  1. Michaels goes from one of the best hitting parks in baseball, and he's never been a regular in his career in the major leagues so far. I don't know if you can expect him to put up those type of numbers, I know the Tribe will be happy if he can do so.
  2. From http://blog.theboys.com/ Any suprises there?
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Eh, I still think that Nelson will have a better season than Thornton. He's the main guy I want to replace with a better reliever. Logan at least seems to throw consistent strikes. Thornton is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. A contending team shouldn't have Matt Thornton in its bullpen. The Matt Thornton of old sucks. We get it. It's been said a million times, and everyone knows it by now. If KW passes on Nelson, it's obviously because they think he's got nothing left in the tank, and they think Thornton they can fix, and become a productive member of this bullpen, then that's the way they're gonna go. And if you look at likes of Neal Cotts, who didn't start out well, and has now become probably the best member of this bullpen, that should give you at least a little bit of hope. Looking at Nelson from last season, he only pitched 1IP or more 5 times out of 22 after July. Can the Sox afford to carry another specialist who can't pitch multiple innings, if they're going to already carry Logan and / or Lopez?
  4. Big mistake for Detroit if they put Zumaya in the pen, and don't let him start down in AAA. But they obviously want to win now, which is why Verlander got the 5th starter's job. If he can give em around a 4.00 ERA, their rotation suddenly looks not too bad at all. I'm just not convinced that their offense is as "good" as the experts say it is.
  5. If we can win our next two games on the road against Chicago and Minny, we may actually be able to make this an interesting race. We're only 5.5 games back of Philly (can't see them making it at this rate), and 4 games behind the Bulls. Tuesday Night's game at the United Center is especially huge. Darko and Dwight will need to dominate inside though.
  6. Anyone watching the Amazing Race this season?
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) One may wonder why I'm on right now. Some asshole started a fire or pulled an alarm or something.....I've been asleep for an hour so far tonite, and I got to spend the last 35 minutes with half the dorm. f***in A. At least you don't have class in the morning.
  8. You take Kessel, absolutely no doubt. The Hawks have scored the least points in the NHL this season. Do they even have any bonafide #1 line forwards right now? I can't see any, Bell would be excellent on an #2 line for most teams, but like Arny was he's forced to play on the 1st line. We've got Seabrook, Keith, Aucoin, Vandermeer, and Barker, and quite a few guys who should be fighting it out to get that #6 D spot for the next few years. Johnson may be a damn good prospect, but like Tony said, this needs a goal scorer in the worst way possible. Of course, knowing the Hawks we'll end up with the 3rd or 4th pick, and miss out on both of em.
  9. Anyone else think that Yawney's a bit too much on the defensive side as a coach in the new NHL? I suppose with the players he has, he kind of has to be that way though.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Michael Sweetney has been double teamed tonight more than once by the Hornets. The Hornets deserve to lose this game and miss the playoffs due to that single fact alone. The Hornets may have the worst team in the NBA in the 2nd half besides the Knicks. They've really slumped big time, and the honeymoon may be over for the West / Paul combo as other teams figure them out.
  11. QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) So, I asked one of my guy friends how long you should let someone squirm after you catch them in a major lie before you put them out of their misery. He looked at me like I'm crazy. Guess that's a girl thing. Unless you just want to have loads of fun at their misfortune.
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) Because they signed Dougie Mient-alphabet. He has quite the future ahead of him!!! The Royals are retarded. They keep signing washed-up bums instead of playing and adding younger players. There's no doubt Justin Huber should be starting for them at 1B this season. But Allan Baird's trying to save his own ass, and not think about the long - term.
  13. The more I see of Darko Milicic, the more I'm impresed. I wonder if the Bulls should have made more of an effort to trade for him (give up their 2nd 1st rounder in this year's draft), although I don't know if Dumars would have traded with a division rival, especially if he wasn't getting cap space in return. Trevor Ariza had a good game as well. If he could develop a jump shot, he could be an good defensive starting SF in the mold of Shane Battier.
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) Choi does have some big holes in his swing, just like Borchard, but I still think it's a poor comparison as well. By the way, why in the HELL didn't the Reds claim Choi?!? Scott Hatteberg? WTF? Yeah, Wayne Krivsky's just got enormous man love for Scott Hatteberg right now. Choi would have been handy as a platoon partner at least for them. Even a team like Florida who needs bats in the worst possible way, could have picked him up. Glad a team like Cleveland didn't get him though. But Choi won't be the only first baseman we'll see moving teams soon. The Tiggies most likely aren't going to keep Carlos Pena, and IIRC, he's out of options.
  15. Would I like having Cruz? Sure, why not. Am I giving up Liotta, Sweeney, Broadway or Fields for him? Hell no. Maybe the A's would like someone like Aaron Cunningham, OF prospect with a sweet stroke. Doubt Beane would settle for that though. Let's wait and see who we can nab at the end of ST, before we give up anyone of value I say.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 25, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) I don't have much of a problem with Logan and/or Lopez. Both would only be used as LOOGY's and face a few lefties per outing and they actually appear to throw strikes. But is Ozzie actually going to use them as LOOGY's, or even much at all? Of course if we actually signed Mike Myers, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all probably. But the Thornton thing is almost like the Neal Cotts situation all over again. He's not going to put up good numbers straight away, and I think people realize that. But hopefully, once they key in on what he's doing wrong and what he needs to work on, he can turn it around, like Cotts did (who's our best reliever right now).
  17. Thornton was never going to come in here and set the world on fire straightaway. Are there better relief options out there? Yeah, no doubt. But if KW and Don Cooper think they can fix this guy, I'm going to believe them, considering their track record for pitchers over the past 12 months. And considering Hermy's going to start on the DL, we need all the pitchers we can get right now. That's why the likes of Thornton, Javier Lopez and Boone Logan are going to be on this 25 man roster, and it shows the lack of good left handed relievers in baseball today.
  18. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) They didn't have a #2 wr to go to last year. Well they had Keary Colbert, but he had the sophomore slump. But Keyshawn's a perfect #2 WR for em. Big physical guy, will catch over the middle, and an excellent run blocker for a WR. Just don't forget to give him the DAMN ball.
  19. Keeping Scotty legs healthy would have to be right up there on Herm Schneider's priority list. We nit-pick his obvious flaws such as his weak arm, bad reads in the outfield, and striking out a ton with runners in scoring position, but when he's up and running and producing and causing havoc on the bases, you have to look past those things.
  20. Excellent write up there Alex. It's a real boom or bust situation with our pen, and last season showed how important having a good one is. Unfortunately, other teams are starting to take notice of that, hence us missing out on the likes of Myers over the off-season.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) I think we're going to like this guy. Especially if can start hitting the ball like he did back in 2003. He was really highly rated back then after a .317/.359/.489 season. It's almost like the Juan Uribe trade all over again. The Sox get a guy who should fit in well in the clubhouse, and hopefully produce like he's done in the past.
  22. More from Kenny (no not that Kenny);
  23. From Ken Rosenthal; Uhh but ya said Fassero twice there Ken.
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) You really need to interview me. Got any plans this weekend? You talk too fast anyways. Remember that FutureSox recap.
  25. Another lefty though, but he's not on the 40 man. Had a 4.07 ERA in AAA last season. And yet another lefty. Hasn't had much success since 2002 though. If we want a long reliever, this is the guy I want. Meant to be worse than Thornton though. Could be a little interesting perhaps.
