QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) OR the indian influence on southeast asia, as assigned by my 80 year old professor. Uhhh they like uranium, have an economy that is massively increasing over the past couple of years, but povity per capita is still a huge problem. Someone from my work is actually going to India and Bangladesh at the start of December for 12 weeks, to do some relief work in some villages or something like that. Would be interesting, if you could handle the living conditions and aspects such as the food.

Very pleased for Haegar tonight. He hasn't the best ST, and hopefully an outing like this does wonders for his confidence. 4 and a 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. That's what I like to see. Tad with 2 hits as well, hopefully he's getting back into his groove a little again. Sweeney 2 from 2 and Uribe with 3 hits. Some very good things to come out of tonight's game.

QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 06:33 AM) writing a paper on southeast Asia blows. Possible topics include; The State of South-East Asian Toilets (believe me I know). Why Motorbike riders wear their jackets inside out while driving. Why South-East Asian Taxi Drivers are lunatics. Why most South-East Asian Amusement Parks are crappy.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) The Bulls are actually in good shape on the wing with Nocioni (he's a 3 on a real roster) and Deng. The Bulls REALLY need a big man and a 2 guard. I'm not sure Gay can play the 2. Yeah that would be the issue if Gay could play the 2 guard spot. At this stage not many people think he can, but he's got good athleticism, but it would ultimately depend on what Paxson and Skiles think of him. I still think if you can get Pryzbilla, that would be an excellent fit you at center though. He may be slow, but the dude is big, can block around 3 shots a game, and provide you with about 12 points a game when he's motivated.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:34 AM) This is only going to get worse next season with him having no shot at ever seeing the field. I suppose he has to do something this off-season. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) Why would people dog a rookie for hitting .270?? Exactly, especially when he'll probably provide above average defense on top of it. I'd be stoked if Anderson could hit .270 for the season.

Saw this the other day; Now if you're the Bulls, if you could get Pryzibilla, would you then go for someone like Rudy Gay at the top of the draft instead of Aldridge?

Gonna try and catch the game at work. Let's start off 2006 the way we finished of 2005!!!!

QUOTE(R.J. @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) If we can go out and get Wagner without having to spare one of our last great prospects (Sweeney and... uh... hmm...) it'd be a great move. Keep him in AAA and he'll be there if Thornton or Logan can't hack it. I just have a feeling that no matter how much they've soured on him the Reds will be looking for a little more than what we have (he IS a 2003 first round pick), and as a result we might start looking at over-the-hill options. Considering how bad the Reds pitching has been over the past few seasons as well, they should probably hang onto Wagner, and hope he can re-find his 2003 form, and become the dominant closer they thought they were getting when they made him the 14th pick. But stranger things have happened.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) BA...It's gonna come down to you and Booney for ROY. Go win it. (Liri-who?) Kenji Johima? (I know I didn't spell that right). Good luck to him actually being able to hit for power at Safeco as a right handed hitter though. But at least now I think more people can say they're more confident in BA being able to hold down the fort in CF then they were at the start of ST.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Now Ryan Wagner is the perfect guy to acquire. He's still young (23), has a lot of talent and potential, still has options left so he could be stashed at Charlotte, and he might come cheap because the Reds seem to be down on him. Acquire him, let him pitch at Charlotte, and he could make a great midseason callup if he succeeds at AAA. He also could be a great addition for next season -- McCarthy will probably be in our rotation, Hermanson will probably be retiring, and Politte will be a free agent. I don't know much at all about Wagner but it looks like he barely pitched in the minors. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/W/ryan-wagner.shtml Did the Reds screw up with him? Probably. Wagner's your typical "rushed before he's ready" prospect (even though he did burst onto the scene in 2003). The Reds mis-handled him big time, which is why you now see teams like the Red Sox handle Craig Hansen a bit more carefully (hence why he ain't in the majors yet). From what I've heard, he's got great stuff, but a lack of control (hence the 56BB's in 119IP). Sounds like a perfect Mr. Fixit for one Don Cooper. Here's his scouting report;

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Right now, the bullpen looks a bit shaky and almost everyone realizes it. I don't see how I am overreacting in this case. But you have to admit, things look better than they did a week ago. Thornton's thrown something like 5 scoreless innings in a row (albeit it is Spring Training, and results from that should be taken with a grain of salt). And every other team is going to have major problems finding 6 or 7 guys in their pen who can all contribute well to their team's success. Like in Cinci, can you trust that Danny Graves is back to where he was a few seasons ago, considering how bad he's been after that? Is Francisco Liriano going to handle being the only lefty in the Twins pen etc. And KW knows that the more guys he can find for this pen the better, which is why he's probably still working the phones and trying to find a guy or 2, whether it's from the major league pen, or a guy to stash in AAA for a while.

