  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) That's a very fair question, answer to me is, it depends. If Anderson is healthy and dominating at AA or AAA, yes let's get it going. But if he is clearly not ready, no way. By all accounts he is not ready yet. He's yet to demonstrate he has the stamina for a full season, nor has he stayed healthy. His numbers have been quite good but not overwhelming by any stretch. I saw him play a lot in spring training and will see him again a lot this year. My eye is not a scouts eye but I've said all along he looks like a 2006 arrival to me. Tough to say at this point if it's starting 2006 or September. Make no mistake, I like Anderson quite a bit. And Sweeney, Brandon McCarthy to name two others. I do not want to see these guys rushed though. Sox have rushed pitchers in the past and it's been a bad scene. In some cases their talent was overhyped but in other cases guys got rushed. Let's say the Sox have a sucessful season though, and Podsednik, Rowand, Dye and Everett put up good numbers for the number of AB's they have. My question is this. Brian Anderson has a great year, and finishes the season as a 40 man call up, after putting up good numbers for the Knights. Do you keep him on the bench for the Sox, or send him back down to Charlotte, and wait until the contract of someone like Dye comes off the books so he can take over every - day? (I'm probably asking something that's too far ahead in the future thoughm but let's see where it goes).
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) That's what I try to keep preaching. Look at Rowand. He's just entering his prime and we'll get him for 3 years at a relatively cheap price. He might command a huge contract next time around, but he's ours for a while. That, my friends, is good "GM-ing". And that's what GM's who don't work for a big budget team, have to try and do with their good players. I'd much rather have Aaron Rowand for the next 3 seasons at age what is he about 27 IIRC, than someone like Anderson or Sweeney who will be younger and not put up the same production in that period of time most likely.
  3. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) WEll if this team fails again, would you rather have Thomas's and Everetts playing or ANderson? Who's saying this team is going to fail? If the team doesn't perform up to its capabilities, it's more than likely trades will be made, and guys like Anderson could be given a shot, but I don't forsee that occuring.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) Good post, the other factor to consider is service time and how fast these guys get to free agency. It might be cheap to have a young guy sit on the bench but it makes little sense for that players development. In addition, they get to free agency faster and that ends up costing more money, sooner. Let these young players demonstrate they're ready by dominating at AAA or AA. Even that may be misleading, Diaz was lights out at Charlotte but got his lights punched out in the majors. Exactly. Look at Zack Greinke and Jeremy Bonderman. By the time they're about 24, 25, they'll be free to start negotiating with other teams once they get past arbitration. It worries me when people want Anderson up here by the end of the season or McCarthy in our rotation, if there's an open spot. To me, these guys need to both start down at Birmingham, and stay there for the majority of 2005, with Anderson probably moving up to the Knights earlier than B-Mac. There's no need to rush these guys, considering there's not an open spot for them in the everyday lineup or rotation. The longer these guys stay in the minors, the more they get to work against opposition they're comfortable against, so they won't be in over their head, like say Willie Mo Pena was when the Cincinatti Reds rushed him up.
  5. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) Same sense it makes to pay 4 million for a bench player. Like it or not, Everett is going to be the full time DH unless anything changes from here until opening day which is unlikely. What is stupid though, is having the likes of Brian Anderson sitting on the bench everyday, just because he's "cheap". It doesn't help in the short - term, unless you're the owner saving money, and it definitely doesn't help in the long - term unless you want another Joe Borchard.
  6. If only Bogut played for a better team and in a better conference.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) anyone watching the 2 hours of Andrew Bogut fellating on ESPN? No sadly, thanks to my stupid Aussie Cable Provider.
  8. Let's hope both Honel and Malone can get through a whole season injury free and put up some good numbers, it would definitely help our pitching depth in the minors, although we've got a number of good younger arms down at Winston Salem and Kanny.
