QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) Where can YOU work 6 days a week? Hey man, the Aussie Job Industry loves me.
-
Did the lightbulb actually just switch on for Tyson all of a sudden. It's gonna be a good race in the East. If the Bucks and Pacers aren't careful, they'll be dragged back into it as well. There's only 4 and a half games b/w the Bucks who are in 5th, and the Celtics who are in 11th.

How bout workin 6 days a week.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) I loved the signing and am only astounded that the SOX, THE WHITE SOX, THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX did it! Ahh sorry, I thought you meant astounded as in it wasn't a good idea. But I think we're all pretty happy that they did go through with it.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Yah. And if he thought Marte could have been a definite star in the league, he would have gotten a stopgap. Obviously both Schuerholz and Epstein thought Marte was expendable for good, but not great players. There is a reason for that. Especially considering that Schuerholz has no probablem with letting young guys play. Maybe they think Renteria could definitely get back to his NL numbers that he put up with St. Louis, and he would be better then any stopgap they could get. And he'll be making about 5 or 6M less a season then Furcal is IIRC.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Thome will out-produce Thomas (which I only buy if Thomas gets hurt). These are Thomas's seasons after he's been hurt from a major injury the season before hand; 2002 - .252/.361/.472 2005 - .219/.315/.590 I don't know if Thomas would be able to hit higher then .250 if he stayed here, and that's JMHO. Thome is 2 years younger, and has put up a +.900 OPS in every season before 2005 since 1994. Putting Thomas's and Everett's OPS's together it equals .825. I think it would be a shock to most people if Thome couldn't beat this in 2006. There's a lot more favorable factors in Thome's favor coming back here.

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Chandler is making b****es look stupid. 6 points and 14 boards at the moment. And no-one else on the Bulls is deciding to rebound tonight either.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) Huh? He hit .251 with 23 HR and 87 RBI (490 AB). Would you prefer a 3/5 hitter with a .300 with 5 HR 40 RBI? Everett also hit .273 in the ALDS, .250 in the ALCA and .444 in the WS, 0 HR 3 RBI tot. Straight up he is certainly not as good as a healthy Jim Thome but he's not chopped liver either. I still feel the 2005 mix of CF/DH was stronger than the 2006 mix projects to be when injury risk is accounted for. In the 2nd half of 2005, Everett had splits of .228/.305/.386. Taking that into consideration, I don't think he could come close to producing what he did in 2005 for 2006. I believe Anderson will definitely produce what Rowand did in 2006, remember Rowand only had 13 HR's in 2005. Thome should outproduce Everett if he remains healthy. Remember if we kept Frank for the DH and kept Rowand, I'd say there's a much greater risk with Frank trying to come back from his injury, when he's never had a good season coming back from one before. Not to mention, we'd be much weaker against RHP without Thome as well.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) Hawks waive Yakubov.... http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/article.jsp...127_171138_6660 Wow talk about a knee jerk reaction, before you know it, they'll be shipping out Vorobiev for a 9th rounder. And to think Yak had what a 2 or 3 point game a few games ago as well.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Who knows, I was astounded the Sox went 5 years, no strings, with Kong. I get astounded a lot lately. Because of they didn't, he'd be with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim right now. And that's a major hole in your lineup that you suddenly have to fill. And of course if you say, well we'll just sign Frank Thomas then, who's going to play 1B? If it's Thome, it increases the risk of him getting injured once again.
-
Don't forget the main reason we acquired Jim Thome in the 1st place was to get a big LH power bat in the middle of this lineup. Now remember we just weren't very good hitting against RHP at all last season. I think you have to remember through all of this as well, Thome's more likely to come back and produce from his type of injury, then Thomas will be. And remember, Thomas coming back from a major injury has never really put up a good season the year after.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Some people in this board tend to vilify anyone who hasn't gone to every single game their entire adult life. Like me.

