Nice to see he has a little hope still at re-signing him. And maybe, just maybe, they could find some common ground (because you never know what's going to happen with the market in the future). QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) I believe the woman that brought up that question to Williams with proof in hand was one of our own, Steff. At least I'm pretty sure, I also give her mad props You know, you could be right. Would be pretty cool if it was the case again.

The fact is, we're never going to offer Mark Buehrle a 5 year deal, because that's not the method this organization uses to lock up it's pitchers long - term. 3 years, take it or leave it. And I mean I see this, and I think to myself, we should just trade Mark now, get something for him while we can. But you have consider a couple of things here. If you trade Buehrle, you're going to need another SP to replace him. Pretty much most of the SP's are gone in FA now, from Tomo Ohka to Jeff Weaver etc. And we're probably going to get 2 draft picks for Buehrle if he leaves. So my idea would be this, keep him until the deadline, and depending on where we are in the standings, if a team makes a damn good offer, then you trade him, otherwise keep him and hopefully we contend.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) If the Bulls give up Deng AND Thomas for the fragile Spainyard, I give up on thinking Pax has done a great job. That would be so bad, UGH. Any and all trades should revolve around Hinrich, Nocioni, and PJ Brown, end of story, IMO. You CAN NOT trade Gordon (he's shown he can play the 1), Thomas, or Deng. No no no. And that was a TERRIBLE trade by Miami (I said that from day 1 though). I know they won a ring, but: 1. It had almost nothing to do with broken down Shaq. That was all D Wade, a Dallas gag, and the refs. 2. Shaq's contract is going to kill them for years. 3. Can you imagine that team with Haslem, Butler, Odom, Wade, and Mourning? Yeah, that coulda won something anyways. And due to those factors, that team has very little besides Wade, Haslem, Dorrell Wright as a future guy, and a broken down old Shaq along with Mourning. That depth is a myth IMO. Duhon sucks, Sweetney is bigger than a whale and couldn't jump over 2 nickels, Khryapa is AWFUL, Malik Allen can't do anthing except hit 15 foot jump shots (which even I can do), Andre Barrett blows, Adrian Griffin blows, and Skiles won't play the 2 rooks for some reason. I wouldn't really call Gasol that injury prone. He had that 1 injury which cost him 26 games back in 04-05 and the broken foot at the World's but besides those 2, he's been pretty healthy. Miami made that trade, because they thought Shaq was the guy who would help put them over the edge. And they were basically the only team willing to trade for Shaq, who could match up with the Lakers cap-wise. In any deal with the Bulls, Gasol is easily going to be the best player. The thing is with Deng, yes he has turned into a very nice player, but is he going to help you win a championship? You have a guy in Nocioni who can easily jump into the SF spot, and give you just about the same amount of production. Tyrus Thomas is a guy who's just raw, very raw. It's going to be 2, 3 years minimum before he start to be a real impact player at this level. And P.J Brown is basically just an expriring contract who can sometimes give you a double-double, easily replaceable. If you compare Shaq at his age with Gasol right now, you'd have to think teams would be willing to give up more for Gasol in a deal, even though he's not the bigger name player obviously (but he's better). Every team in this league could use Gasol. Hell I'm hoping Otis Smith is on the phone offering a deal revolving around Darko Milicic (I just don't know if he's ever going to get it) and either Grant Hill (big expiring contract) or Hedo Turkoglu. The Bulls major need is an inside scorer. They're probably not going to be able to get one in the draft. They're not going to be able to sign one in FA. So I'd make that trade, and sign a SF in the draft with the Knicks pick at about 7-10 to replace Deng. -

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 03:58 AM) Yes. That is way too much with what Gasol is making. Substitute Duhon for Deng , Kryhapa and add the Knicks pick, imo. Duhon, Thomas, Brown, Kryhapa and the Knicks pick. Memphis is basically getting 1 impact player and a borderline top 10 pick, and 3 roster fillers for a top 5 impact big in the NBA today. Remember what the Heat had to give up for Shaq. A deal revolving around Caron Butler and Lamar Odom. To the Bulls equivalent, that's basically Deng and Thomas. I think the Bulls need for a good inside scorer is so big (because right now they're basically a jump shooting team), they just have to bite the bullet and get Gasol. An update; -

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) i can dream cant i..... FWIW, Hoopsworld.com thought a trade of Deng, Thomas and either P.J Brown or the Knicks pick could be the deal to get Gasol. -

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) I can live without Gordon, the Bulls should ask for Mike miller also. Miller and Gasol? -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 26, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) That's why my next dog will be named Stansworth, there ain't a damn thing embarrassing about yelling Stansworth across the neighborhood that's the a name to be proud of. Sounds like a Butler's name to me. How about Neanderthal.

That's quite a little raise if the Sox pick up that 2008 option, comnpared to what he's being paid in 2007. Maybe could be a situation like the Cliff Politte one where the Sox possibly try to re-work that contract in the future possibly.