  9. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) Steve Francis is a must-have fantasy player who you don't want on your actual team, similar to Stephon Marbury. These guys are not winners. I think that the Magic are a good team. I went as far as to say that they're better than the Lakers back in mid-December, IIRC (not so sure about that right now on Jan 31, however). Howard hasn't been as effective as he was through early December, which isn't that big of a surprise. He had 10 or more rebounds in each of his first 15 games. Man Of Steel, you should mention Dwight Howard first and foremost when discussing the key players on the Magic, and not some flashy turnover-prone point guard with a shoot first mentality. These turnover numbers are disgusting: Steve Francis Profile This ain't a Brooklyn playground or whatever...this is professional basketball. Teams win, not individuals. Of course, Grant Hill and Doug Christie are excellent role players, and you can't really front on the center combo of Cato/Battie. Together, they're effective. They'll get waxed in the playoffs, but they're a good team...despite Mr. Francis. Dwight Howard is really going to be a monster in 2 years. And Hammer's right, for this team to move forward in the next few years, Steve Francis will probably have be to be moved. He could be traded for a pass first point guard like Mike Bibby, or if Jameer Nelson can prove he can handle the load, they could try to trade Francis for a fairly good center. Cato has been pretty good this season, when he's been healthy, and that hasn't been too often.
  10. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) SO you would pinch run one slow guy for another? That makes sense, I don't what the issue is here, we are a cap strapped team yet, its okay to have a 4 million Dollar back-up DH??? How are Sweeney/anderson ever going to get playing time on the big league club? How past 2006 other than BMac is there going to be a pitching staff? Let the Scrubs have Carla, we don't need him on this team...Why is that so hard for you people to figure out? Right now if Everett was traded to the Cubs, for lets say some prospects, who would you sign out there on the free agent market for $4 million, and would they be better than what Everett could provide for this ballclub if he stayed?
  11. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Maybe KW wants Jose V back I would friggin :puke His sub .300 OBP would fit perfectly into our lineup ya know.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Happy Belated man. I hope you had a good one! ^^ that. Hope u had a great 1 Bones!
  13. QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Are you sure they are both about Maruice because the top one says Julius. That's my bad, I got it from a NFL site I frequently read, but it should say Maurice so I'll change it (Julius was referring to Julius Jones' 40 time last year).
  14. About Nakamura, if the Sox did indeed bid to negotiate with him (and that's if, which is very unlikely), here's how much he'll settle to play for;
  15. Another catcher making a move possibly;
  16. It's been nice having ya round for a year knight.
  17. I'm getting conflicting reports here;
  18. Thank you Captain Obvious, Ken Rosenthal. Not really a rumor, but hey its news;
  19. Even if the Twinkies lose Santana, they had a real good draft last season picking up some arms like Glen Perkins who could be ready by the time Santana leaves for the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox etc. Not saying they'll put up Johan like numbers, but they've got some quality young arms in their system.

    QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) You should do what i did...I got to see 8 movies for free...I joined the Blockbuster online rental service 2 week free trial...rented 6 new release movies before the trial ended and when you join you get two coupons a month for free in-store rentals..total of 8 movies I got for free..Garden State was one of them.. Plus the gift card I got for Christman The last 15 movie I rented were free.. Garden State is still out here at the movies, so it won't be released at Blockbuster for quite a while yet, hence why I'm downloading it. And trust me, Blockbuster ain't nowhere as good down here as it is back up in the States.

    QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Just watched Garden State. What an awesome movie. I highly recommend it. I finally found a working download of it, although after 19 hours it's only done 23.5%. Looks like my computer's going to be on for the next few days. :banghead
  23. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 07:03 AM) And if Francis went down for the Magic they would be in a lot of trouble too. Stating the obvious It could actually be a blessing in disguise. I think in 2 years, Francis will be a very good candidate to be traded, for this team to take the next step, and I think they may just do that if Jameer Nelson can prove he can handle the load of being a starting PG.
  24. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Is Eric Hinske any better than Crediocre? He makes a lot more money as of now and has produuced marginally better. I think Eric will wind up in Cinci sooner or later. That's unlikely to happen considering they have Sean Casey at 1st, and they signed Joe Randa to play 3rd base.