15 f***in Turnover's in 1 half in Basketball. That's brutal Orlando, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) So Chris Andersen won't be able to wow us again in the slam dunk contest... Yeah out for 2 years, can't say anyone saw that coming.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Grossman's QB Rating : 68.8 Orton's QB Rating : 59.7 I'll take the guy who doesnt get hurt every f***in year. Cos you definitely know that's going to happen every year right?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) I've been endorsing Nene for a while now. If he's healthy, he's the guy we should go for. Yeah I'd love him in Orlando as well, so we could get Battie / Howard and Nene in the C/PF spots with Vazquez still a possibility to come over. I think a team like Atlanta could really offer him a lot of money though, even though he's coming off knee surgery.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Who is the best free agent center available? Ben Wallace? Whomever it is, the Bulls need him. Ben's pretty much a lock to re-sign with the Pistons for the max. And really if you were him, why would you want to leave that team the way they're playing at the moment. After that, it's really Nene, Mohammed, Cato, Battie and Pryzibilla.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Garnett's gonna be pissed. I said a couple of days ago they had to make a major move to shake this team up because they were going nowhere after 2 big losses. But now they've mortgaged their future even more, and I'm not convinced that they're much better off at all. It makes me glad though that Kevin McHale isn't the GM of the team I go for.

All these arguments about the worth of prospects, is really quite an interesting discussion in its own. I think most people know my stance on it, is that I value my prospects higher then most, and that's because I feel if you get good prospects who can contribute for you well at the major league level, it offers you so much in payroll flexibility, plus you'll control the player for at least 6 seasons. A question was out forward earlier in this thread would you rather win for this season, or contend for the next 7. And 9 out of 10 people are probably going to take option 1. But I still feel, even if we traded Contreras for Heilman and Milledge, this team is still good enough to win the World Series. We'll still have 6 good starters (Heilman I think can flourish as a starter eventually), and we have more payroll room to make a move at mid-season. Brandon McCarthy was nothing more than a prospect at this exact point 1 year ago. Basically he was at the same stage at what Lastings Milledge is at right now, just finished at AA (albeit Milledge spent more time there). Now B-Mac is a huge part of this team's future, and will play a very important role on this team in 2006. Now I'm not advocating trading Contreras, for the sake of trading Contreras just because he's in the last year of his deal. And KW is obviously going to take the same path here. But if Omar Minaya goes up to you, and offers you a fantastic deal, that can still allow you to win now, and improve your chances of competiting in the future, he's seriously got to consider it. But let's not forget either, Jon Garland was in this very situation a while back, being in a lots of rumors. This may be the start of the process where Jose decides, this is where I want to be long - term, and I'll actually decide to take a little less to stay here.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) Sorry, the article didn't state that the Celtics were getting back a 1st rounder so I thought you were wrong. But I just heard a radio update that they are indeed getting a 1st rounder. So I agree with you. Boston could really completely rebuild right now. They could trade Pierce, and really just go with West, Allen / Green, Wally, Jefferson and Perkins. I don't know if Doc Rivers is the right coach if they're going to go that way though. Ainge is questionable to say the least as a GM (e.g Scalabrine for 5 years/15M yuck), but in the draft he's done a fairly solid job.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) The Celtics are giving up two future second-rounders... http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...rticleid=123127 2nd rounders really mean jack though. I mean sure you may get a bench player or 2, but the Celtics have shown they can get some contributers in the draft over the past few years like Delonte West, and they got Gerald Green as well.

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Marcus banks is a very good defender though believe his contract expires after this season. He will help them backing up. Blount will likely finish out this year and get spun off again ( they are looking for big men). Even if they end up keeping him he is superior to olowokandi in every way outside of rebounding. Better defender, more athletic, good stamina, much better shooter... nice touch. Szczerbiak is one dimensional ( all offense no defense) and has a crazy contract. Ricky davis is the best player is also the best player in the deal. The timberwolves finally dumped the two players have they been trying to for years. That alone makes this a good trade and should now make garnett happier. This deal is definitely in the timberwolves favor. Who's going to want Blount when he's got 4 years left on his deal, and when you can sign centers like Mohammed or Cato without giving up anyone? Banks will be stuck behind Jaric and Hudson. Can't see him staying long - term. I think you are overrating Blount too much. Last season he was terrible. Wally may play no defense, but the T-Wolves are terrible offensively right now as it is. I think Davis is overrated by some, as this is what his 4th team he's been on now. Here are the Player Efficiency Ratings for Wally vs Davis; Suposedly Davis is a slasher, yet he only goes to the FT line 3.9 times in 41.7 mins as well. And also, the Celtics got a 1st round pick as well.