QUOTE(R.J. @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 06:23 AM) I've always had a man crush on Wagner, but he probably doesnt fit with us right now. I'd suspect we'd rather sign a cheap guy than go after a potentially solid bullpen arm that costs a decent prospect in the process. What would be a cheap prospect to offer for Wags, Rogowski? Wagner just needs to get out of Cincinatti for his sake. And I think that you could probably get him or Shackleford right now, since the Reds seem to have a few bullpen guys ahead in the depth chart. As for what the Reds would want, Rogo would be a good idea considering they have the almoghty Scott Hatteberg at 1B currently. Don't know if that would be enough for Wayne Krvisky though.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) True, Marte could find his old form but he has to get over his injury troubles first. But I was using 2005 Marte as a comparison, not 2002-2004 Marte. I'm not annointing Logan anything yet but all he has to do is throw strikes. Last season, Marte's WHIP was astronomical (1.72). Just keep throwing good strikes, Boonie. Still tell me if Boone Logan was to give up a 3.77 ERA in 2006 like Marte did in 2005, would you take that right now? Logan may give up less walks, but he could have a higher .BAA. Marte had a .223 .BAA over the last 3 seasons, which was an underrated part of his pitching (although because he was walking 1 guy every 2 games last season). And that could be dangerous for Logan, especially if he doesn't have the propensity to be a groundball pitcher.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Dam is done, he's f'd up in the head. I wouldn't count him out just yet, if he's comfortable in his surroundings and is confident, he's a top 5 setup man in the MLB, I really believe that. And Pittsburgh's a perfect place for him, no pressure on him to perform at an elite level with so many other good late inning guys. And guys like Salomon Torres have come into their own over there.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) I have hope. Afterall, can the kid really be any worse than Marte who absolutely refused to throw strikes most of the time? So far, Logan is making batters earn their way on base. Just don't issue free passes a la Marte and he should be fine. I'd wait until Logan actually shows he can perform in the majors for a couple of months, before I'd anoint him better than Marte. For all we know, Marte could get back to his best form in Pittsburgh, since he won't be facing up to Ozzie everyday.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) He's going to be Eric Byrnes for us this year. That was not a good route to that ball. I don't think he'll be that bad. I suppose we'll have to wait and see how he does over a full season, but I've heard so many conflicting reports from the guys who have watched him in the minors who so he's very good defensively, to the experts who say he'll struggle to replace Rowand defensively. -
Brian Shackleford from the Reds got demoted to AAA today. He had a 2.43 ERA last season in about 29 games IIRC. I suggested him a while back when we were looking for lefties. If you could get him cheaply, could be a good idea possibly. More likely a righty such as Karsay would be a guy we'd go after though.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Even all that talent Orlando has, you know, that's not what scares me the most about them. Know what scares me the most? Thanks to their good friend Isiah Thomas...coming up here in like 2 years, they have 2 very large expiring contracts. Which means they will have some of the largest cap room in history. During the year that Lebron, Melo, Bosh, Wade, Hinrich all can try the unrestricted FA market. Lebron and Wade are a pipedream. Melo would probably also be one, unless Stan Korenke decides he doesn't want to pay another max contract. I'd like to target someone like Rashard Lewis though. We'll need a SF when Hill retires, so Turk can go back to the bench, and Lewis would be a pretty good fit with his outside shooting. As for the draft, Brandon Roy makes perfect sense for us. Tonight, showed that we've got 2 excellent bench guards in Dooling and Arroyo. Roy would replace Stevenson in the lineup, otherwise another move could be to package Stevenson and our top pick to move higher in the draft to grab Gay or Morrison. But tonight showed, if we can keep stringing together wins, the playoffs are still a possibility. We've got a tough schedule coming up though, and Philly has 2 straight games against the Knicks. Oh, and Darko Milicic, re-sign him now. 12 points, 8 boards, 4 blocks. He'll lead the league in blocks in a season one day, I truly believe that. Give him a low post game, with that outside shooting of his, and look out. Jameer Nelson had a damn nice game tonight as well. He was really a massive loss for us mid-season when he got that foot injury, and at times this season he's played at an all - star level. Plus he's proved, he deserves to be starting.
