not a HUGE difference there is there. Have a look at the possible logjam of OF's we could have if we acquired Rowand for some bullpen pieces; Podsednik Erstad Dye Rowand Anderson Mackowiak Ozuna Terrero Eduardo Perez (would hit against lefties in a corner OF spot). We'd only be carrying what about 5 guys out of that group as well.
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) Oh, so now you've finally come around. Only took several years. Oh Flash, what can I say. I've always really felt that way, but I just haven't been on a crusade like you have. But you need both kind of arms still, but I would prefer a little more power impact arms in the system.
  21. So let's see how this makes sense. Ozzie wants 3 lefties for the pen. We have Thornton, Sisco (who I think should be starting down at Charlotte) and Logan. For our OF spots, Jermaine Dye is a given. Scott Podsednik will make the roster if he's healthy, and Darin Erstad is going to have a role so that's 3 guys. Rob Machowiak and Pablo Ozuna play as backup OF's, and Brian Anderson is either going to start in CF for the Sox or the Knights. So how do you fit a guy like Rowand into that mix, especially if then you have to replace Logan as well?
  22. Well a couple of people from Work are going on a Charity Walk for Oxfam, and it's about 60 miles. You can't run it, so you'd probably be walking for a good 18-24 hours. Not my cup of tea quite frankly.
  23. The Rotation? No, well not compared to this point last season when we had what we thought was the best rotation in baseball. The Bullpen? Well if you have a look at it now it looks alright. But then again at this point last year, we didn't think Neal Cotts and Cliff Politte were going to put up the numbers they did. They obviously weren't going to be THAT good again, but I didn't think they'd be that bad either. So I'd say I'd be wary, but I have a little cautious optimism right now.
  24. Most Improved - Brian Anderson. He has to be. Well he only will be if he actually gets the chance, which I'd say may not happen right now. So my contingency is Javy Vazquez who'll have around 15-18 wins with an ERA just above 4. Drop Off - Jermaine Dye. I still think he'll have himself a very good season, he just won't hit more than 40 HR's again. 30-35 is a more realistic target. X Factor - Scott Podsednik. Or rather the use of Podsednik. If he's firing the Sox are a much better. There's a minute chance of that happening. So when he's struggling, if Ozzie is going to keep him at the top of the lineup, we're going to struggle, simple as that.
  25. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Does not mean he destroys them... plain and simple. Like how you said nothing about fisk... qwerty you love Luis Terrero and you know it. You've been raving about him all off-season of course.
