  1. Figure it's another good time to bump this thread considering our current issues; Adam Greenberg got released by the Cubs today. Was .269/.386/.407 in AA last season, before he got plunked in the head in the majors. Could be a guy the Sox could look at for the minors, and if he improves a possible call - up later on. He's only 25 still, and he knows how to take a walk. Jose Cruz Jr. is an interesting player to look at. He can handle CF defensively, and the Dodgers are playing a lot of young guys in the OF at the moment. Cruz only has 5 AB's in the past 4 games. He's only hitting .232, but has an OBP of .360. If you could get him cheaply....... Nelson Cruz is .290/.371/.565 for AAA for the Brewers. They've got him and Corey Hart at the moment, ready for the majors but nowhere to play them. They need pitching help in the worse way. Bullpen wise, here are some updates on some players previously mentioned; Ryan Wagner has a 6.08 ERA in AAA in 23.2IP. His value would be at an all time low now. I don't know what's happened to Brian Bruney, I haven't heard a thing since he was designated to assignment by the D-Backs. Todd Wellmeyer was designated for assignment by the Marlins yesterday. Didn't pitch too well for them at all and had problems walking guys. And so did Frankly German who had a 3.00 ERA before he got hurt last month. Could be worth looking at either of those guys.
  2. A lot of thought has been on the state of our pen currently and the bottom half of our order in this current losing streak that we're in. But last night, we shouldn't take anything anyway from JG's performance against a very good hitting team in the Rangers last night. By all reports in last night's game thread (I didn't see the game personally), Jon didn't have his best stuff on the mound, and he left a couple of pitches hanging over the plate, which shows he definitely still has a lot to work on. But only giving up 3ER (would have been 2 if not for Nelson) in 6.2IP is a very good step in the right direction in terms of Jon's season. Last night's start actually increased his home ERA to 3.08 in 4 games. If only Jon was actually able to pitch more at home, but he needs to start pitching a lot better on the road as well. But let's hope Jon can carry on last night's outing into his next start. Because if he can start pitching like he did last night for the rest of the season in terms of run's given up, it'll be a BIG boost to this team down the stretch.
  3. He could always produce with the bat, but my issue with him is this. He's not good enough defensively to play in the OF, which means he's never going to get enough AB's here as the 25th man. Better off to have an OF in his place, which would also mean Ozuna would play more in the IF.
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) what about one prospect and McCarthy. B-Mac >>>>>>>> Rowand
  5. Interesting on Marrero since Randar though Clemson had signed him. Hopefully BA is right here.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Lowell with a 2 out single. Harris PR. Youkilis up, 2 outs. HOLY s***!! YOUKILIS 2 run HOMER!!!! But please Detroit, keep Todd Jones as your closer for as long as possible.
  7. Another hit or 2, and it might be the end of Loe's night quite soon.
  8. At least Loe is up to 79 pitches now after 4. We'll be getting into that Texas bullpen soon.
  9. Gload, it's time you actually did something.
  10. This is our chance right here. With Gload and Uribe behind him though, Crede needs to come through here.
  11. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) He has escaped now, but you know as well as everyone here the chances of Garland holding the Rangers at 2 runs is practically impossible. Garland is best early in games. As we've seen in recent starts, several times through the lineup players eventually catch onto him. So far this season, from pitch count 16-30 Jon has a 9.64 ERA, and then from 31-45 a 4.00 ERA. Once he reaches 76 pitches though, the ERA goes right back up there though. So hopefully he can settle down for the next couple of innings, because this season pitch count wise, this is where he's had success.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Huge out for Garland there. Blalock could have put us in a lot of trouble. Jon's battling right now, and he's going to give up a few big hits. But if he can get the important outs like right there, he can still keep us in this ballgame.
  13. FWIW, Jered Weaver has pitched 13 shutout innings since he's been called up. He has 8K's against the Tribe tonight after 6.
  14. Ok Jon needs to knuckle down from here on in.
  15. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 10:49 AM) So whats Castro up to with the Rangers? He's only pitched a few innings. He's on a minor league rehab assignment IIRC.
  16. Looking at Loe's splits, he's had a 2.79 ERA in 5 away games this season so far, and he's only given up 7 HR's for the season. This may be a tougher matchup than we may have anticipated.
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Get ready to be changing your sig. Gload may have quite a few at bats this weekend. Well it's about time he started getting used I suppose.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Tex only has 6 HRs? Yowzas. Yep he's been a fantasy killer for those who took him 4th or 5th.
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 02:35 AM) I can't believe it's already June. ^^^. I started my part - time job over 6 months ago, and it feels like I haven't been there very long at all. Which also means for me I have my 1st semester exams coming up in 2 weeks. Yippee. :banghead
  20. Anyone would think Jon Garland is the worst pitcher in baseball, and we're on a 10 game losing streak by some of the posts. At some point this season, we were going to hit a flat spot. We can't win all 162 games. We can't win every series. Let's just remember that this is a very good team. We don't have a .623 winning percentage for nothing. Last season we were a good team in away games. This year it's home games, so that's something Ozzie probably needs to address to his group. But it's still early, and we've got a wildcard spot still. FWIW I think Jon will come out with a good outing tomorrow. He's got a 2.75 ERA at home, and yeah you can argue it was against bad teams, but he still came out and performed well. He's kept the ball in the park a lot more at home, which shows he's probably using his sinker more. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Haha. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't notice that I typed, "I hope Garland gives up 7 or more runs." Stupid me, rooting against my team. I should've said something like, "I fully expect Garland to give up 7 or more runs." Saying something like that would just indicate that I don't have faith in Garland to keep a good HR-hitting team in the park at home, rather than showing how much I root against Garland and the White Sox. Care to say something positive about this team for once?
  21. Yep, hopefully he can get up to about .250 by the end of the season. The problem is for him, if he's ever going to be successful at the major league level, he'll need to start taking a lot of walks like an Adam Dunn type of hitter.
  22. Jack Egbert Pos: SP DoB: 05/12/83 Ht: 6'3" Wt: 205 Bats: L Throws: R Jack was drafted by the Sox in the 13th round (389th overall) in the 2004 draft. He pitched for Great Falls in rookie ball in 2004, going 4-1 with a 3.37 ERA and a 52/33 K/BB ratio. I couldn't find any stats for him for the 2005 season, so he may have been injured, I'll have to find out there. This season Jack started off for the W-S Hogs. So far he has a 4-3 record with a 2.77 ERA and a 28/15 K/BB ratio, so he's pretty damn good. Only 2 HR's given up in 68.1IP. He appeared on my radar tonight because he put up a good line going 6.2IP with 2ER, 1 BB and 8K's. Looks like another pitcher starting to move up in our system. A lot of people talk about the big 3 in B-Ham with Broadway, Lumsden and Liotta, but the Hogs have a pretty nice rotation going in Harrell, Russell and Egbert themselves.
  23. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) Pablo Ozuna has been working out in center. Yep, and that would worry the hell out of a lot of people here, if you remember the Kansas City fiasco.
  24. Darren Blakely - .173/.244/.264 in Charlotte. My god that's actually worse than BA's line. Sweeney would be the only option, but you've got to remember, this is his 1st season in AAA and although he's hitting well (.300/.357/.393), he only has 140 AB's down at that level, and only 7 have gone for extra bases. So in other words, my suggestion would be trade Ross Gload and a fringe prospect for a Corey Hart or Ryan Church, then you wouldn't even have to demote BA, as one of those guys would be used more than Gload, and you let Ryan Sweeney develop at his own pace. Brian Anderson had a full season in AAA and produced fairly well you have to remember.
