IF you are sick of work, the office may be to blame. Research shows the workplace could be a significant source of illness, with dodgy canteens, a lack of handwashing and "tight buildings" contributing. The Food Safety Information Council says more than 30 per cent of Australian men do not wash their hands after going to the toilet, compared with 8 per cent of women. Of those who wash their hands, 80 per cent of women and 93 per cent of men do not wash them properly. Food safety council statistics show that one in four cases of food poisoning can be traced to work sources, including canteens. And experts say open-plan offices and tight use of building space mean that what's produced in the building, stays in the building exposing workers to a range of nasty bugs. In the handwashing stakes Australians fare better than the British, with half of men and a quarter of women in the UK failing to wash their hands after using the toilet. Foodlink in the UK says bacteria such as e-coli can exist in washrooms for up to eight days, longer than the average stomach upset. And simply flushing the loo distributes bacteria into the air and into workers' lungs, similar to the effect of a sneeze. Curtin University public health expert Dr Vijay Jayasena said many bugs picked up in toilets did not make people sick immediately but could take weeks or longer to affect their health. An Australian survey had shown bathroom door handles were a haven for dangerous bugs, some of which could survive for months. "People who wash their hands after using the toilet still have a very high chance of contamination from the door handle," he said. "This would not be the case if everyone washed their hands." The chance of contamination in the workplace was high because of time pressures. "Everyone is in a hurry," he said. "But it is a serious issue that needs to be taken much more seriously than it is."

Found this on Suzuki, Q: Mike from NH asks: Hi, Allen. Cal State Fullerton catcher Kurt Suzuki seems to have come out of nowhere this year. Is this guy for real? Why did he sit the bench the past two years? And in what round do you think the A's, Blue Jays or Red Sox will draft him this year? Thanks - and keep up the great work! A: Allan Simpson: Suzuki has become one of the hot names in the draft this year. He's a solid defender and has really stepped it up with the bat, especially the last 3-4 weeks in Big West play. He's come a long way in all areas after being a walk-on as a freshman. He has a very good chance of being a sandwich pick, which would make him ripe for the A's who have two sandwich picks. And I've heard he's one of Billy Beane's favorite players. The Red Sox don't pick til 65, so they'll have little chance of getting him.

Forget about AJ, what about Marquis Grissom. I knew he's very old, but his bat is still pretty good and i'm pretty sure he's hittin ova .300, if we could get him cheap, it could be worth a shot, dependin on what happens with A-Row and Timo.

A US airline is offering free tickets to passengers who are nice to one another. Help another passenger carry a bag, stay upbeat during a difficult situation or assist a flight attendant and you could earn one of 5000 round-trip tickets on Delta's low-fare carrier Song. Song hopes the program will build customer loyalty and generate more revenue.

I voted Portland, long term I think they'll stick around there. U could move the Expos into the AL West, and the Pirates into the NL East, and u would hav 5 teams for each division. Portland and Seattle could start up a nice lil rivalry.

Anderson with another great game and a homer, a call up must be in the works soon.

From the Denver Post, Nothing brewing White Sox general manager Kenny Williams wants to change the dynamic of his team's lineup, adding a left-handed power hitter. He dangled high-priced outfielder Carlos Lee in spring training, and baseball officials said outfielder Aaron Rowand is available. Williams executed a similar move last season, adding Carl Everett and Robbie Alomar. Based on his contract and statistics, Rockies outfielder Jeromy Burnitz would make sense. The Rockies, however, aren't interested in moving their center fielder, who is quietly having an all-star season in Preston Wilson's absence.

From Rotoworld, thought it was quite interestin, no Schmidt though. Giants' GM Brian Sabean appears close to throwing in the towel on the 2004 season. ''I'm not much for patience,'' Sabean said Thursday. ''Last year we won 100 games. This year, we've won 17. I might have to eat some of our roster. Let some guys go with (big) contracts. Reshape things. Give some kids a chance.'' Don't expect any big moves before June, but some players to look for in San Francisco include outfielder Todd Linden, shortstop Cody Ransom, and pitchers Merkin Valdez, David Aardsma, and Matt Cain. J.T. Snow, Marquis Grissom, Edgardo Alfonzo, Brett Tomko, A.J. Pierzynski, Neifi Perez, Michael Tucker, Kirk Rueter, Ray Durham and other disappointing players could be dealt or released depending on how much Sabean shakes things up.

Is that Ronaldo's wife?
