QUOTE(zygoat @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 07:11 AM) I dont see how putting him in Charlotte would help us at all, we've done enough to insure some quality starting pitching prospectts Well it wouldn't help in the short- term, but I don't see that as the main reason for acquiring him anyways. I'd rather sign a lefty in the FA market (don't know who else is left out there), to join Boone and Thornton as the 3 lefties in the pen. Long - term, I think Sisco will certainly have more value as a starter, especially if he can get his stuff back.
-
Only giving up Anderson and Broadway would maybe get me interested, but ATM I'll pass. At this stage, if we wanted to acquire someone for the pen, rather it'd be a lefty so it will allow for Sisco to start down at Charlotte.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) Alcohol Reminds me of a joke (probably heard it before); A couple are having a fight. The girl wants the guy to stop spending $50 a week on alcohol. But then the guy wants the girl to stop spending $80 a week on makeup. The girl says, "I have to spend that amount to look pretty for you". The guy says "I thought that was what the alcohol was for".

Yikes at Rex.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 08:02 AM) How fast have the Cowboys gone from looking like world-beaters to either losing to or barely eeking out a win over the Lions (if the Cowboys manage to come back)? Digusting to go from where we were a few weeks back against Tampa Bay to where we are now. Our pass defense is horrible, stupid mistakes on offense. Parcells and Owens could both be gone at this rate.

Probably Corona's for tonight I imagine.

QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) I could see Gomez going to the Yankees for Pavano. Would the Yankees be willing to help the Mets possibly fill a major need though? I'd think they'd look elsewhere 1st to see if there were any better offers.

QUOTE(beautox @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) link Interesting that. If the A's are asking for Pelfrey, Milledge and Gomez for Haren for example, if we asked for just Milledge and Pelfrey for either Buehrle, Garland or Vazquez, then maybe something could get done there after all. Either way the longer the Mets wait, the more desperate they'll be to acquire a veteran SP in my mind.

I think Weaver showed this season, he can only be successful in the right environment (the NL) and when he keeps the ball down in the zone, like he did for the Cardinals. We'd only offer him a 1 year contract, and I can't see him signing with us for that in this current marketplace. Personally I think he'll re-sign with the Cards. They need SP's badly.

Hoping one of Aucoin or Cullimore goes in that deal, but I'm thinking it's probably Vandy who's sat out for the past 3 games. I'm thinking with our offense though, we have a lot of guys who can play say 2nd/3rd line roles well, the Bourque's, Sharp's, LaPointe's, Arkiphov's etc. So what I'm trying to say, if we're going to trade for offense, they have to be players who can put up 50-60 points a season as a minimum, be 1st/2nd line type of players, because we've got enough role players on the offensive side.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) Also, I hear you can watch hockey games on yahoo....how do you do this? Is it free? Jason, download a program called TVU Player. Basically it has about 50 different channels, and about 2 or 3 hockey channels, so you can watch a few different games. The only bad thing about it for myself is that is uses up a lot of download limit (which we have down here unfortunately). QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) Aucoin and Cullimore are wastes of space. Aucoin -- the team captain -- barely plays 13 minutes tonight, while Cullimore, ON THE f***ING PK, tries to clear the puck through the center of the ice. By the end of the year, two of Vandermeer/Aucoin/Cullimore need to be gone, and Byfuglian and Barker need to be up here. Aucoin will be tough to move because of his salary, but he can sit in the press box every other game. Please, though, one of those three needs to be moved ASAP. It's sick watching 'em... slow as hell and not physical at all. Kudos to Wisniewski and Kuk for being our most consistent defenders this year. It shows in this new NHL which D-Men for us are going to be successful. It's the ones who can skate well and are quick around the ice. Aucoin and Cullimore aren't, and that's why they're struggling while the likes of Wisniewski, Kukkonen and Keith have thrived for us. Aucoin has what 2 years left after this one with $4M left on his deal. Offer him to a team that is really struggling with conceeding goals e.g Phoenix, Washington and Florida. But I'm not majorly disheartened by tonight's loss, because the Bruins have been playing very well lately.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) No offense, but we don't have anyone that could get that package. We've seen what we've gotten for our pitchers this offseason, and that package isn't even on the same planet as what we've gotten. ATM we're not out there to make a deal for the sake of making a deal. We're only going to make a deal if it suits us. Besides I don't think from Minaya's perspective trading those 2 for a Bartolo Colon or Rich Haren is a great idea when you consider their current injury problems. At least the Sox's SP's have a history of staying healthy.
-
Pelfrey and Milledge would be the minimum I'd ask for with one of our starters. And then like I said in another thread, that opens up the possibility of trading BA or Podsednik for more young pitching (although with Pods, good luck at getting something decent).

