Zambrano: Sign me before the season starts or I'm out
DBAHO replied to CSF's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 06:46 AM) Mariano Rivera made a similar threat to the Yankees yesterday, that really caught me by surprise. There was a rumor yesterday that the Red Sox would really go hard after Rivera if he hit FA, and it makes sens if Pineiro doesn't work out as the closer, Hansen doesn't come on and Papelbon thrives as a starter. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) They are dumb for letting go of Adrian Gonzalez so easily. Could of traded Tex for a very good package of players and not missed a beat. There was a reason Gonzalez was a 1st overall draft pick. Yeah that trade with the Padres really doesn't look good for Daniels right now. Eaton is with the Phillies now, Otsuka isn't happy he's not the closer anymore and I forgot who else they got, while Chris Young and Gonzalez were a major reason why the Padres won the division last season. Guess with Teixeira in front of him, Gonzalez never had much of a future with the Rangers though. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 04:10 AM) I believe Texas has learned their lesson well and wouldn't be on that list. But then again, I believe every large payroll team will be interested, so toss them back in the mix. The question will be, who's willing to gamble the gonads. I believe he is correct that no matter what he is likely to do this season, his value will not be much higher and pushing a deal now is in his best interest. The opposite for a guy like Buerhle who has a huge opportunity to increase his value to teams. I think Jon Daniels has shown though, if he'll pay for a guy it'll be a starting pitcher. And they could unload Teixeira who's a Bora$$ client to help free up the salary to make a play for Carlos Zambrano. The crazy thing when you look at stuff like this, is a year ago a 5 year $60M deal for Kevin Millwood looked pretty damn stupid. Now it doesn't look so bad when the likes of Lilly and Meche are getting $10-$11M a season. -
Yes I'm on board with Facebook over MySpace, just looks a lot more professional. Plus I can bug Heads whenever I want, so that's gotta be a plus.

Yep if Johan Santana could get a $175M contract when he hits Free Agency, and Zito got around a $125M deal, than Zambrano should demand a $150M deal. And Jim Hendry, well you dug your own grave with this one, so enjoy the consequences. -
Wonder what Wade Phillips is feeling right now. Apparently Pete Carroll is a candidate. He'd want total control though, which means goodbye A.J Smith. Today's news is good for the Cowbosy as well since we want the Chargers LB Coach as our new defensive co-ordinator, otherwise it's Todd Bowles's job. As for other candidates, maybe a Dan Reeves (who uses the 3-4), or a coach that uses that defence, otherwise the likes of Merriman wouldn't be as good. Or maybe a Mike Singletary, or a Norv Turner perhaps? But as for this whole situation, the Chargers really didn't handle it well. They've lost 3 of their major coaches, and they could of kept 2 if they played their cards right.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 05:04 AM) Walleye actually ran the league last year? I never got any info on that at all. Who else was in it? Yeah that's right, although I don't know if there are any other people from Soxtalk besides myself who are actually in it. I use find out via E-Mail anyways if he's starting up the league again.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) Very surprised by this signing. The first thing that popped into my head was his homer against Buehrle on opening day. I think the Sox will wait and see how Mack, Pods, Brian and Perez all play in ST before possibly moving Pods to the DL, Anderson to AAA, Mack to another team, or seeing if Perez will be Bucky Jacobsen's replacement. That's something that has come into my mind now regarding Anderson. It almost seems he's really going to have to produce from the get go in ST, because if he doesn't, with these guys that they've brought in, he could find himself down in Charlotte sooner rather than later (although I certainly hope that isn't the case).

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 10:30 AM) Problem is that they're both lefties. And I must admit, I really questioned KW's return on Garcia and his trading of McCarthy...but I'm really starting to like the look of this team going into 2008 and beyond. And if he can turn Pods into something decent and have a platoon in LF, I'd be ecstatic. Hence why bringing in a quality RHH OF was a need for mine going into the off-season, and why it's a shame Erstad isn't a RHH. Also I think that makes Mackowiak available in the right deal, although his versatility if he was actually used in those spots, makes him a very valuable commodity to have off the bench. And I agree with your last statement. It may not have looked all that promising early, but KW has done 3 things this off-season. Get good young pitching to replace the guys in our rotation over the next few years, fix some small needs such as hitting LHP with good bench guys and backup players, and improving the pen.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 09:47 AM) Unless you're willing to give the Padres Fields or Sweeney, Towers would die laughing at that proposal. I don't believe you'd have to give up a prospect that was THAT good. Remember than Linebrink has been rumored to been dealt for about the past 6-9 months now. The Rowand for Linebrink rumors were obviously coming from Philly's end, because now they've realised that Rowand is nothing more than a good 4th OF. San Diego needs a leadoff hitter to replace Roberts, Marcus Giles hits a lot better at the #2 spot. Is Pods an everyday OF? No, but they have guys who can platoon with him, and they may think that Pods could rebound in the NL. Rowand probably has slightly more value than Pods at this stage, hence why'd you have to throw in a prospect. But I don't think it has to be one of those guys, especially after Linerbik only put up a 3.74 ERA in 2006 (even though I think he'll rebound this season).

Apparently the cap is going to rise to $46M next season as well. With that in mind, keeping Khabi until the off-season, and then trading him for a package of young players and or picks makes more sense. Right now, we'd have to take a max salary guy or close to in return. I think it's a given Smoke is going to be dealt though. Should be able to get around a 2nd round pick for him, considering Nagy brought in a 1st today from the Stars - Coyotes trade.

