QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) You're nuts. Why thank you.

I would rather trade Fields for a Scott Linebrink type of reliever instead, someone who is a bit more affordable and younger but that's JMHO. Philly could be interested in a Ryan Sweeney. If they move Burrell or Abreu, they only have Victorino and Delucci as replacements. Otherwise Pat Gillick still wants good young pitching, so some SP prospects like Broadway.
-
Call me crazy, but I still see Jon Garland and Josh Fields ending up in San Diego for Scott Linebrink, Scott Cassidy and Cesar Carillo. A deal that makes sense for both teams.

Awake at 7, drive to work at 7:45. Play basketball at lunch, and then currently workin this arvo. Fun stuff.

I love the deal. Havlat can be a top 10 scorer in the league, if he can stay healthy and be set-up properly. That's the challenge for the Hawks now, to get that #1 center to help set him up, otherwise it'll have to be Ruutu, and that's a lot of pressure to put on Tuomo at this stage of his career. I would love to trade for Scott Gomez of New Jersey. Won't come cheaply though. But the most important thing with this deal is that we signed Havlat to an extension, and he won't be here for just the 1 season.

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread

Zidane's headbutt was hilarious, and so was the penalty kick he took (talk about arrogance). But France should never had gotten a penalty in the 1st place. -
Interesting article here from the Sun - Times;

Yikes this doesn't sound good;

McCullough ain't starting tonight. Some guy named Rocco is. Brooks ended up conceeding 3ER in 5IP with 3BB's and 2K's. Hernandez homered for his 4th of the year. Harrell left after 5IP with 6BB's and 4K's with 2ER. Malone gave up 2ER in 5.2IP with 4BB's and 7K's. West came in and has conceeded 4ER in 1.1IP though. Bristol lost in 10 5-3. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...elirok_brirok_1

This team will have a better regular season record than last year'

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) I really don't know, why do you think it will get better? I think you missed my point or at least you misread what i have said. I think the sox right now are not playing well. I think there pitching is terrible. i think the schedule is not kind to us in the near future.I think the tigers schedule is easy. I think if we fall back 6 games to the tigers after that series, then we will be contending for the wild card not the division. it is my opinion only. I do think our bats will cool down. i have no idea if our pitching will be as good as last year which it will need to be because the division is better. Again my opinion. Put that comment in lights. Nobody ever called me reasonable. LOL Well I think the ASB is coming up at a real good time for us. Coop needs to sit down with every starter and show them the film etc of when they were pitching well, because each starter at various points this season has certainly done that. SSI71 came up with a real good list a couple of days back of what each starter was doing wrong and it was certainly fixable by the sounds of it. Also, a lot of Detroit's Starting Pitchers aren't 2nd half pitchers. Kenny Rogers isn't, Jeremy Bonderman wasn't last season, and Nate Robertson certainly hasn't, and I don't expect Zach Miner to continue pitching well for the rest of the season while he's filling in for Maroth. So they're due for a letdown sometime in the future as well. -
Maybe Ozzie should be so he can actually get the chance to throw out of the bullpen once in a while.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) I am not excited at all. No reason to relax. I am not jumping off a bridge, nor am I a bandwagon fan. I do think 6 games is alot. Hell 2 games seems to be alot and I do think the sox are not playing well. It just shows more against better teams. They need to pitch better. Our starters really do suck right now. 5 ERA's are not going to win you a division. Do you really expect that our starting pitching can actually get worse from here on in? -

An important thing to note here, who here expects Detroit to keep up their torrid 1st half pace into the 2nd half of the season? I ask this because some people here are saying we are due for a slump and therefore we'll be going for a wild card spot and not the AL Central Title. I don't expect that to be the case at all. -
So when should I expect to see Danny Wright out on the mound for us?

QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) I am starting to agree with Flash Tizzle that the Sox need to develop, draft, acquire some young quality arms. I look/glance around the league and a good number of teams have very good young pitching and they have quality arms with pretty electric stuff. Not the soft tosser safe picks with no talent to hang with the top teams that we constantly end up with. You don't think Brandon McCarthy and Neal Cotts are 2 examples of this?

QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) Yeah alot of people felt bad for Girardi but he stood his ground down in south FL, glad to see the marlins doing good things. The best part about the Olivo/Marlin conection is hes cheap($700,000) kinda young hes only 27 i know for a catcher thats maso menos but still, i think he will be their C for a while. Girardi's been mentioned a couple of times in the New York papers the last couple of days as the replacement for Torre if Steinbrenner decided to can him. Wonder if Girardi would actually leave though.
-
I suppose it will ultimately depend on whether Bill Stoneman decides to try and acquire an impact bat for that middle of the lineup. Would have to give up some great prospects to do so though.
-
Yeah so the Dodgers obviously won't pickup his $12M option. Question for you Sox fans. If we didn't have Jenks and Gagne was available in FA which he will be, what type of contract would you offer him, and how much do you think he's going to get?
-
Mike Lowell's rebounded this season with splits of .301/.355/.503 for Boston. I don't think you can look past Dan Uggla in terms of a Rule V pick. Would almost be the best 2nd baseman in baseball with his numbers right at the minute. Eric Byrnes has proven to be a good FA pickup for the D-Backs despite his bad defense with a .886 OPS. Probably trade - bait at the deadline I would imagine. Jamey Carroll came from nowhere and has a .829 OPS at 2B for the Rockies. Has a .397 OBP with a 36/27 K/BB ratio. I was almost going to mention Rowand but he's really slipped offensively. Suddenly having BA in CF doesn't look so bad now does it.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) Former sox prospect Miguel Olivo has got a cannon(31SB/18CS/.367CS%), hes handling the best young pitching staff(4.22CERA and thats with Brian Moehler(6.84ERA)....ewww) and hes tearing the cover off the ball AVG .291 | HR 9 | RBI 34 | OBP .321 | SLG .492, which is exactly why we will not get him, but its good to see Olivo doing well with the Marlins Joe Girardi has really done a FANTASTIC job with Miggy Olivo. Olivo is on what his 4th major league organization right now, and there was always a question about his ability to call a game and being able to actually hit a curveball and not K. Really glad to see that he eventually started to play at a level that which his talent is there for all to see.

Soccer Tips: Any advice for a goalkeeper?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:38 AM) Always remember you can use your hands. Which brings me to my second point. Don't do crack. Yes because you don't want to become exactly like Mark Bosnich now........ (only DePloderer and credepopsup will get that joke). -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) Freddy's era is actually higher during the day this year. Another interesting stat is that his era is almost a whole run lower at home this year. Javier Vazquez has basically turned into a version of Freddy Garcia. He has a 2.33 ERA in 4 day games pitched so far this season, and a 4.89 ERA in away games. Freddy's main problem this season has been giving up more of the longball (19 in 17GS compared to 26 in 33GS last season), and a higher BAA of .280. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) This AllStar break is actually coming at a good time for the White Sox. Personally I sense most of these guys really need a break. All in all their record is quite good but save for that recent 10 of 11 or whatever it was, to me they are still not hitting their optimum stride. And it all starts with starting pitching. It comes down to that. Either they will carry it to the playoffs and further, or they will flounder. Yeah it really is. Coop really needs to sit down with them during this time, and really show them what they need to do to improve and become more consistent because each starter at various points of this 1st half of the season have shown that they can dominate.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Most teams back-up catchers are not too good. Widger isn't good, but for a back-up he's fine. I would hope the Sox wouldn't waste prospects on trading for a back-up. Stewart is going to be the guy next year. Maybe even in September. Well obviously you don't want to overpay for one, and considering Stewart will be ready next year like you said, it probably wouldn't be highly beneficial for KW to make a move, although we would still like to see an upgrade over Widger. Unfortunately we'll just have to hope Widger can improve that CERA of his.