There's a few articles in the N.Y media today about us and the Mets, so I'll post them all in here; N.Y Daily News; N.Y Post; Newsday; N.Y Times;

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) You can't win pennants with pitchers who are prospects. Gotta have some Buehrles, Jose's, Freddies to go with the Charlies. Pay up, Jerry, or sell the team. Buehrle was a 38th round draft pick who came thru the Sox system. We traded prospects to acquire Garcia and Vazquez. B-Mac was one of our prospects who made a contribution to us winning the AL Central. St. Louis won a World Series this year with a rookie pitching in game 1. Detroit won the American League with some rookie pitchers on their books such as Verlander, Zumaya and Miner. So it can be done, and a lot of teams are finding out in this current market how important good young pitching is.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) I don't even know if I want to let you on the Eggy bandwagon... You jumped on after me anyways, so it's means nada.

QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Any chance this will be on tape somewhere? If so, I wonder how many people who normally wouldn't watch something like that would check it out. I think it's actually going to be shown on Iraqi Television, as proof to the Iraqi people that it actually happened. Good to see he's finally gets what's coming to him though.

Parenteau sounds like the major player in that deal for our side. Anyone actually know anything about him in terms of where he projects or is he just another Marty St. Pierre for example?

QUOTE(danman31 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Far from, but I was looking for a 2nd AAP and at this rate he's going to take any good ones available. You can have any of mine not named Danks or Egbert if that's any consolation.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) You're missing 1 little point there. Yes, Pelfrey/Humber would almost certainly be a downgrade from Buehrle next year. But then at the same time, think about what happens to the outfield when it goes from Podsednik/Anderson/Dye to Milledge/Anderson/Dye with Podsednik as the backup? Suddenly that OF hole that everyone is worried about is filled, along with more speed in the lineup and on the bench. There's also another way the Sox could go there. They could decide to trade Anderson to a team like Florida for some of their young SP spects (e.g Volsted) and move Milledge to CF (can't remember off the top of my head how he handles that position defensively). They keep Pods as the lead off hitter, Milledge hits down the bottom of it, and KW gets more of what he wants in terms of good young pitching. Can't really see the Sox keeping Podsednik as a backup at this stage.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) 1. On a sad note, I share a common disability with one Hank Hill. Let's just say I found this out when I was 5, as I was going to the bathroom and blood came out....yeah....the next two weeks were about as fun as pissing fire. In my best Hank Hill voice; "OCCUPIED!!! OCCUPIED!!!"

Right now KW should be on the phone to Omar Minaya, probably about Javier Vazquez I imagine. Pelfrey and Milledge should be the asking price, or Pelfrey, Humber and a fringe prospect. And yes I know if we make this trade it'll weaken our chances of winning the division in 2007. But who's to say if Pelfrey wasn't acquired, he wouldn't pitch well in our rotation? A guy like Jon Lester did pretty well for the Red Sox for example. Plus imagine a future rotation containing 3 of the top 10 LHP prospects in baseball today with Pelfrey, Danks and Gio. We'd control them for 6 seasons, and we would contend in this division for a long time.