Looks like KW has recognised our weakness against tough LHP against the likes of Santana, Sabathia etc. and has decided to do something about it. As Keith said, trade Podsednik. Trade his ass with a prospect for Linebrink. Get Perez on the bench, work a Machowiak / Erstad rotation in LF. Too many times we have laid a goose egg against these tough lefties. Now with Perez and Hall possibly in the lineup, it gives us 2 guys who can hit lefties and OPS's over .800 against them (I think Hall has an .800OPS against lefties, but not 100% sure). In those tight ballgames, having 2 extra guys who can hit LHP well could make a big difference in a tight division race when it's all said and done.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 05:46 AM) completely recockulous I'd sue As Apu once said "Hands off my Jerky Turkey". Can't really say Beef Jerky is big down here, you never see it anywhere. We're more peanuts and chips people down here, although the health food snacks are coming in thick and fast. McDonalds is offering a happy meal with pasta and milk instead of a burger for instance.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) Wow, what a frantic ending to today's Hawks game. Hawks hold on to win 5-4, but they needed two key stops by Khabibulin to hold on. Fun to watch, for sure. They're 4-2 on this road trip now, and it brings Savard's record back up to 15-15-5. And looking at that overall, and with the talent level of the team, I think Savard has done a pretty good job. All this team needs is are some bonafide top 6 forward besides Havlat and Ruutu and for the young D to keep improving.

I'll be in the leagues I was in last year, League #1, the Keeper League, and Walleye's League. Can't remember if there was another.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
DBAHO replied to AssHatSoxFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
And to do it against Portland of all teams (although Nate McMillan actually has them on the upswing a little). -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:54 AM) They'll likely just stick with their Cruz/Sledge, because it'll be good enough for what they need. See I don't know if that's going to be 100% correct or not. Giles has shown in his history that he's a guy who hits much better in the #2 spot than leading off. So if they could acquire a leadoff hitter for that LF spot, I think it'ssomething they could still definitely look at. And it's not like Sledge hit well last season (although I do like Cruz and his OBP, but that BA needs to increase).

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) Obviously if you could get Linebrink over here for Pods and a mid-level prospect, you make the deal. He is killer on LH, which is always nice to have for guys like Hafner-Sizemore-Nixon-Mauer-Morneau-DeJesus-Teahen. However, I just don't know if he would see in the innings that he might want/deserve. Whats his GB/FB ratio look like. Why can't I find that on ESPN? http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/stats/pl...tName=linebrink 39.4% GB% in 2006.

Due to the inactivity of threads on PHT ATM, I decided to try and get the ball rolling a little here. There's been rumors for the past week or 2 about Scott Linebrink, possibly being dealt to the Philies for Aaron Rowand. Now San Diego already have Mike Cameron in CF, so I can't really see them having a big need for Rowand. BUT, they lost Dave Roberts in the off-season, and are going with a Sledge / Cruz Jr. platoon in LF for the moment, with Marcus Giles probably leading off. So I'm wondering if the Padres would have some interest in Scott Podsednik. And yes Pods being injured isn't going to help matters. But if we chucked in a prospect as well, would you do say Adam Russell and Scott Podsednik for Linebrink? Now our pen is pretty full at the moment. And Linebrink regressed a little last season. But imagine having a pen of Jenks, MacDougall, Thornton, Aardsma and either Sisco or Logan and adding Linebrink to that mix. Having Linebrink bounce back would be a huge boost to the pen, and it'd allow for a 3 way competition b/w Sweeney, Anderson and Erstad for those 2 OF spots. Thoughts peoples?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 11, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Yeah I think Greinke can come back and can be a solid starter too. Also, Luke Hudson had some fantastic starts towards the 2nd half of the season, especially against us. Their rotation can actually be a solid one of all goes right. Meche and Perez both pitch to their capabilities, Hudson shows that his few dominant starts werent all fluky, Greinke returns and than they will eventually get Elearton back who is a solid back end of a rotation guy. I know Moore got chastised for some of his moves, e.g signing Meche at $11M per and trading for Gload, but the signs are there for a revival for that franchise over the next few seasons. Rotation wise they're lookin pretty decent as you've said. And Moore wants good young power pitchers. Tyler Lumsden is a guy you could be seeing for the Royals in the not so distant future. Sweeney's $11M contract comes off the books at the end of the season. Gordon and Butler should be pernament fixtures from 2008, and maybe Justin Huber could actually get a shot for a change.
-
The Indians and Tigers would be neck and neck. Our rotation has the potential to be able to get back into this tier but that's dependent upon Buehrle bouncing back and Floyd or whoever is the 5th starter at least being able to post an ERA under 5 as a minimum. The Twins are really going to miss Liriano. Garza and Perkins may not even be in the rotation on opening day because they signed Ramon Ortiz (around $3M deal) and Sidney Ponson. Woul be great for us if that was the case.

Reds give Harang 4 years, 36.5 million deal
DBAHO replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) That is correct. Krivsky makes up for a brilliant move by matching it with an awful one after Arroyo's flukey season last year. The league figured out his curveball in the 2nd half, and it won't be so easy for him in '07. Exactly. By the end of this season, the N.L should have figured out his breaking stuff, and he certainly wouldn't put up the same numbers he did in 2006 for the next 3 to 4 seasons. -
An older song, and one out of left field, but for anyone who gets the English Premier League Highlights Show, would instantly recognise this music. Personally I think it's a great song; Premier League Anthem

Perfect scenario for me for Sisco is that he's given the whole season to start games down in Charlotte. This is a team although we're trying to win now, we're trying to be better in the future. And I think if you let Sisco develop as a starter, he's going to help you win more games later on as a starter than he would at the moment as a situational lefty. So what's my solution? Sign a FA lefty reliever. I don't know who's left out there on the market from the top of my head, but there should be a couple of guys you can at least give minor league contracts too. Otherwise I would prefer to have Logan with the Sox, and Sisco starting down at Charlotte. Possible short - term pain for a lot of long - term gain.
