QUOTE(rowandrules83 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) espnews just showed a highlight of shaun livingston (LAC) dislocating his kneecap. it was possibly the most gruesome thing i've ever seen Ouch. Well once I saw someone do that, and then try to whack the kneecap back in place, now that's gruesome. He hasn't had the best year though Livingstone, and I think many people were predicting a breakout year for him. Just another example of coming out too early in the NBA. -
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) A little surprising we dealt with the Dead Things... but its a good move none the less. Although giving up a 3rd rounder and Kuk for Calder is awful pricey. Yeah I don't really like giving up a 3rd rounder, considering the current position we're in, but if Williams can get back to the scoring pace he was on last season, it's a good deal. Still I liked Kuk and am sad to see him go, but unfortunately he got caught up in a numbers game. I also thought that maybe we could have got another draft pick for Smoke, considering the price Tkachuk and Craig Rivet cost.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 07:23 AM) Three seasons? He took over in the offseason prior to the 2005-2006 campaign. He had his hand in some moves prior to then, but it wasn't official until then. That's not even two full seasons. His main job as of right now is to build through the farm system. He's done an excellent job of that. The team he inherited from Mike Smith was full of old vets and some top-end prospects who didn't pan out (Vorobiev, Babchuk, Yakubov). Please tell me how he was supposed to craft that into a playoff contender in just two seasons? Please do. Again, I'm not saying all of his moves have been perfect, but I have no idea how you can come to this conclusion: I'd love to see that list, if only to have something to giggle at for the remainder of the day. If you came into this season 'expecting' playoffs, your vision was diluted. We have two top six forwards and a young, developing defence whose best prospect (Barker) wasn't even up here from the beginning of the year. I'm sure you're thinking, "Well, whose job is it to acquire those top six forwards?" And my response is that Tallon more or less did his best in trying to acquire those guys. He offered bigger contracts to Forsberg and Modano. Last winter, I doubt the Hawks could've afforded another contract of a top six forward with the cap. The life of this franchise -- the life of Dale Tallon -- they both rest upon the shoulders of guys, several of which aren't even on the team or have been on the team a very short time. Guys like Havlat, Barker, Toews, Skille. Those guys will make or break the Hawks for the next decade. My mistake on the length of his tenure, I though it'd had been 3 years off the top of my head, but I was wrong. There have been teams in the NHL who struggled before the lockout and have turned into very good NHL teams with the benefits of a few moves. Tallon could have done this had he not wasted money on the likes of Barnaby, LaPointe etc., tough character guys who turned out to be nothing more than 4th liners with grit., which at the money they were getting wasn't a good decision. I did not "expect" playoffs coming into this season, but I expected the Hawks to at least be around the mark, and competiting for that final spot. Savard's done a commendable job with the talent he's been given I think, because there's basically no offensive threat on the ice besides Havlat and Ruutu, which I think is a blight on Tallon and the moves he's made. And yes we've been unfortunate with injuries, but I just think Tallon's time as a GM may be running out, unless he can make some moves this off-season which puts this team in the playoffs.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) You mean moves that happened over two years ago, or over a year ago in Salm's case? Yet it's right now that you've lost faith in Tallon? That offseason of Lapointe, Barnaby, and Cullimore wasn't good. From the length of the contract to the amount of money involved, it was an unneccessary 'splurging' of money just for the sake of spending money. They thought that getting the team more 'gritty' was bigger than improving the skill of the team. Then again, I don't think that's correct either... They offered bigger contracts to Modano and Forsberg but those two still signed elsewhere. Whatever the case was, they were bad contracts at the time they were signed and they're bad now. They're very tough to unload, too, because in the NHL, you can't eat salary in a trade. Getting back to the point, though, Tallon's main job is to build the farm system and not sacrifice it for a short-term gain. He's done that so far. I know I've been spouting this for a while, but I'm really looking forward to next year. Toews, Skille, and Barker on the roster from day one. (Hopefully) a healthy, resigned Handzus. Ruutu with a healthy summer and preseason. And hey, the Hawks might land a top six forward in free agency. He's had almost 3 seasons to make this team a playoff team, and we're no closer to that goal than when he first came into the job. The only move he's made that has really paid off was trading for Marty Havlat. If his main job is to build the farm system, maybe he should be the head of scouting then, while we have someone a little more capable pulling the strings at the NHL level. If you compared him to other NHL GM's across the league, I'd probably put him in the bottom 5. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) I was at the game again today, Smoke played well. After the game he sure sounded like a man who thought there was very good chance he was on his way out. Dale better make 2-3 moves by Tuesday, there are tons of team looking to add pieces. Smoke would get us the biggest return, too. If Craig Rivet can get you a 1st round pick, then surely Smoke is worth something similar. Gives me a little hope that Cully could maybe get dealt as well (although that extra year on his contract REALLY hurts).

