Good ol Mark Girlie. Let's just hope his arm stays healthy through the season because he's pitched a lot of innings over the past few seasons.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) My goodness, I didn't think about that. Darko, Odom, Howard up front....yikes that could be the best frontcourt in the game in a couple years. And I'm thinking at the moment even if we got this caproom for the off-seasons of 06 and 07, is it a guarantee that we'd get to sign a player as good as Lamar Odom? Can the Magic afford to take that risk again after the Grant Hill fiasco? Odom would be ideal as a SF for us. He'd stretch the floor, and he's quick enough to guard SF's around the league. It would send Hedo back to the bench, which is the best role for him as well. But Odom could also play PF, which would be handy if Darko didn't pan out, so Dwight could just move to center. Where it would leave Grant Hill I don't know. He would probably have to move to SG maybe even some PG, if he wasn't traded (but I think there'll still be interest in him since his contract finishes at the end of next season).

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) The only person who can hold Kobe under 30 ppg is Steve Francis. I would love to see that go down. Go from totally unselfish Odom to Steve, I'm sure Kobe wouldn't mind, right? And don't forget 2 seasons ago, Lamar Odom was pretty damn good in Miami. If he could return to that form for Orlando, it would be a big win for us. But I've heard Phil Jackson thinks Francis can do well in the Triangle Offense, hence the interest in him. I'm looking forward to seeing what Arroyo can do as well. He's pretty much the only pass first point guard we have on the roster. Jameer Nelson I can stand, because he doesn't turn the ball over as much, plus I think he's a better defender then Francis. I'm also thinking, we're gonna draft J.J Redick now, since we need an outside shooting SG. If we get about the 5th/6th pick, that's probably the way we're gonna go.

More Francis news (I honestly can't believe this many teams would be interested in him); EDIT: I also heard Stephen A Smith on TNT said Francis would only report to Denver if they put a gun to his head. Oh goody. But if we got Odom, suddenly we'd have the biggest frontcourt in the NBA. SF - Odom 6'10 PF - Dwight 6'11 C - Darko - 7'1 Can you just imagine the shot blocking oppurtunities (thinking of you here Hammer).

I almost bought a 1990 Civic for my first car, but went with the 89 Prelude instead. Honda make good cars.

It's quite amazing at this point 1 year ago, a lot of White Sox fans had mixed feelings on Don Cooper. Some thought he wasn't the man to take this pitching staff to the next level and bring out the best in the likes of Jose Contreras. And now how times have changed. One of the priorities for this season should be getting Don Cooper locked up to a extension (since IIRC, he's only under contract for this season only).

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 02:13 AM) Its a good thought, but I think KW has no intention of stepping down anytime in the near future, especially with his kids being older and leaving for college now anyway. I think Dave Wilder will be long gone by the time Kenny is ready to move upstairs. Yeah Wilder had a few interviews for GM openings around the league this off-season. I'd say he'd probably get something there in the next 1 to 2 years/

Soxy, doesn't look like you invited B-Mac to your house for dinner over the off-season. And damn the weather looks nice in Tucson at the moment. I'd love to be back in Arizona right now.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) What's with former Sox turned Cub relievers bashing the Sox as of late? Before you know it, it'll be any Cub reliever joining in.

I won $120 in a 6 man game of Poker last night, in what was probably the flukiest win in my life. I should have been knocked out at least twice, but pulled out the card I needed on the river. Needless to say, the Scotsman wasn't happy when I took his chips, and he let me know about it.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) Scalabrine played LAST night. But picking on him has been done so many times it's beyond cliche. He does play better defense than I thought though. Ahh my bad, I was reading an article on FoxSports about it. But seriously giving him 5 years was just a terrible decision, and he doesn't deserve the minutes he's getting at the moment (albeit Boston are short on bigs).

Randy Witmann anyone?
-
Brian Scalabrine played 34 minutes tonight and had 0 rebounds. Certainly worth that 5 year/15M contract.

I don't think Byrd can continue the form he showed with the Angels last season but that's just me. But Shapiro's going with a little short-term pain for some long - term gain. They lost Rhodes as well who was pretty good out of the pen for em. -
Good to hear the Sox think they can change some things with him mechanically. Kind of like when Cotts was struggling at the start of 2005 (good times wasn't it). A simple adjustment at looking at the catcher's mitt, and bingo, he becomes one of the best lefty set-up men in baseball. Not saying it's going to happen to Tucker, but hopefully they can hit on one of these lefties.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) Ya, I gotcha. I just hate Jamal sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. He's basically another Steve Francis who won't turn the ball over as much, but he'll hog the ball and take shot after shot. With the Magic building around Dwight, they don't need that.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) Really? Wow. Cato was solid when he was in Houston. You can never have enough bigs when you're going up against Shaq. I think Cato would flourish in a back-up role in Detroit. If he stayed healthy, I'd probably agree with you. That was only the opinion of one article though, so it may not be the case.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) It's a good deal for both teams. You've already stated what it does for the Magic. For Detroit, they get an expiring k that will not only help them resign Ben Wallace, but put them in better position to extend Billups before he becomes a free agent in 07. Two, Cato is a very effective player in the right situation. He's a good defender and shotblocker and would really be useful if the Pistons and Heat meet up again. I'll have to wait and see what the final restrictions will be on the draft pick before really commenting on it. I read an article that said the Pistons were going to wave Cato if they acquired him. Cato can play ok, but he needs to be motivated to do so, and he's so injury prone. I'm sure Spiff would tell you he's nothing but a bust at the money he's earning.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) Yes, yes you would. The thing is, back when Penny was in Orlando, he led a player revolt that got Brian Hill fired in the 1st place. Even though he's got a huge expiring contract, I assure you Hill wants no part of Penny on this team right now (even though he wouldn't play for Orlando obviously).
-
Otis Smith, if you have seriously pulled this off, maybe the incompetence of previous Magic GM's before your time hasn't come your way. Darko and Dwight. Can you say best frontcourt in the East if Darko develops and becomes a monster down low? He'll get the playing time he deserves, and a guy like Battie won't mind backing him up at all. Arroyo I don't think will get a lot of playing time for us. Even if Francis is traded, if we acquire Jamal Crawford (which I'm not a fan of doing, I'd rather get Penny and David Lee), Arroyo would be stuck behind Nelson, Stevenson, Crawford and Dooling. He could be on traded in another deal, to the Sonics perhaps (who desperately need a backup PG).
-
C'mon Isiah, you know you want to; So in essence this is what happens; Orlando gets Milicic, Arroyo, Nene, Crawford and Ariza, and all they have to give up is Cato, Francis and a 1st round pick. Surely that can't be possible? So in the future we could have a frontcourt of Dwight, Darko, Nene and Fran Vazquez. Wow. Where do I sign?