Eduardo's back I see.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 03:40 AM) I really like our bench. And yes Kenny improved the pen this offseason. We have many hard throwers in there now with Sisco, Aardsma, Thorton and Jenks. Macdougal can also bring the heat as well. If we're only carrying 2 lefties as well in the pen, I'd like for Sisco to start down at Charltote, and Boone to be given that 2nd lefties spot.

Steve please post more often.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) I assume you have already seen that Tennessee denied that, so Phillips would be the #1 choice. I just wonder if they shouldn't go with a stopgap and then get one of the big names next year. That's the bad thing about this situation. If Parcells stayed on for 1 more season, then we could have our choice of the likes of Cowher, Fisher next season. And I'm not overly enamored with Phillips, unless he brought in a real good offensive co-ordinator. If only we had Sean Payton still. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) Petrino's contract was terrible considering he has proven nothing at the NFL level. Absolutely. Shows how desperate Arthur Blank is to win though (even though I think Jim Mora Jr. is a pretty good head coach).
-
Lovie certainly shouldn't settle for less than what the new Falcons head coach got, after what he's done over the past couple of seasons. Norv Turner scares me (after what he did in Oakland), but he's popular in Dallas, either way I could see the Cowboys making a run for him as their new HC or even the OC. Phillips is still the guy though I think. But if the Boys had permission to speak with Jeff Fisher, I think he would certainly be their 1st choice.
-
So if the Hawks end up with the #1 pick in the draft, who do you want to see them pick in that scenario?
-
On Pods, why have the Sox waited until now to finally get him the groin surgery? We're almost a month away from ST, surely if they had found something couldn't have they given him the surgery straight after the 2006 season finished? On Erstad, I'm not totally excited by this move. Is he going to play in LF to replace Pods, or replace Anderson in CF? I hope the latter scenario doesn't take place, but Erstad would really need to pick it up offensively to become a suitable enough leadoff hitter for this ballclub.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) Let's not jump ahead of ourselves. The reason why the Cowboys gave Parcells all the time in the world is because their backup plan, first choice for coach, was someone no one was looking at. It wasn't Lovie Smith. Now will Jerry Jones inquire about Lovie? Probably. He is a coach with deep Texas roots whose been successful so far as a head coach. The guy I heard a couple of weeks ago, the Cowboys would be looking at is Wade Phillips. Not Lovie. All this Lovie stuff is speculation by others. Other guys the Cowboys supposedly will look into are Jeff Fisher, Bob Stoops and Norv Turner. Pete Carroll might get a call, but I doubt it. Wade Phillips is the early frontrunner though. Agreed. The main thing I can't really see the Boys changing back to a 4-3 defense, after most of the talent guys they have on D, fit better on the 3-4 D, e.g Ware Honestly I would love to get Fisher or Cowher, but I think Phillips is most likely going to be the guy. Wouldn't hurt interviewing the likes of Rivera though (but I am annoyed Mike Tomlin is gone).
-
Wow, the Parcells decision totally took me by suprise. Everything that he's done over the past few weeks since the loss to Seattle tended to point to him coming back next season. Puts us behind the 8 ball now, with teams quickly filling up their head coaching spots. Wade Phillips from San Diego is probably the favorite. Not a sexy name, but Jones is apparently a fan, and he plays the 3-4 defense. 2 guys that I would love to have are Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher. Doubtful either of them will come though. A wildcard could maybe be Charlie Weis?

And we got ourselves a ballgame.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) In an 18 point hole, I may very well have gone for it on that 4th down. At least it's only a 2 score game for them now, which is doable.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) Why the hell would you trade your leading scorer for that package??? It makes no sense. Ben Gordon is your best scorer hands down, you dont trade him at this point. That's easy. A dominant big >>> a scoring combo guard in my mind. The Bulls are not going to be able to draft an Oden or a Noah in this year's draft, unless they get very lucky in the lottery. The Bulls could draft a SG to replace Gordon in the draft, and they'd have the C they desperately need. It also opens up more playing time for the likes of Thabo now. There's just not many good centers left in the game today. If you have the chance to get one, and a fairly young one still at that, I think you should definitely go for it. -
Colts so needed to get a TD in that situation. At least they finally started moving the football though, but they have to stop the Pats run.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 04:51 AM) No dice. I'd consider Noc and Gordon or giving up Tyrus Thomas and a package of some other guys but no way is Deng getting dealt. And ya, Warrick wouldn't be that bad, but he has a lot of holes in his game still. If the Bulls could do a say Nocioni, Gordon, Brown and Duhon for Gasol and Warrick, I think they should jump on that. Not including Deng would probably be a deal breaker though, unless they're real high on Nocioni. I just think if the Bulls could get that inside scorer, it could help put them over the top in the East (which is wide open this season).