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 06:04 AM) Talk about a big trade. Too bad the Hawks aren't gonna get off there ass and make some moves to set up next years squad. Yep, I've really lost faith in Tallon as a GM now, after some of the moves he's made. e.g signing LaPointe, trading for Salm.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 04:42 AM) What a crazy match. Arsenal played much better than Chelsea but the 2 that were put in the net by Drogba sealed it. Hey DBAH0, I haven't seen much West Ham this season. But what exactly happened to Tevez and Mascherano? They never settled, and I don't think the rest of the squad were too happy to have them around. Mascherano got sold to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, while Tevez will probably leave in the off-season when we are relegated. Thing is with Tevez, he's an attacking midfielder, not a striker, because he doesn't run into the box much, and he wants to be that linkman b/w the striker and the midfielder, so basically if you use him as a striker, you really only have 1 striker on the pitch.
-
Saw this on a FoxSports Team Report; Does he really make THAT much of an impact for this team when he's playing well do you think?
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) West Ham flat can't score. They got owned today. I'd what you'd call a relatively new Arsenal fan. This is the first time I've ever followed the premiere league and I'm a huge Henry fan. I watch Fox Soccer Channel more than anything right now (but I'm not a big fan of the spanish league games or the Italian league games...I prefer the EPL. Too much diving in the spanish league and I won't support the cheaters league, ie Italian league). I'm still learning a lot about how exactly the EPL works and the random tourney's like the FA Cup. I love the replay format though. Yeah we've scored 4 goals away from home all season which is just totally unacceptable. Losing Dean Ashton (our best striker) before the season with a broken ankle REALLY hurt us this season. Apparently he'll be back for his 1st game of the season against Spurs next week in the local derby though. Basically with the PL, 38 games, you play each team twice once at home, once away, bottom 3 teams get relegated, and 3 teams from the Coca Cola Championship get promoted. Henry's a HELL of a player, but I didn't like what he did to the Wigan goalie a week back when Fitz Hall scored an own goal, a bit disrespectful to say the least. And the pace in the Premier League is so much quicker than any other league, lots of end to end stuff.
-
You're an Arsenal fan Jason? Oh goody. Suppose it COULD be worse, but still it's pretty bad. In other news, West Ham SUCK. Getting Tevez and Macsherano somehow sent this team on a downward spiral that they never recovered from. Oh and Nigel Reo Coker is probably going to Arsenal next season as well.

Any chance of making the draft a day earlier?

Only days I can make it are; American Time Days; Monday Friday Saturday

KFC's probably the worst fast food "food" you can have (well at least down here). That stuff just looks disgusting as well.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 10:17 AM) If true I believe this would be a huge mistake... BLACKHAWKS SHOPPING SEABROOK? CHICAGO DAILY HERALD: Barry Rozner reports the Blackhawks "have been asking clubs what they might be able to offer for defenseman Brent Seabrook in hopes of snaring a No. 2 center." Spector's Note: Hat tip to Jason McLean and "Aaron". Again, the 'Hawks have previously denied Seabrook was available. Unless they doubt they can sign a number two centre this summer, however, it would probably take Seabrook to do it. We'll find out soon enough, I guess. Ugh, if Seabrook is traded, I don't have any confience at all in Dale Tallon. And for a #2 center? Uh Dale, that's Michal Handzus, and he's already on your roster.

What type of contract would you give Jermaine Dye. A 3 year deal? A 4 year deal? And what do you think is fair money wise, when he talks about market value? And yes I would go all out to sign Ichiro if he became a Free Agent, and when you think about it, how many big market teams will be after him? Yankees - Already have Damon as their leadoff man. Mets - Already have Reyes as their leadoff man. Red Sox - Probably would be the main competition, especially if Coco Crisp struggles again. Dodgers - Have Pierre and Furcal. Giants - A team I'd be wary of, especially with dumping Bonds's contract if he retires after 07. Angels - Just signed Matthews Jr. to a big contract, so probably not. Rangers - Probably would chase him as well I'd imagine. So we'd be in with a decent shot I'd say.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) No way. I drove down this weekend to Tucson and I live in Glendale. Not a whole lot going on right now down there. It was fun though. Ate at Curruso's downtown. Didn't run into any construction...but my girlfriend is from Tucson so knew some shortcuts. Sucked though because there was so much crap going on one there, (Tucson Rodeo and a ton of soccer and softball tourneys). It was a b**** finding a room. If it took you longer to drive from Sky Harbor to Glendale...you must have gone very much out of your way or got lost. No way that happens...unless you hit rush hour and drove completely in the "rush". Get your map out and avoid I-10 westbound during rush hour. And for you dudes hitting Surprise...I'll make my annual "Stay off of Bell Rd at all cost" rant. Dunlap/Olive west to Litchfield or so and go up. Any of you guys want some shortycuts (believe me...I'm the king of shorty cuts out here because I HATE traffic)..PM me. I remember my first day in Phoenix getting driven at about 2:30 p.m on a Friday Afternoon, and that I-10 was just not moving, so I would also definitely recommend avoiding that road. If you can get on the 101 Freeway (for when they play in Glendale in the future) perhaps via another route that could be a way to go (although I'm sure Wanne definitely has some speedier routes).

Unless the Gooch can actually produce in this spot during ST, I can't see this happening.

I always go into any season with an open frame of mind. You never know what you're going to get with anything. Look at the Tigers last season, did anyone expect them to win the American League? Hell no. There are questions with this team, but aren't there questions for every team? It's a matter of which team can negate their weaknesses and outweigh them with the positives. For us, that comes down to the pitching, and that's what's going to determine if we're a 85 win club, or a team that wins the division. That hasn't changed from the 1st day of the off-season until now. Have we fixed it? I don't know, we've brought in some new guys, but it depends on our 4 starters who have returned to pick it up in 07, from their performances in 06, simple as that. If they can't, we don't have much of a chance at all.
-
Ruseell in the bullpen makes sense for him long - term. He could be put there starting this season, considering the depth of starters we'll have in AA and AAA.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) so I'm definitely hooked on Tecmo Super Bowl. Is that possibly the greatest video game ever? http://www.everyvideogame.com Mike Tyson's Punch Out was pretty good back in the guy. So many good funny opponents, such as King Hippo I think his name was.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) Is it wrong to create a fake facebook profile to screw with a friend? Totally. But in other news, I love it when a hot chick starts at your work for the 1st time.

Seems like a bit of damage control from Kenny overall here. Realistically, I'd be stoked if we could re-sign 2 out of Buehrle, Dye and Iguchi. Most likely it'll be 1 (the Gooch), but I still have hope for either. Remember that if Dye leaves, it's not all bad. Jermaine Dye didn't have great value when he signed with us, it was a high risk high reward type of signing, and in our ballpark the way it favors the hitters, we can afford to make that type of signing again. As for Ichiro, I think it's a definite posibility. The Mariners would have to be a +.500 team for him to think about re-signing, and I don't see that happening. And a lot of the big market teams already have a lot of money invested in leadoff hitters already, which would help us majorly if we were to chase him. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 06:28 PM) Is KW losing his mind or something? We won the World Series in 2005, now he is getting rid of everyone it seems. He would have to be crazy to get rid of Iguchi and Dye. We might want to consider firing KW before he has us in last place. Of course we want to re-sign them. But if Dye got offered say $65M over 4 seasons, do you want to make that type of investment in a hitter into his 30's?

My how Benoit has fallen down the ladder since a couple of years ago.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) Yet another close loss for the Hawks. Rangers hang on to win 2-1. Lalime plays well again. Very much a Trent Yawney coached type of game, which is ironic when you think about it, since Tallon was trying to get away from that. Shows how much they need some more top 6 forwards besides Havlat though.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) First of all, a 7 footer in the dunk contest is stupid. I don't get that argument. What's the difference b/w Nate Robinson doing a dunk and Dwight Howard doing a dunk? Howard got screwed because of his height, and it's unfair that a little guy like Robinson gets so many high scores when the dunks aren't even that good. You're pretty much giving him extra points for just making the dunk in my mind. Also there should be a rule, for every dunk you miss, 10% gets taken off your score or something. Reward those who actually make the dunk for the 1st time.
